  • Today we take a look at Surveyor 2.0 in Trainz 22's full release. In the video we'll look at look around and try to build a small 2 board route using it.
    Here's the link to the Trainz wiki page that lists its build versions

    Thank you for the run thru of Surveyor 2.0. You took your time and taught me a lot.
    At the time of writing, Trainz 22 and Platinum are on sale for under $20. The keep forever versions not the Trainz Plus, and they come with Surveyor 2.0
    I'm an old Trainz'er coming back.

      Glad the video was useful but I suspect some of it will be out of date now. A few months after this I did a whole series building a model railway using the new surveyor. Links on the channel home page. What I found on that larger play through was most things could be done using the new editor but some things still needed to be done using the classic one. Some track couldn't be layed and this was because some methods that older assets use are not supported in the new editor. So if you can't find a way to do something whilst using it, it could be that it's not you, it simply can't be done.
      And yeah... The price right now is really good. I did a video on it yesterday. I think it's the lowest price 22 plat has ever been.

    The new menu is still confusing for me XD.
    Side note is the PLL in the base game as a default route I had some hear say from one of the devs that I work with IRL that it is. May I have some info on this please m8 if it's true.

      There is a Small part of a British route released with Trainz 22 but it's not pll. I have videos showing the cut down and the free full route in the Trainz 22 playlist. I can't remember the exact name and I'm not near my pc to check. It might be called Cornish mainlines or something similar.
      Trainz 22 comes with 4 routes and thats the only British one. Pll to the best of my knowledge only works with game versions up to Trainz 12. That's the version before Tane came out. Tane is when they rewrote the game engine and lots of older assets stopped working after this update. There might be an updated version of the route I'm not aware of though. I haven't checked the store for instance. Some assets such as locos for that route might be on the dls. A quick Google search showed some as listed. As I say I'm not near my pc to do a proper check.

      @@bluewizard There is a new version of PLL about to be released for TRS19/22. Thank you for your video on Surveyor 2.0 but you should mention that Surveyor 2.0 is NOT included in TRS22. You must either be a Trainz Plus subscriber or have a Gold Membership for Surveyor 2.0 to be available in TRS22.

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wasn't aware of the updated route. Thanks for letting me know. Will it be a paid route as its not part of the Trainz 22 literature on their sales page? There's also no mention of the update on the PLL website that I see so where did you see info about the update?
      And I do indeed mention on two occasions in the video that this is only available as part of the subscription. That said I suspect (and I say this in the video) that at Xmas they will release a "platinum" version with the feature. For now subscription only though.
      EDIT. I never really go to the Trainz shop. The updated PLL route is here
      store.trainzportal.com/products/potteries-loop-line-1 for £31.89
      And for completion the old website I found last night is here: www.potteriesloopline.co.uk

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It has its pros and cons. I did an entire series after this using it so I would have an informed opinion and some things are easier such as the merging of spline and single items into a single menu. Other things such as the asset filter are far worse and require a lot more user input to filter what you need. For the time being the original editor is still included with the platinum and rented versions of the game (these are the 2 versions that include the new editor). I would suspect it to stay included for all 22 versions and the next game version also. After that who knows.

    How is Trainz 22 in your experience compared to Trainz 19, performance wise especially? Apart from Surveyor, are there any other new features you consider noteworthy? Strapped for cash, but if I had the money would you recommend Trainz 22 or wait until the next release to try it out?

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't touched the game for a few months but when last checked the performance wasn't any different to 19. 22 is essentially the platinum version of 19. Basically they stopped working on 19, then brought out 22 and carried on working on it. As time goes on 22 will have improvements where 19 won't but right now the devs only seem to be working on things for their subscription tier meaning if you buy the game you won't have access to them. The new surveyor tool is only currently available to subscribers. In their newsletter they also mention that subscribers can now build using a better build resolution. Routes will look nicer but will likely make performance worse so I'm not sure I would use this. I don't know what and when they will release next but looking at what they did previously they might well bring out a platinum version of the game and that might well include the game plus all the stuff they are currently only include on the subscription plans. This is what the platinum version of 19 was. If and when who knows,

    Would you say that Surveyor 2.0 is worth upgrading too? Money isn't an issue but I'm just wondering if it worth the time

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was thinking about doing a long term review of the new editor once the series is done so I've been asking myself this very question. I think it will in time be better. There's some good ideas behind it but right now it isn't feature complete plus I've had a few crashes and little gremlins crop up whilst filming the latter part of the series such as the game refusing after a while to add splines. A reset is needed to fix this. I like when you press add or edit you can select anything. I also like that (when it lets you... Finding the correct place to click can be hard to do this) you can select an entire spline and move it really easily. Splines look harder to use but they are far more precise than the old method. On the other hand I really dislike the new filter. It was a couple of clicks before to filter what you want such as only free objects. But now you have to preset your filters. This will work but its harder and far more time consuming to do. And you need to be careful as if you use the pick tool to grab something it changes from the filter you have selected beck to a base game one. You end up selecting assets if you not careful that you thought you have filtered out.
      For me, as much as I like the new editor when my subscription runs out in Dec I won't renew and will happily use the old editor in the base 22 game which I own as it still does pretty much everything the new one does. The only thing the classic editor can't do is tilt objects and right now only a few objects can be tilted so it's not really a big deal. I highly suspect in the not too distant future we'll see surveyor 2 be added to a new platinum version of the game. They did this with 19 so it's highly likely they'll do it again with 22 as it's a good way to make some money. So maybe that's my answer. it's good but not yet good enough for me to spend money on the subscription renewal to keep it.

    Hello! Quick question, I bought the game on Mac. But I can’t seem to be able to play it. It tried to used the help center and I believe I need to download a T:ANE? I am not sure if I downloaded the right thing 💀 Could you possibly tell me what to do?

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trainz has been around for something like 20years at this point and there are many versions available. Trainz 22 is the latest and came out this year, Trainz 19 came out in Dec 2018 and before that came Tane which was release in 2017.
      The version of Trainz that you'll have access to depends on the version you purchased. Which ever version that is it will be available to download from with your account on the Trainz website.
      Essentially head to www.auran.com/planetauran/login.php & login. You'll now see a menu on the left and under product downloads you'll see the version of the game you have access to. Click on the link and it'll take you to a page you can download the game. On Windows and I presume Mac there are 2 installers you can choose. An offline and a online version. I personally choose the offline version as if you need to install the game again in the future you will have the files already downloaded. Which ever one you choose follow the install will take the same time as you still have to download all the files anyway either in one go of as the install takes place. To install download a version and run the installer. Follow the on screen prompts and the game will install.
      During the install the game should ask you to choose your graphics settings and to login. If it doesn't once the game is installed run the game and a small window will open. Click on the config button and here you will see various options and tabs along the top. From memory I think there is a account tab, click on this and you will see a login field asking for your username and password. Login and you should now be able to close the options menu, go back to the initial screen you saw and open the game.
      Hope this gets you started and if not let me know what issues you are having and I will try to help. Bear in mind I don't have and haven't used a Mac so I can only give general advice. I would imagine once installed the game should function the same on both platforms though.

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try changing the Graphic settings. When you first open the game the little box opens, click on config here and head to the graphics tab. Before changing anything take a screenshot of your current settings so you have a base line and then have a play to see what works for you. I'm not near the PC right now but things like lowering the shadow quality will help. What you will notice is that the settings you choose might work for one route and not another so you might have to come back and change settings again for different routes. Once you change a setting it's likely you'll need to close the game entirely and reopen it for the setting to be applied. Its best to take a bit of time doing this. A bit of time now means a far better experience ongoing

      It's near impossible to derail something in Trainz. There must be something wrong with the track on the route. Drive the loco using the external view slowly and look carefully where it is coming off. Hopefully you'll be able to see the point where it's coming off

    A sound business model for NV3 though, even though they do appear more money hungry than DTM on the face. But if the product is as good as it can be given computing limitations while also giving creators a generous amount of leyway to improve the sim (which costs NV3 little) while also keeping compentent people working for NV3 on my behalf, then I'm all for supporting them with my hard earn money. The alternative is DTM, which relunctly allows content creators access, only serving to diminish the brand over the years and losing competent company staff in the longrun. As a current TS'er who's had enough of business failures from a game players perspective, I think I may hop back on the Trainz bandwagon with the release of 22. Either way, lot's of money to play with cartoon trains...

    Really tired of N3V saying "look at the new game and content" and then you see stuff from TANE in it, or even earlier. I have watched many videos of S2.0 and I honestly don't think it is better then TRS19, and they still use a round brush on a square grid...grrrr.

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did a series using the new editor. It will eventually be better. Around 6 months ago when I last tried it there was only one feature it could do that the classic couldn't which is that it can tilt some assets. It is cleaner and quicker to use but the classic surveyor tool still holds up very well against it. Other than tilt, there's no reason to use the new editor over the classic one right now. What really holds the game back is it's need for user made assets. It's great to have them and I love that you can download and use them all in the game and you don't have to do it externally. But because they absolutely rely on them they can't update the game. In that series just to make a basic looking UK themed model railway I had to use mods made in 2012. Most younger modders don't really seem to play Trainz and favour City Skylines or Transport Fever. So there doesn't seem to be the same amount of mods being made as there previously were. At some point they'll be forced to do something but at present they can still get away as they are.

    • @weasel6535
      @weasel6535 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      agreed once again. If I am not mistaken you can rotate/roll objects in TRS19 with the ctl or shft keys (if the asset allows it). Does 2.0 allow all assets no matter the age of the build?

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Surveyor 2 at least when I last tried it could only tilt a selection of assets. I have to hold my hands up and say I wasn't aware the classic surveyor could tilt assets. I thought it could only rotate, raise and lower objects. If so then the new editor hasn't really got any new features.
      The new editor is a little more precise I found when moving assets. You also don't need to have a separate menu for splines and fixed objects, it's all under a single add and edit button which I preferred.
      I've just thought of a couple of massive downsides for the editor though. We talked about some of the user assets being quite old. 2.0 can't interact with some older assets. I remember trying to move a turntable and it wouldn't. Another big use, on the classic editor I use the filter to filter out paid content and assets older than Trainz 12. Once you set the filters its used for all assets until you remove the filter. Very easy to use and you can save your filters. But the new editors filter is terrible. You have to set up a search with all your variables and save that. You need to setup one of these search filters for each type of content as It creates a button for each search. You must also then remember to use your search button to look for assets as the main buttons which you can't move or exchange positions with the ones you created will not use your filters. It's the worst thing by far I can think of when using the new editor. As I say, it's 6 months since I used it so maybe this for changed.
      Even so I still think eventually it will be better. But I also know that when they finally decide to release it for the paid users, they'll sell it as part of a platinum version of the game. There'll use it to make more money out of us.

    • @weasel6535
      @weasel6535 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Buildings cannot roll, just tried it, but stuff like crossing bucks and coal piles can roll: select ROLL (R) then hold SHIFT+LMB on asset. 2.0 can roll houses and stuff I guess, but why would you need a house on a 40 degree angle?

    I disagree. Renting a game on a subscription basis is only acceptable if we, the customers, allow it.
    I am not a consumer. I am not consuming the game. I am a customer. I am buying the game. If I agree to buy it, then I should own it. Period.
    I own Photoshop, I don't rent it. I own Visual Studio. Etc. I don't, nor will I ever subscribe to have access to a piece of software. I am not a piece of reoccurring income.
    If the software is THAT important, I'd steal it before I'd ever rent it.
