as I was watching your Spiderman shirt during your wallet sponsor, I just came up with an amazing idea where you press a button and the wallet shoots out a a card projectile at your target.
There’s an interview of Steve Downs talking about how he had no idea how popular this game was when he initially did the voice lines and then almost forgot until he went to visit a buddy who’s kids and friends were playing it. He said something like, “Oh hey, I think I voiced a character for this game.” The kids were like “Yeah yeah whatever old guy. If you did then what lines do you remember?” He said “I need a weapon.” in Chief’s voice and the next thing he knew every kid in the entire neighborhood was there freaking out about Chief standing in their living room
I love that Jen's first instinct is "Where's my weapon? Can I punch this guy? I need a weapon!". Before ever even asking "what is the crouch, or how do I jump?" it's just "how can I immediately inflict violence on my surrounding area." lol
I’ve been a Halo fan all my life and it is by far my favorite piece of media ever. I am so glad you are also a Halo fan, and so glad you are starting this series, THANK YOU!
It's always such an interesting thing, to watch a non-gamer try a game for the first time. It's so painful to watch that I have to treat it more like a study on non-gamers rather than just being able to enjoy the sharing the story of the game with another person. By the end of this game, Jen will probably remember three things about the whole experience: the feeling of the movement and how much she doesn't like it and can't get the hang of it, "the part where the monsters showed up" halfway through the game, and perhaps a few select small moments that might stick in her mind. The rest of the whole time seems to be spent distracted by trying to play better. All this to say: I don't blame her one bit. She's definitely learning, and it's hard to learn the entire literacy of video games when you haven't already grown up with them. Personally, Halo is both the best choice and the worst choice for introducing a new gamer to first-person games. The best, because it's easy and has simple rules, which allow the player freedom and experimentation to learn. The worst, because the gameplay is all that a new player would focus on. The story will probably be completely forgotten, which is a shame, since Halo's story is one of my favorites in all of gaming.
Couldn't have said it better myself. It's so difficult watching somebody play a game for the first time that i've spent countless hours playing. I just wish I could be sitting next to that person to show them what to do and how to do it. At this point I usually just skip the gameplay to watch reactions to cutscenes.
I literally just went through H1 and H2 with a non gamer, and whilst they enjoyed the story, it was so painful with gameplay…like I get they’re learning and everything, but sometimes they forget stuff they learned 10 seconds ago with prompts on the screen telling them what to do
@@ThePilleroflightning Holden is absolutely right about the gaming literacy thing. It becomes second nature when you've been playing video games every day for 10 to 20 years.
Holy crap!!!, I just introduced my girlfriend to Halo the other day!!! We've made it to Halo 2. Hang in there Jen!!! You'll get better the more you play! Eventually you'll not even think about the controls.
I personally never get tired of anything Halo and I always love seeing people play through the series for the first time because it reminds me of what it was like when I first started playing! I think the Halo games in general are great CO-OP games and have a lot of replayability imo.
I LOVE Halo, it’s my favorite game series of all time. I’m glad you’re introducing her to it, but I couldn’t watch this full gameplay. Jen’s camera movements made me nauseous 😂
maybe its the first person perspective or just practice but Jen seems to be way better at aiming in this than in the last of us. Great vid I'd love to see more
Jen’s look of focus is peak gamer energy. Everyone starts off with the controller feeling awful. Over time, it will become natural. The killer instinct is already there!
I started the first halo for the first time a long time ago and I got so hooked I played all of the campaigns including halo wars 1 and 2 in a month 😂. Actually amazing franchise
I read recently that the reason Keyes gives you an empty pistol and then you suddenly have ammo as soon as you leave the Bridge is because in play testing if they gave you a fully loaded gun the players would immediately start shooting the crew on the bridge. Instead they wait until you leave the room and then immediately spawn enemies to shoot at and it solved the problem.
I cannot WAIT for you guys to play halo 2 campaign, the cinematography, the voice actors, the dialog it has to be one of the best story mode games I've ever played because on how good it is, it's like watching a movie every time I play, and with the remastered graphics for the cut scenes is the cherry on top, can't wait for Jen to react to halo 2!!!!!!
I haven't watched someone who isn't very familiar with games in a long time. The amount of focus on Jen's face is hilarious and totally understandable.
Jens faces remind me of when I was a kid in the 90s and my parents would laugh at my faces when playing video games. -- Seeing Jen pull out that pistol instead of reloading for the first time was nice.
I CANNOT express how excited I am for this journey. Halo was my first video at 6 and I have grown up with the series being my favorite. I love seeing new people react and Jen reacting is A1. Can’t wait for more
I met one of my closest friends through a random SWAT online multi-player match on Halo:reach. We're still friends to this day and play MCC on the weekends.
Holy moly Holden…my favorite series ever…I never expected this kind of content from you two! You watched every movie in existence and now you lead into gaming with this?!! Genius move sir!!
I just lost a good friend who I was playing Halo with. We only played Reach, CE, and just finished 2. I can't wait to see you two play it and hopefully the whole series! I'll live through y'alls vids ❤
I preface this with the fact that this is the first gaming video I've watched of Jen. I think from watching her gameplay and remembering trying to get other people into games, that the three best things she could learn are the following. 1. What the color of the reticle means. This will help her aim and tracking as well as know when to shoot and stop shooting, which will help with bullet and inventory management later. 2. ALWAYS move and look around. She stops to shoot, common mistake that won't hurt her for now. But even when moving without enemies, she doesn't look around much, so she's hurting her ability to create a map of where she's gone and where she should be. Also common, but easily fixable in coop, where you could have her keep up with where you are and try to shoot you as you move. 3. Reload everything and take stock of Hud/inventory management immediately after a fight. Easiest way to lose in gaming is forgetting to reload before the next fight, or not noticing your shield/health/mana/bullets are low. I think you're doing a great job overall though, and definitely your patience and her desire to gain more skills will help more than anything I mentioned.
love to see you and jen playing some video game classics! One thing I would recommend is when you guys get to the mission "343 guilty spark" that you guys play it on original graphics just because I feel as the original graphics does a better job at visually showing a more proper atmosphere for that happens in that mission. Keep up the great work!
Not even gonna lie, it's been so long since I've watched this channel, and this made me jump when I saw this video pop up. Edit: Fallout is a better video game series than The Last Of Us.
Oh I don't do well on stairs... proceeds to aim perfectly and take out 5 guys while on the stairs. Your not as bad as you think you are Jen! You might not be comfortable yet, but your a natural gamer.
This was a great start. I can’t wait til Jen gets to using grenades and blows Holden up, I mean the Covenant up. Jens concentration is of pure determination and will power, kinda like John Wick, lol. Once thru this series and she enjoyed it, Gears of War could be the next leap. Can’t wait to see you both in action again.
This is really cool! Excited to see the difference between this first level, and the final one. Gaming literacy is very much a thing, like you said, and it's a pleasure to watch Holden teach and watch Jen learn. Good job both!
I would kill to have Holden’s sweet talking dialogue spoken by actual Spartans…. *Mid combat* “Ok sweetie, follow me over here, you’re doing really good sweetie”, (Jen as a Spartan) “Oh, I don’t do so good with stairs” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The best one in my opinion of all the Halo's. I remember when this released was a kid, my friend Mike, who passed away in 2009. Got myself and few friends into halo. And we would meet up at a friends house when online wasnt a thing yet and we used LAN network switch which allowed us to connect multiple Xbox's to and all play on Separate TV's. Then Online really began to Take off for consoles with Halo 2 and Xbox Live even though PS2 had Socom first which was a online game. But the memories my friends and i shared playing Halo pre-online days are days we cherish the most.
I think Halo Combat Evolved is one of those games where even after haven't played since the original I could pick up the controller and it would feel like I never stopped playing, love this game! I also cant wait for Jen to meet the flood lol
Honestly this is such a good move and I've been wanting this for a while. I think Jen struggled so much with The Last of Us because with all things considered TLOU is quite an advanced game for someone who didn't grow up playing games. I remember commenting saying that Jen should go through all the classics that we grew up on and I recommended COD Zombies like world at war etc. These are very basic games that allow Jen to learn and get used to camera movement and aiming. Very pleased to see Halo and I hope other classic games are on their way! A Dead Space and a Dark Souls playthrough would be elite although I would prefer Jen be at a stage where she comfortably knows general game controls!
I am here for it, Halo is one of the few games I'll hold close to my favorites. Happy to see Jen get into it - such a good series, story wise. Personally - I'm also into the later games, despite their story discrepancies.
Oh wow can't wait to see this series! Halo is still one of my favorite gaming franchises. It's really a shame you didn't get a chance to play Halo 3 in its heyday. Was a really fun time playing transferring over to Halo 3 with the same friends you made online in Halo 2. I don't blame Jen at feeling lost. Especially on this level. The Halo 1 levels can seem like a bit of a maze for even some who've beaten this game before. They get easier to navigate in Halo 2 and 3 which I hope you guys eventually play together.
Jen, for the most part, did good. I know she is not used to it. But considering this is the very first game I've ever played as a child, this is exciting.
Love this as a video type! Try and ensure Jen is leading, getting teleported to you going ahead can be jarring or confusing to new players. She was still fighting when Holden rushed the exit. Speaking as a younger brother who always tried his best to keep up with his older brother on games.
Halo has been my favorite game since it's release and it makes me so happy to watch people experience it for the first time! I hope Jen enjoys the experience and I hope to see you guys continue the campaign. Especially for what comes later ;)
Just finished watching and i guess split screen question has been answered. :) Anyway, throughly enjoyed the video.. Especially enjoyed the fact that Hoden took point as guide and back up when required. As for Jen it was a joy to hear the demands for a gun, then ammo, then panic as the grunts appear, then aceptance of the assault rifle, then anger when Holden stole a kill for which he then responded with "Well, you got that guy" and finally when the cut scene came on of Halo, just the comment of "Pretty". One last point is that I believe Jen has developed "The Gamer Stare" as i've heard it called. I'm pretty sure it's not the editing, but I dont remember seeing Jen blink much throughout the video, then again neither did Holden but, by his own admission, he's played Halo a few times. Look forward to the next one.
my gosh, such memories that came flooding back from watching this. Even just the opening cinematic already. my childhood right here. :) P.s, I didnt see anyone else mention this but I get audio crackles every few seconds on this video but not on others. Not sure if it is me or not. Keep the great videos coming Holden and Jen
Halo 1 was the game that I finally learned how to play a fps game on, I remember as a kid getting so frustrated that I couldn't figure out how to move and aim while trying to play at a friends house or wherever I got the chance because I didn't have a console at home. My older cousin bought me the original Xbox for Christmas one year and halo 1 was one of the games he got me and I was determined to figure out how to play it, after alot of frustration of always looking at the sky or ground I started looking at the settings and discovered aim inversion and it changed my life 😂idk why but I was instantly able to play and I played through this game so many times I couldn't begin to count it. it will always be a favorite of mine.
I have replayed the campaign of Halo: Reach at least 50 times. It's my favorite video game ever. I'm all here for Halo content (unless it's the tv show, you guys are welcome to watch it obviously, but i'm going to tune out for that).

IM SO FREAKING HYPED FOR THISSSS
SHE MUST PLAY THE ENTIRE SERIES EVEN 5 AND INFINITE REGARDLESS OF THE LACK OF COUCH CO-OP
as I was watching your Spiderman shirt during your wallet sponsor, I just came up with an amazing idea where you press a button and the wallet shoots out a a card projectile at your target.
Can’t wait for you guys to get to T&R IYKYK

*Gamer Holden:* "Hey baby... wassup?!"
*Military Jen:* "Stop playing around."
Jen's already in the right mindset from the get-go. "I need a weapon."
GOAT quote
There’s an interview of Steve Downs talking about how he had no idea how popular this game was when he initially did the voice lines and then almost forgot until he went to visit a buddy who’s kids and friends were playing it.
He said something like, “Oh hey, I think I voiced a character for this game.”

She gotta gettum! 😂
Well... she was in the military
"I need a weapon"
"Right this way."
this made me laugh😂
She knew there was going to be enemies trying to kill her, so knowing how to jump is secondary when energy bolts are flying at you!
Easily the best series you’ve started
Yeah, this and god of war.
Was NOT expecting this, but as a HUGE Halo fan, I’m super hyped to watch this!
This might be the best crossover you ever uploaded, and I haven't even seen it yet
27:01
Marine: We're gonna make it. Aren't we sir?
Holden: Who's to say?
I lol'd xD
😂
Omg!! Never expected to see this upload!! Halo has been my favorite franchise FOREVER, so I’m super excited to watch this!
Well, this is a treat. My favorite game series. Happy to hear it’s one of Holden’s too. Hope Jen enjoys it.
Anyone who is currently in their 30s and had an OG xbox as a kid, is probably a Halo fan lol.
it's funny to see the difference. Holden is looking and acting calm and relaxed while Jen is looks very concentrated and acts kinda agressive
I’ve been a Halo fan all my life and it is by far my favorite piece of media ever. I am so glad you are also a Halo fan, and so glad you are starting this series, THANK YOU!
I strive for the level of intensity Jen has when playing these games 😂
Watching Jen discover the horror of The Flood is gonna be 👌👌
Shhhhhhhhhh
seriously..... seriously..... Can spoiler comments be deleted???

Just wait until Jen plays the Library mission, and she’ll probably change her mind about continuing to play
I broke a controller as a kid on that level. And you had to throw those old duke controllers pretty hard to break them.
Jen's face when shes shooting aliens. 😅😂 ❤
somewhere, hatred is oozing up out of her.
Holy crap!!!, I just introduced my girlfriend to Halo the other day!!! We've made it to Halo 2.
Hang in there Jen!!! You'll get better the more you play! Eventually you'll not even think about the controls.
I’ve been waiting SO LONG for Halo content from this channel. Couldn’t be happier.
Man, this was the first game I ever play, the story is incredible. For me, the music🤌🏽
Can't wait til she meets the flood...

Jenn getting mad about stealing her kills😂😂 gonna absolutely love this series you guys thank you!!
What's funny is that she killed the Elite that was literally right behind Holden when he killed the one she was after. Basically saved his life.
Holden is a great teacher. Doesn't raise his voice, doesn't get annoyed. That's the best way to teach anyone.
This is something I didn't expect, but awesome. I love Halo and this brings back a lot of memories.
I LOVE Halo, it’s my favorite game series of all time. I’m glad you’re introducing her to it, but I couldn’t watch this full gameplay. Jen’s camera movements made me nauseous 😂
The way Jen went around corners and was so focused really shows her military training coming into play.
I noticed in some of the corridors, she was sticking closer to one side of the hall rather than walking down the middle
Jen: this is like riding a bike for the first time. Practice makes perfect, and I look forward to you beating Holden in Multiplayer one day lol
I did not know this was going to be a thing. I am SO excited.
maybe its the first person perspective or just practice but Jen seems to be way better at aiming in this than in the last of us. Great vid I'd love to see more

Halo 2 and Halo are the best games of all time‼️ 🔥 glad she's getting around to play Halo and getting to get her reaction.
I'm so excited to see you start this series! What a great surprise! Halo is my favorite video game franchise!
Jen playing Halo. Awesome! She's doing great. This will be a fun play-through to watch :D

I cannot express how much of a Halo nerd I am. Always love the watch/play series, but this one is gonna be extra special for me!
Jen it took me my whole life to get average at videogames you're already learning at a faster pace than most
I CANNOT express how excited I am for this journey. Halo was my first video at 6 and I have grown up with the series being my favorite. I love seeing new people react and Jen reacting is A1. Can’t wait for more

She's mad if she doesn't think she's improved, already is really is night and day like Holden said, also Jens warface is amazing 😂😂❤
I felt like Jen didn’t blink for one second! She was so locked in the game!
Yes! This is going to be so awesome! Can’t wait for yall to really enjoy the story line as well
Halo is a fantastic game to start with, halo is how i got into gaming as a kid. Halo 1,2, and 3 plus Reach were my childhood.

YESSSS LETS GO arguably the most important game in FPS history and best campaigns
oh man. This is SO exciting. I'm buckling up for the ride.
Can’t wait for the RDR2 playthrough in the future
I love Jen’s reaction when she shoot aliens she’s good at this game
my gosh, such memories that came flooding back from watching this. Even just the opening cinematic already. my childhood right here. :)
P.s, I didnt see anyone else mention this but I get audio crackles every few seconds on this video but not on others. Not sure if it is me or not.
Keep the great videos coming Holden and Jen
Jen out here want all the smoke coming out of the cryo pod 😂😂 like a true Spartan indeed 😂😂
I'm really glad you guys are doing this! I hope y'all finish the game this was my first game when I was youngling.
Holden: you’ve come a long way Jen you’re getting better!
Jen: *shooting the wall*
😂
That’s better than shooting the floor at least!
19:36 Holden with the teabag 😂
I will support this all the way, I hope this can continue all the way to infinite
I have replayed the campaign of Halo: Reach at least 50 times. It's my favorite video game ever. I'm all here for Halo content (unless it's the tv show, you guys are welcome to watch it obviously, but i'm going to tune out for that).
This is an awesome series idea, I hope you guys do the whole trilogy! ( + Reach )
I love that you are both doing the greatest gaming frnachise in history. Please can you go throught the entire game series at least up to reach.
