    I haven't played Trainz since the 2004 version as a young lad. Recently reminded of the game through youtube recommended videos, glad to see the series is still going. Nice video!

      I think in the new year I'll be building something using the new surveyor. Not sure what yet but it'll be a mini series of some sort. And on Thursday there'll be a better first look of the new surveyor. It'll likely miss out loads of things as I'm still learning but hopefully give a taste of what its like to use.

    Judging by the menu loading screen… I’d say that the final yet-to-be-released route is probably a UK based one, due to the fact that a green Class 08 and Tornado appear on said loading screen

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did mention the load screen initially but edited it out. It would be strange not including them when theyre shown. We'll have to wait until march to find out.

    Thank you, I believe there is no difference between 19 and 22 (just bug solving and in the future S. 2.0). But there was a need in money I believe, so the routes is pretty much what you get.

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have to wait for the full release to ultimately say that but yes I think this is the case. On Thur I'll look at the new surveyor in more depth and for the rest of the week I'll drive one session per day from the four new releases routes. The driving experience feels exactly the same as before. The build experience is a little different. They seem to have changed zero again. The track sits lower into the ground. Doesn't have anything to do with the new surveyor. I'll wait until Jan before I talk about that though as more testing is needed.

    Thanks for your great review. Right now, I can't see anything in this version that says run out and buy me. Some of the Surveyor features are nice, but can be lived without for $70. I use only 3 or 4 North American steam era routes consistently, and 1000s of routes and locomotives are just sales hyperbole to me. They'll just sit there and gather dust. If it's what you like, though, go for it. Should they do a mid-century PRR specific version, then I'd be first in line! Then there's the monstrous chore of moving your 19 assets, payware, routes etc from 19 to 22 as we did for TANE to 19. Your review is very well done, but the product...I'll let it go at least for now. Many thanks!

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excluding the content the more I've looked at 22 I don't think its worth the upgrade. Tane was a complete re-write with a new game engine. 19 updated the graphics still further over Tane. But 22 just looks like what should be the next on-going update to 19. Other than the new surveyor 2.0 tool which could have been added to 19 I don't see any changes.
      Looking a the new 5 routes which 1 isn't available yet, the UK route is just a part of a larger user made route which is on the download station. It's a good route but still a free add-on which is being included in a paid game. I'm not sure about the others and might have to check. As for rolling stock I mentioned this the other day in a blog post but there does't seem to be any new rolling stock assets. This could yet change but thus far nothing.
      In their blub about the game they mentioned it was in beta, then would be in early access on Jan 1st. I didn't really see what the difference between the two would actually be and so far there doesn't seem to be any as no update has come out. I checked yesterday and today.
      What I feel 22 is for the company (and my opinion might change as the days go by) is it's a cash injection for them. They have employees, monthly outgoings and needed a way of boosting income. I hope I'm wrong and new content and game features are added but only time will tell.

    did you have to download that denver route? mine says download but my disk space is low for C drive when i installed it on D drive. the sessions on that denver route had to be downloaded also which makes no sense unless its only cause its beta

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The game and the game data can be stored in different places. Open the game and on the initial small box that opens click on Trainz settings button which will open a new box and click on the install tab. You will see a box called local data folder. This is where the game settings are. The routes, the sessions, everything is stored there.
      If this is set to C drive, visit the folder using explorer on your PC and then copy the entire folder contents to a new folder that can be called anything you like on your "d" drive somewhere. I created a folder on my D drive called Trainz and another folder inside that called "22 standard" and used this. I have multiple Trainz installs so have many Trainz folders here. Once done change the location in the "local data folder" box in the game settings to the new folder location that you created. Close both the game and the game settings boxes and restart the game.
      Next open your game again and this time click "start Trainz" and make sure it works. Try a route that you've installed. Once you are fully happy it does then you can remove the original folder using explorer on your C drive. Only remove the original "local data folder" once you know the game works after making the changes.
      And to answer your question... when you download the game and install it, it does not include any of the routes or sessions. They need to downloaded from within the game once installed. It was like this with 19 and I think it might also have been with TANE before that too.

    Thanks for reviewing "Trainz 22" I love this series of simulators. There is everything from trainz 10 to trainz 19, perhaps I won't buy this one. The figures that they promised them are not yet available. Not realistic crashes, collisions, pantograph behavior, and the same stubborn mesh of earth textures.

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless there are some major game engine changes I don't see that they'll be many differences between versions. I'll be completely honest. I enjoy building on Trainz but driving not so much. Theres more to do driving-wise and it feels more rewarding to drive on Diesel Railcar simulator and that's a £15 game. I'm also showcasing one session per route this week. 3 of the 4 are over 2hrs long and I got bored. More is not always best.

      @@bluewizard About driving. There is a wonderful simulator "Train Sim world" There for me the driving is at the highest level, the physics of the locomotive is gorgeous, the graphics are gorgeous. But there are not so many add-ons.
      P. S. Also TSW cannot create custom add-ons. Trainz here in the lead .

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FIL_KILLER Train Sim World 1 & 2 are from the devs of Train Simulator. Train Simulator does have mods and an editor but its old. They give it updates each year to make sure it still sells but the game engine is old and won't likely be updated. When they made the new Train Sim World games they decided to leave the editor part of the game out and concentrate on the driving. Thats why the game is able to have better graphics and better driving options. As a driving game Train Sim World 1&2 are better than Trainz. But Trainz is better than Train Simulator. The best way I can describe Trainz is a Jack of all trades but a master of none.

    Are there any sessions for shunting freight along the way?

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't seen any dedicated shunting sessions but tonight's vid I'll try out the Bairnsdale Morning Shift Part 1 session. This session has a mix of shunting and driving to locations. The vid won't be this long but it took 2.15mins to complete. Apart from the UK route the sessions for the other locations were all very long and location driving. There is one more route to come in March. Maybe there'll be a shunting session for that. We'll have to wait and see.

    Can someone clarify. If your buy the subscription in one payment and you unsubscribe after the year you only get to keep the game? No access to S2.0?

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you subscribe you have access to the subscription tier that you purchase for the term of the subscription. You can cancel the renewal at any time and you will continue to have access until the renewal end date.
      Around Xmas before the full release if you purchased a 1yr subscription they would also give you the game that you can keep for ever once your subscription expires. This is what I bought. If you subscribe now you do not get this perk. You only have access to the game whilst subscribed.
      At present s2.0 is only available to subscribers. If you purchase the game you will not have access to it. If you subscribed at Xmas and like me get to keep the game after the subscription ends, access to s2.0 will be removed at the end of the subscription.
      On a side note I fully expect them at Xmas to bring out another premium version of the game for sale which will include s2.0. It's a way of making new sales. They've done this previously if you've not purchased it might be a good idea to wait.

      @@bluewizard You have to ask what ward of the local asylum N3V trading from? I stopped purchasing Dovetail products because of their money grabbing business practices and lack of route dev tools in TSW. I really hope that N3V do as you say otherwise it might be time to hang up my train sim boots and spend my cash on other genres.

    • @bluewizard

      All of the Train sim games have their pros and cons as software and if you put a group of people in a room to discuss which is best you won't likely see a consesus. But one thing we all could likely agree on is the cost can be pretty high. With Trainz I understand why they offer a subscription. They are a company that pays bills monthly such as wages and this gives them an idea of their income. There are things that I'm even happy to pay access for such as the download station. There is a monhtly cost that they will pay for their servers and theres no way the cost of the game alone would ever cover this. But there are things I'm really not happy about that are also included in their subscription such as game updates. If you subscribe you get updates as they are made but if you purchase you get multiple updates packaged together. In practice this means you might have to wait months for a fix for the game. I have a vid coming out on Tue called Buy, Subscribe or miss talking about Trainz. Its a blog type video and I do mention this issue there and my own experience with 19 and the updates. Playing Trainz for a while has soured my thoughts about this company. There are conpanies that do seem to care such as Transport Fever. The company behind this game seem to have a passion. Its a different game but they don't try to get every last penny from you and support their games for multiple years. My favourite driving sim is Diesel Car Simulator. One dev and again its a work of passion and there are some big ggraphical impovements coming on that game. Its already far superior sim than Trainz and there are no paid DLCs. And Rolling line is another great example of a single dev creating an ever growing railway sim. Again no DLCs. I supose the point is you don't need to keep paying high prices, there are other options :-)

    • @bluewizard
      @bluewizard  หลายเดือนก่อน

      They really are very different games. TSW is just about driving where Trainz splits gameplay between driving and creating your own routes. As TSW doesn't have the route creation it is better optimised and more focus can be placed on the driving experience but because Trainz does have route building you'll find lots of free routes on the download station made by other players (access to the DLS isn't free but can be purchased cheaply for either a day, week, month, or year periods. Once something is downloaded you don't need DLS access to keep using it, only to download it). Neither games try to give a 100% authentic driving experience. Games such as Simrail are more authentic but they are more difficult to master.

      The download station indeed isn't free. A 1 years first class ticket costs £28 and this gives you full access. Personally i wait for a sale and normally buy it then. I've bought it in the past for 50% off in sales. A first class ticket as far as I know can be used with any version of the game. It would certainly work with 19.

      As for support, I've never requested product support so can't comment on how good or bad they are or how long that lasts for.

      I can't argue against your comments on price. I see little difference between 22 and 19. In fact the only difference I see (software-wise I mean) is the surveyor tool and thats only currently available if you take out the subscription. Although I suspect next Xmas they will release a "platinum" version for sale that will include the feature.
      They've finally just released the full version a couple of days ago which I'm currently looking through. There will be a video on this chatting about the updates next week or perhaps the week after. And there are some updates over the pre-release version which is shown on these videos but I still don't see that the game has enough changes over 19 to justify an entirely new game. It still looks to me as an accumulative update of 19.

    Quite why anyone would choose this over TS2022 (if you want content, versatility, physics and route building) or TSW2 (if you want flashy graphics and simpler gameplay), is a mystery to me. The visuals are absolutely awful. The sound is thin and lacks dynamics. The physics are non-existent and the UI ......... Why? Just why?
