Lucy Punch, who plays Hattie, has played at least 5 different versions of “the ugly stepsister”. Fun fact: Lucy Punch, aka Hattie, also played the stepsister in 2000's Cinderella, Into the Woods, and the Cinderella episode of Fairy Tales. Even better, it's actually not typecasting. When she was a little girl, when everyone else wanted a princess party, she asked for an ugly stepsister party. This is literally a dream come true for her.
And she might not be an ugly stepsister in this one, but her character is also very similar in the The 10th Kingdom miniseries. She plays a horny bitchy sheep herder who's out to make the main girl miserable. Big evil stepsister energy, still.
The actress that plays Ella’s friend, Parminder Nagra, is the lead in Bend it like Beckham, which is definitely a movie I’d recommend. Keira Knightley is also in it.

Quick note: Ella's fairy godmother couldn't reverse Lucinda's spell. There is a scene in the movie where she explains that the caster is the only person that can remove their own spell.
I think they were talking more about that she didn't counter demand. So when her step mother demands her to no longer be friends with her, she didn't then say, "Ella, do not tell her that" which would have been the more recent command which Ella would have to follow. She could have protected her better.
In the book, fairy culture is just really against casting 'big magic' because they don't want to cause long-term consequences. Lucinda is unusual in that she uses it pretty freely. She especially likes to gives people terrible gifts she thinks are good, like giving a giant couple the gift of never being able to leave each other's side or giving someone the gift of being a squirrel. Unfortunately, reversing these 'gifts' also requires the fairies to perform 'big magic,' so they refuse to do so.
Ella surrounded herself with people who were polite and asked instead of demanded. Hattie was used to demanding instead of asking (will you pass me that? Vs pass me that!) so of course she would notice before Ella’s friend. This is based off a book which is very good as well and they explore some more of the idiosyncrasies of the curse as well. Also with Anne’s singing-this was the first big movie she sang in, but watch Les Mis to see her really shine!
Gotta be honest - I grew up with Ella Enchanted as my absolute favorite book. I read it cover to cover more times than I can count - and in comparison, I wish the movie had done that story a bit more justice. But I still do love the movie as a sheer fun movie! I do actually enjoy this movie a lot more when not trying to fit it into the mold of a proper adaption.
@@emilyb5307 I know its a bit sad, that it's just loosly based on the book, but when i first read it (i had watched the movie before, and found out later, that there was a book) i thought it would be a bit more difficult to portrait some parts of her conflict in the end in a movie. Its way easier in a moviesense, where you have limited time, and limited ways to show inner conflicts, to make her kill her love, than "just" have the stepmother tell her how to influence the prince/king and the land
To be fair to her friend: Ella was compelled to not tell anyone about the curse. So in order to know for sure Areida would have to test it like ellas step sister did. By asking ella to do shit she doesn’t want to do. If you are a good person though..would you do that? I think it would be really hard to make that choice to test it out. Also it’s possible up to this point Ella hasn’t had a tonne of commanding people in her life so her friend might not have seen enough to be anything more than mildly suspicious. Also even if you felt kinda sure about it, there’s probably a smidge of doubt..she’d need the courage to directly confront Ella about it and Ella is compelled to never give her the truth. 🤷♀️ I agree Areida shoulda figured it out BUT it’s not out of the realm of possibility that she didn’t figure it out beyond like “huh my friend really is a push over”
Idk if someone already mentioned, but it is Anne Hathaway singing! (shes a trained singer, but she didn't actually want to sing for the role apparently. but ended up doing it anyway.) Glad you guys enjoyed it! Its a fun light-hearted movie I always love to rewatch every couple of years.
So fun fact... originally for this scene, they were going to have her do more of a medieval-sounding song, but at one point during down time, Anne was listening to headphones and the director heard her singing along to "somebody to love" and was like "THAT ONE!"
There’s a line in this movie that goes “I bet he showers naked!”. That’s classic Stan behaviour but we need better representation than mere screaming and creepiness.
It took me until hearing "hey bud, how's it going?" for like the fiftieth time to realize that we, the viewer, are movie budz as well. Why was it so heartwarming?
Fun Anne fact: she's a professionally trained singer and was a frontrunner for the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera but was just a bit too young at the time. So yeah, queen can sing!
@@samanthatomcat I guess I ought not believe everything that I find on the internet 😶☺️ I think the creator of that one made her 10 years younger than she actually is. My bad.

I find it very hard to separate this movie from the book. I have never been able to love this movie and sometimes don't even like it because I love the book so much!
@@asims713 Same! I have always loved the book, and I read it before the film came out. I was very disappointed with the film as an adaptation because it's so different.
@@asims713 Came to say this. The book is soooo good that it hurts to see the changes they made in the movie. I feel like they didnt want the movie to be quite as "dark" and that's why they made the choices they did with it.
Exactly what I was going to say. I loved the books and was excited for this movie. Separate the movie is OK, but in comparison the movie just doesn't live up to the book. Dominic noble did a lost in translation review of both (comparing books to movies).
@@samanthatomcat It's one of my favs too! But hey, (and please know that I mean this in a friendly way...!!) the term chick flick is just so sexist... maybe it's about time we stop using that to describe movies that happen to not be about men? Just leaving it out there with the intention of being helpful, really not to attack anyone or anything. I am so sorry if I sound annoying, I am just so fed up with that term, I really needed to say it... :)
Yes, it's very good. And as a french girl, I was a little happy to see it takes place in France. If you didn't understand it but when Henri called the Spain's princess " Madame " it's symbolic because in France, only married women could be called like that (it changed now but I never understood why)
That is Anne Hathaway’s voice. She also sang in Les Miserables’, She sang it live during filming and apparently her performance made Hugh Jackman cry. If you don’t react to Les Miserables’s you should definitely watch her sing I dreamed a dream.
54:30 Earlier in the film it's said that the fairy who lives with Ella, Mandy, had tried to turn Benny back multiple times before but was never able to do it (due to her bad magic).
And the reason she said she stopped was because she was afraid something WORSE would happen to him. (Like turning him into an inanimate object with no floating head like...a pumpkin.)
The parts with Areida (Ella's friend) make more sense in the book. And Mandy (the fairy that's really bad at magic) was one of the household's servants so she was limited in her ability to help Ella not only by her lack of magical skill but also by her standing within the society/household. They cut and changed a lot to make the story work better for a movie. Personally I like both of the movie version and the book version a lot but in different ways. The book is one of several the author wrote within the same universe (Areida's sister is the main character of Fairest which is the snow white one) and several other fairytale/fantasy books that I loved as a child. Loved this reaction, the responses are always so fun and insightful.
The book “ella enchanted” is one of the childhood favorites that survived every one of my decluttering sprees. The movie is good fun, the book is just more my vibe. a little more grounded, a little more nuanced. It’s written from ella’s perspective so we get a lot more understanding of how she experiences the curse. she will resist the order as long as she can physically hold out, but the magic is almost hooked into her nervous system. she gets a pounding headache, a pulling in her joints, and the room starts spinning. Magic in general is understood to be something with unforeseeable ripple effects and therefore isn’t something that anyone except Lucinda uses lightly. No one will undo ella’s curse because it was big magic to cast it in the first place and it would be big magic to break it. With people who know her well, Ella can sometimes ask, like, “do I have to?” while resisting an order and the person will rephrase it as a request. The book takes place over several years during which we see a friendship blossom between Char and Ella, frequently through correspondence so the curse doesn’t mess with the logistics of consent as much during the formation of their bond. *spoiler alert for anyone intending to read the book* the big curse breaking moment is actually when dame Olga and Hattie order Ella to marry the prince. the uncle doesn’t exist in the book. so Ella is terrified not only of potentially being used to assassinate char like in the movie scenario, but of being used as a weapon in political games. She’s terrified of how she could be used to hurt the kingdom. So she resists the order to marry prince char to save herself and literally everyone she knows. The deeper implications are set up in the movie but I feel like the framing is still more focused on her betraying her true love. Cary elwes is fucking devouring the scenery in this movie, tho. Between his role in Robin Hood: men in tights and the princess bride, he has the perfect resume the do this part justice
Given the curse's ability to defy the laws of nature, I'm surprised Ella didn't ask Mandy to tell her to do things just so that she'd be able do cool/useful things. Like "Mandy. This homework is so boring! Can you tell me to finish it in 2 minutes so I can play for the rest of the day?"
Thanks for doing this because Anne Hathaway deserves the love and respect because a lot of people for some reason have beef with her. I guess it’s because she falls in the category of “the hot clumsy chick” cliche like Sandra Bullock in “Miss Congeniality”. I think she’s freaking fantastic! If she were around the same age as Emma Watson, then she would honestly be the better and perfect Belle 💯 the soundtrack for this movie is pretty solid! This is where I get some of my knowledge of older music from, so I’m glad I can appreciate them since I didn’t grow up in that generation haha. Merry Christmas, Budz! Love you, guys! ❤️
they should have made her belle. it's not like she looks old, and makeup and editing/cg would fix any blemish anyway. will always hold a grudge that emma watson was belle and not someone like anne hathaway, who is a better singer and looks more like belle to boot.
@@MonAhgasInsomniAroELF yeah and non-robotic 😂😂 plus, the ball gown would’ve looked better without Emma Watson being the hardcore feminist that she is, taking over 💯 like girl you may be iconic as badass Hermione, but not as Broadway yet classic level Belle.
To be fair it was said Prince Char was away at school so he could actually not know what his uncle was doing. I love how the uncle is actually mustache twirlingly evil. He is giving big Jafar energy. This is actually based on a book of the same name
I absolutely love the aesthetic of this film, with the fashion specially, the mix between early 2000's and medieval fantasy is really fun and campy, makes for a unique look
Great reaction as always! I'm glad you recognized Cary Elwes, but I'm surprised you didn't recognize Eric Idle since you were quoting Monty Python 😅 I'm always torn when I think about this film. Honestly, I was pretty upset when it came out because I really enjoyed the book, and this adaptation didn't live up to my expectations. But, if I'm not thinking about the book and if I think of this movie as a separate entity, it is entertaining. Happy holidays guys! 🎄 Edit: my favourite Cinderella adaptation is, and always will be, Ever After. 💕
Movies that mix modern humor with fantasy setting are some of my favorites. It's just a really fun spin on my favorite genre. Another really good modern/fantasy mix is the 10th kingdom. Lucy punch (The coniving stepsister) is in that as well. She's really good at playing insufferable characters
When he asks her to kiss him if you listen you’ll notice there’s no chime or ding like there normally is when she is being forced to do something. She already wanted to therefore it was her choice
Fun fact - Cary Elwes was offered the role of Robin Hood in Robin Hood King of Thieves. He turned it down as he felt it was too silly. Two years later he accepted the role of Robin Hood in Mel Brook's Robin Hood Men in Tights.
Ultimate comfort movie! The singing, the dancing, the drama, the love!!!! Another movie I distinctly remember seeing in theaters and thinking wowww my life is boring
This movie is an underrated classic and is a brilliant satire on the toll obedience has on children, Stan Culture and remixed stuff better than ‘Bridgerton’.
that's actually her singing! Anne Hathaway was in Les Misérables and sang incredibly in that, too! You should check out the movie clip of her singing "I Dreamed A Dream" -- you won't be disappointed
I read the book in middle school and loved it, it had a pretty different feel from the movie (and also explained much better some of the things you had questions about during your viewing), so I didn’t care overly for the film adaption at first. But then my own little girls watched this movie like, I don’t know, 50…thousand? times? And so now I love it 😂🤣 it was inevitable 😂 I love your guys’ wholesome reactions, hope you are having very happy holidays!
When i watched Hannibal the series I was wondering where I saw the main character will graham from and for a while it wracked my brain then I realized he was Prince Char and I bout lost my mind. Hugh Dancy is great!
I haven't seen this since I was a teen so I enjoyed this immensely. Though, after seeing Areida, It made me wonder if BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM is on your to watch list? She stars in that film along with Keira Knightley.
Thanks for the amazing video, guys! This movie is actually based on the book "Ella Enchanted" by Gail Carson Levine and while the film is great, I just love the book so much! There were several changes in the movie adaptation, so reading the book would actually answer a lot of your questions. It's also kind of a whole other story, so it shouldn't feel like you know everything while reading. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll write some of the changes further down: SPOILERS 1. The relationships of several characters are different in the book. Char and Ella meet and interact a little differently (their relationship is a lot cuter in my opinion), and it's more about treating each other as individuals instead of adhering to social rules, and being allowed to be silly with each other. The story also happens over a longer period of time, so them getting together doesn't feel as abrupt. Areida is actually not her childhood friend but a friend she met at finishing school (midway through the book) and their relationship also makes a lot more sense that way. 2. In the book, it's made clear from the beginning that Mandy is a servant in Ella's household, so she can't say much in front of Ella's stepmother without the risk of being fired and then not being able to help her at all. 3. I don't want to spoil too much, but Ella is really cool in the book. She is pretty smart about keeping her curse hidden, tricks ogres, disguises herself at a ball, actually talks to Lucinda etc. 4. The entire side story about the uncle is a little different? And by "a little" I mean completely. (It's been a while since I've had the chance to read the book though, so if I remembered anything incorrectly, please tell me!) SPOILERS I highly recommend reading the book if you have time and are in the mood for a feel good story! The only critique I've heard so far is that some readers don't like the writing style, so it sometimes becomes a "You either like it or you don't" situation, but you should definitely give it a try.
Several changes? More like the whole thing was changed with a few things like some names and the idea of the curse being the only things kept. I love your list though and agree with the all those points.
@@goma3088 Haha, true. It's definitely different 😅 But I'm pretty charitable towards the movie because my siblings love it and I think it served as a gateway to the book for a lot of people.
I loved this movie so much as a kid! I also really loved the book it was based off, although they are very different. The movie has a lot of pop culture humor, but the books had a lot of witty humor and it feels inspired.
Anne did not sing her heart out in Les Mis so much so that she won an oscar for a 14 minute screen time character for you to doubt her singing like this

I like how you guys are just making it through all of Anne Hathaway’s PEAK 00s collection. Just entertaining as hell. Also please, The Holiday, your reaction would be so funny.
DUDE My bf calls me his little ella enchanted!! I have really bad PTSD from sexual assault, and my brain just kind of switched to being over compliant so that no one ever gets mad at me. im working on it. but its a long road. But this is still one of my favorite movies, and my bf is so adorable for calling me that :D
I actually got nightmares about being compelled through forces out of my control to harm loved ones because of this film, it’s a real scary concept for a kid, already having so little control as is and being made into a true puppet. I accepted that it was just a movie soon afterwards but it really was a horrifying thought to me back then. I felt Ella’s pain.
I have this movie on DVD, and I can tell you what happened to the snake. In one of the deleted scenes it was revealed that one of Char's fan girls turned the snake into a belt. Oh and you'll notice that Hattie kind of disappeared during the final song. Well in the same deleted scene she asked Lucinda for a gift, to marry a prince. Lucinda brings her the frog prince, this of course makes Hattie mad, she yells a Lucinda, so Lucinda turns Hattie into a frog.
8:46. Cary Elwes came to our Phoenix comicon a few years back and HE pronounced his own last name like "Yules". He said: "Hi everyone, I'm Cary Yules..." I was so shocked because I'd always said 'El-wes'. To this day... I'm still not sure if that's the right pronunciation of if he was having one over on us.
I really like both this movie and the book that it was based off of. The movie took this story in a very different direction being campier and sillier while the book dove a bit more into the nuances and implications, but I think that because they are so different that I can love them both for different reasons rather than one or the other being better at reaching the same end goal.
So happy you're reacting to Ella Enchanted! One of the best Cinderella stories. I read the book as a child and I still re-read it every year, it's so good. If you like the movie, I recommend reading the book because it's quite different from the movie (and much better in my opinion)
I’m so dumb : I read the title, saw the thumbnail, and somehow still thought this was going to be Enchanted with Amy Adams (which is also surprisingly enchanting, for the matter). Happy holidays, lads!

The "some British guy" that was kind of the narrator is Eric Idle from Monty Python. Gotta say, it made me laugh when you had Monty Python in mind at several points, but then didn't recognize Eric. ;)
I love how you had Monty Python on the brain, but didn't recognize Eric Idle. This movie is okay, I'm just sad that they didn't actually adapt the book faithfully. I read it first, and I'll always be a bit disappointed. I'm still hoping that it will be remade and actually follow the book.
So going into it as someone who read the book when they were a kid: This would have been a Cinderella retelling if it wasn't Ella's Enchanted: In name only. There's an awesome "Lost in Adaptation" TH-cam video that breaks down the plot of the book and how the movie and book are similar and different. Both are independently amazing, but for completely different reasons.
This movie is based on a an awesome and not-so-long book that I recommend by Carson Levine! I especially like how Char's and Ella's relationship extends into childhood in the book and more worldbuilding around the names tossed around in the movie like Ayorthians get more backstory.

I agree Areida shoulda figured it out BUT it’s not out of the realm of possibility that she didn’t figure it out beyond like “huh my friend really is a push over”
I agree with you. Also want to add that she did ask Ella why she was always doing what Hattie told her to do but Ella wasn't able to tell her.
Yes, she promised to her mother to keep her gift secret
Idk if someone already mentioned, but it is Anne Hathaway singing! (shes a trained singer, but she didn't actually want to sing for the role apparently. but ended up doing it anyway.)
Glad you guys enjoyed it!
Its a fun light-hearted movie I always love to rewatch every couple of years.
@@gldd78 *Anne is just perfection.
Not to mention, ya know, her part in Les Mis... in which she sang live... lol
It took me reading this comment to have the same realization
@@missserenity1090 same here I'm so dumb
not me thinking it was the earbuds they wear … 🤦♀️
Fun Anne fact: she's a professionally trained singer and was a frontrunner for the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera but was just a bit too young at the time. So yeah, queen can sing!
That doesn't make sense. She was in her 20s when that movie was filmed. Whereas Emmy Rossum was like 16.
@@samanthatomcat I guess I ought not believe everything that I find on the internet 😶☺️ I think the creator of that one made her 10 years younger than she actually is. My bad.
My understanding is it was a scheduling conflict. Princess Diaries 2 if I'm not mistaken
I think the reason she didn't stay frozen at the beginning was because the next order was to put her hands together, meaning she had to move
I saw Ella Enchanted for the first time when I was like 11 and I rented it from the library. The desk lady ended up buying it for me cause I would rent it so much😭

Plus I like the reverse of the cliche of the one who doesn’t want to be a lawyer or doctor and instead go into show business.
It's so funny that Stef kept mentioning Monty Python because the narrator (Eric Idle) was actually one of the Monty Python XD
by the way, Marry Christmas budz!!
I was looking for someone to mention this :)
I know I was cracking up that they kept mentioning it but didn’t recognize him 😂
Exactly my thoughts. It's like how can you keep mentioning Monty Python and not recognize the narrator is one of the members of the group
I came to the comments for this! Lol

For real this channel makes me so happy. I remember being 8 when I first watched this. I’m now 23 and it’s still good as I remember 😭
Girl same!! I love this movie so much!!
I've never met you, but I think I just heard your voice at the *omg stopp*
Right? I love it!!!
There's an actual book called Ella Enchated and is a far different retelling of the Cinderella story. It's also an entire series of books (4).
The book was the pinnacle of my childhood. This movie absolutely destroyed the story.
If you liked this movie, you should definitely watch Ever After starring Drew Barrymore. It’s by far the best Cinderella inspired story I’ve seen
Agreed! It's also my favorite "chick flick" of all time!
Agree!!
Yesss
Lucy Punch always wanted to be one of the Cinderella's sisters and she fullfilled that wish four times now in different versions of the story.
It's a funny way to choose rôles 🤭
That's...dedication, I guess
That is Anne Hathaway’s voice. She also sang in Les Miserables’, She sang it live during filming and apparently her performance made Hugh Jackman cry. If you don’t react to Les Miserables’s you should definitely watch her sing I dreamed a dream.
my seventh grade social studies teacher was BOLD AS HELL for showing us this movie as an intro to segregation & racial dynamics
What is exactly Mandy's role in Ella's house ? I never understood
@@a.g.demada5263 She is just a house Fairy. Like The house elves from harry potter.
@@corvidaemoon8744 ah ok. Thank you
The parts with Areida (Ella's friend) make more sense in the book.
*spoiler alert for anyone intending to read the book*
the big curse breaking moment is actually when dame Olga and Hattie order Ella to marry the prince. the uncle doesn’t exist in the book. so Ella is terrified not only of potentially being used to assassinate char like in the movie scenario, but of being used as a weapon in political games.
It's because she's "mean" from the rumor Mill but who knows. I suspect all celebs at her caliber have an ego
I don't care about her as a person tbh, I just think she's an incredible and beautiful actress.
it's also because she's kind of an activist and some people think it's a white savior thing, but it's not
they should have made her belle. it's not like she looks old, and makeup and editing/cg would fix any blemish anyway. will always hold a grudge that emma watson was belle and not someone like anne hathaway, who is a better singer and looks more like belle to boot.
I'm glad you recognized Cary Elwes, but I'm surprised you didn't recognize Eric Idle since you were quoting Monty Python 😅
I'm always torn when I think about this film. Honestly, I was pretty upset when it came out because I really enjoyed the book, and this adaptation didn't live up to my expectations. But, if I'm not thinking about the book and if I think of this movie as a separate entity, it is entertaining.
Happy holidays guys! 🎄
Edit: my favourite Cinderella adaptation is, and always will be, Ever After. 💕
A fish may love a bird sire but where will they live?
“…he could be just some British guy.” 🥲
@@dinkerz Eric Idle was in so many things back in the 90's too. 😅 And a surprising amount of kids stuff, like Casper.
I love the way you both said "oh no!" When he said "kiss me" but you both sighed in relief when he said "it's not an order".
You should watch "Ever After". Drew Barrymore is great in it!

I was about to make this comment!! Hope they're able to watch it soon!
Yes, Anne sang that. She is actually great singer, as she shown with I dreamed a dream in Les Miserables. She was great.
This and Ever After are two of my favorite Cinderella adaptations!
When he asks her to kiss him if you listen you’ll notice there’s no chime or ding like there normally is when she is being forced to do something. She already wanted to therefore it was her choice
True, also the way she looked at him too is her consent signal to him.
Fun fact - Cary Elwes was offered the role of Robin Hood in Robin Hood King of Thieves. He turned it down as he felt it was too silly. Two years later he accepted the role of Robin Hood in Mel Brook's Robin Hood Men in Tights.
When it comes to Cinderella adaptations, Ever After is the gold standard - but on the more fantastical side of things, this is definitely up there.
Ultimate comfort movie! The singing, the dancing, the drama, the love!!!! Another movie I distinctly remember seeing in theaters and thinking wowww my life is boring
I’d actually really love a “sequel” of this where they take other fairy tales and give them the same sort of spin
This has got to be one of the best Cinderella adaptations out there.
This movie is an underrated classic and is a brilliant satire on the toll obedience has on children, Stan Culture and remixed stuff better than ‘Bridgerton’.
Literally shouting at my tv when you mentioned how THE Eric Idle looked familiar. You even brought up Monty Python as a reference. Omg 😂
that's actually her singing! Anne Hathaway was in Les Misérables and sang incredibly in that, too! You should check out the movie clip of her singing "I Dreamed A Dream" -- you won't be disappointed
Definitely one of my favorites as a kid. It surprisingly still holds up after all of these years.
I read the book in middle school and loved it, it had a pretty different feel from the movie (and also explained much better some of the things you had questions about during your viewing), so I didn’t care overly for the film adaption at first. But then my own little girls watched this movie like, I don’t know, 50…thousand? times? And so now I love it 😂🤣 it was inevitable 😂
I love your guys’ wholesome reactions, hope you are having very happy holidays!
Do you think it’s accessible for a girl in her early twenties? The comments made me intrigued about the books
When i watched Hannibal the series I was wondering where I saw the main character will graham from and for a while it wracked my brain then I realized he was Prince Char and I bout lost my mind. Hugh Dancy is great!
WHAT???? i never noticed
I’ve seen this movie a million and one times and NEVER realized that Char is just short for Charming. 🤷🏼♀️😅
I haven't seen this since I was a teen so I enjoyed this immensely. Though, after seeing Areida, It made me wonder if BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM is on your to watch list? She stars in that film along with Keira Knightley.
Her singing in this movie hilariously enough is what convinced the casting director for Les Mislerables to give her a chance!
I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll write some of the changes further down:
SPOILERS
(It's been a while since I've had the chance to read the book though, so if I remembered anything incorrectly, please tell me!)
SPOILERS
I highly recommend reading the book if you have time and are in the mood for a feel good story!
@@Ανδρεια Fair enough. I've definitely come to appreciate the movie as its own thing but the book will always be my favorite of the two.
I loved this movie so much as a kid! I also really loved the book it was based off, although they are very different. The movie has a lot of pop culture humor, but the books had a lot of witty humor and it feels inspired.
Anne did not sing her heart out in Les Mis so much so that she won an oscar for a 14 minute screen time character for you to doubt her singing like this
Oh, i am SO excited for this! I was obsessed with this movie as a child and now it’s one of my absolute favorite comfort movies. thank you for covering it!!

Ever After and along with Ella Enchanted are personally one of the top Cinderella adaptations in my opinion!

If you plan to check out more Cinderella adaptations, Ever After with Drew Barrymore is so good! (Barring her weird accent choice 😅)
None of the accents were it in that movie lmao but it's still one of the best for sure!!
Ever After and Whitney Houston's Cinderella will always be the best adaptions, and I can't wait for them to watch them!
100% the Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney Houston is AMAZING. I remember watching it when it originally aired on TV and being enthralled.
If you've never heard the commentary for this movie you should, it's probably my fav commentary ever. 10/10 good vibes
Also if you like Cinderella adaptations, hand s down the best one is Ever After with Drew Barrymore and Angelica Huston
Hands down
So happy you're reacting to Ella Enchanted! One of the best Cinderella stories. I read the book as a child and I still re-read it every year, it's so good. If you like the movie, I recommend reading the book because it's quite different from the movie (and much better in my opinion)

I especially like how Char's and Ella's relationship extends into childhood in the book and more worldbuilding around the names tossed around in the movie like Ayorthians get more backstory.
i just notice hat what her mom told her before dying was what broke the curse "*look* at yourself, what's inside you is stronger than any spell"
As far as Cinderella film adaptations go, this one and Ever After aren’t bad. But nothing beats the 1997 Cinderella musical with Whitney Houston.
