Kinda, but the geno 52 are not common guardsman, they were the first genetically engineered super soldiers, the thunder warriors were created based on them, and then the Astartes, the 52 are basically the grandfather of the astartes and the great grandfather of the primaris The 52 are also part of the old hundred, which are the regiments of the imperial army that were allowed to continue their duty after the unification wars, most of the regiments were purged after the unification before the great crusade, the 52 are among one of the few that have permission of continuing their duty and battling in the great crusade, their are also the most respected regiment of the entirety of the old hundred, the human version of the custodes basically

@@ironduke5058 sadly no, the 52 were lost in the world of 42 hydra tertius a few years before the Heresy, it is unknown what happened to them, but that world was a cabal Outpost and the same place when the cabal told alpharius about the heresy and how mankind would be destroyed unless horus emerges victorious in the heresy years before it happened, so the alpha legion probably purged them
I love when Marines get to just joke around and be casual with guardsmen or regular humans. Like Andrej telling a joke that nearly makes Grimaldus laugh, or a Gaunts Ghost member actually outwitted four Marines during a training exercise, and the Marines loved his insane suicidal tactics so much they just started laughing. It's nice seeing them have legitimate conversations and friendships with regular people.
Stuff like the Salamanders shows that they're fully capable of having " normal " friends and families . It's just that some Chapters prefer that they don't.

He wasn't exactly a basic guardsman though. He was part of the Geno 5-2 chilliad, a regiment dating back to the unification wars and generally chosen and altered to be peak physical humans. The Geno augmentations were what the Emperor based the Astartes on, though clearly much more beefed up.
This book was so damn good. The Geno 5-2 are a weird Gaurdsman unit. The chicks getting all horny was odd. But, John Gramatticus is such a good character. And, the twist with the Cabal and Alpharius was wild. GW should have stuck with the storyline of each side having a potential turncoat Primarch. Alpharius being secretly loyal and The Lion being a secret traitor.

Moments like this are why Warhammer is such a good grimdark setting. Writers and fans know how to balance the darkness with just the right amount of lightness, whether it be in the form of levity or goodness.

The horus heresy books can do a good job at making the space marines far more relatable than they actually are. Especially with characters like Torgaddon and Loken. Makes the books much more enjoyable to me.
That book is fucking excellent. John Grammaticus is one of the best characters that Abnett ever created. And, the twist about Alpharius at the end is nuts.

Alpharius : "I'd be right happy to~" This may or may not happen since it's 40k and involves Alpharius (or not)
This was one of my favorite parts of the book. Had real Batman the animated series vibes when that thug walked in on bats, then just nods and walks out. Honestly made the right choice in both cases here.
I refuse to believe that Alpha Legionnaire would kill the guardsman for that, its not everyday that a guardsman has the adamantaine balls to not only disobey a space marine but also retort like hes just another human.
They did not. Bronzi became so valuable and respected to the Alpha Legion they actually rescued him from his kidnappers. You can guess why. He became their agent.

I named my veteran in Darktide Hurtado, Bronzi’s first name. And with my first game as veteran, I pulled off my first clutch. Hurtado Bronzi is an absolute gigachad. Seriously, read Legion if you haven’t already, it’s a fantastic book.
This also makes me kinda like the Alpha Legion because there can be an ACTUAL exchange instead of just mindless shooting that opens up cool moments like this
