Have seen Metallica several times since Damage Justice tour in ´88 and every time he have messed up songs like One or For whom the Bell tolls completely. He has still a lot to learn from REAL drummers.

Depends on what kind of drumming your looking for. But Danny will always be my favorite drummer, you should watch his drum solo on the live version of parabola
+Jafet Violante in my opinion Adler is above jordison. Joey has speed but Adler has his original touch. but in all honesty they could be interchangeable depending on what song your basing it on. Both amazing drummers none the less
10. Tommy Lee-Motley Crue 9. Dave Lombardo-Slayer 8. Jay Weinberg-Slipknot 7. John Dolmayan-System of a Down 6. Joey jordison-Slipknot 5. Mike Mangini-Dream Theatre 4. Jimmy "the rev" Sullivan- Avenged Sevenfold 3. Danny Carey-Tool 2. Neil Peart-Rush Honorable Mentions: Chris Adler-Lamb of God, Vinnie Paul-Pantera, Dave Grohl-Nirvana, Chad Smith-Red hot chili Peppers 1. Mike Portnoy-Dream Theatre This took forever!
Caden Ringling I agree with Neil being a god on the kit, but Rush isn't Heavy Metal or hard rock. IMO I would put joey at #2 and thomas haake at #6, with brann dailer instead of tommy lee. Other than that, good list
Idk I feel like Lars always gets a bad rap for no reason. He fucks up tempo and whatnot sometimes but you gotta give him the credit he deserves, he's still a great drummer
@@logan.putnam Agreed 100% without lars metallic would not have made historical songs like For whom the bell tolls, enter sandman, One and much more the hate he gets is ridiculous.
This list only has known drummers and not skilled drummers there are many local bands that has more skills and drummer Carlos Araya is a great example th-cam.com/video/PaY_4315xtI/w-d-xo.html
I'm a big Metallica fan, but Lars does not even make top 250. Brann Dailor, Charlie Benante, Tomas Haake, Chris Adler and many others are just much better.
My list: #10: Vinnie Paul #9: Joey Jordison #8: Nick Menza #7: Mike Portnoy #6: Gene Hoglan #5: Nicko McBrain #4: Scott Travis #3: Bill Ward #2: Danny Carey #1: Dave Lombardo Honorable mentions: Tommy Lee Gar Samuelson The Rev Clive Burr Brann Dailor
Danny Carey’s performance on “Ticks & Leeches” was ranked as the #1 drum performance by Rolling Stone! Maynard James Keenan (Tool’s lead singer) actually stands on a platform next to Danny’s kit so he can watch him play! How is Lars Ulrich better?!
they pick the most classic as the best and not the best skill. If it was skill Danny would be number one. Not even my favorite but no one can play like him.
very much agreed. I saw them live last night. EPIC live show and he did like a 10 minute drum solo...top 3 I've ever heard...only two that may have been better would be Buddy Rich or Tony Royster Jr., IMO.
J Edwards Danny is a monster drummer but I don't think they meant a certain order on who's better and who's not. Rich and royster are not metal which is why I would imagine why they didn't make it on this list
LimitIsIllusion What has that to do with actual drumming skills? Metallica isn't famous because of Lars. They thought about kicking him out. On the other side. Joey was a huge part of Slipknots style. Almost no band had drum parts like that backen then.
Best METAL drummers could be Chris Adler, Tomas Haake, Sean Reinert, Paul Bostaph, Brann Dailor, George Kollias, Van Williams, Sid Falck, Dave Lombardo and Gene Hoglan. Danny Carey and Mike Mangini are in a league of their own. Anyone agree?
I worship Chris Adler. Lamb Of God is the most underrated and beautiful metal band of all times. And Chris is the most calm, focused and professional drummer i've ever seen. Finally someone mentions it! LOG forever!!!
FUCK! How could I forget DANNY WALKER?????? :o Ok, maybe Danny should be in my top-10 instead of Sid Falck, whom I included mainly because (with Van Williams) is one hell of an underrated drummer.
I see your point and no doubt that Hakke is way better than Ulrich in technicality, and even tho that Lars is very much hated, he is way more influential and not to mention way more successful than a lot of these guys in this list
Daney Carey or Brann Dailor should be #1 lars is garbage. Its like on the other list they had Ringo Starr FFS. I have no issue with Dave Lombardo being #1 though.
I used to think Joey Jordinson was over blown till I heard the live album where he is easily heard in the mix. Wow, that dude has no chill when it comes to his art. I saw many live videos if Dave Lombardo... he deserves #1 spot holy shit he is good
I stopped at #8. I would have continued watching if Danny was at least at the 3rd rank even though he deserves to be #1. mybe Danny's works are too complex for the small minds of these judges.
First of all....Lars isn't on ANY drummer's top list. TH-cam is filled with videos of his mistakes. Scott Travis of Judas Priest for the last 30 years, created one of the most iconic metal intros of ALL TIME in Painkiller. Scott should have been top 5...not LEFT OFF ENTIRELY.
true story man -> Scott Travis , Chris Adler & George Kollias should have made the list and wtf no mention to Vinnie Paul Abbot from pantera.... Pantea had one of the most distinct groovie metal sounds ever, with that being said Vinnie should have been in the top 10
Frank Saunders thank you. I saw as interview that James Hatfield says Lars is not a good drummer just works for Metallica. In Dream Theater drummer audition it obviously shows how far he is from being a good ( and not even professional ) drummer, and he's still a part of Metallica bcs he's a good businessman and not a good drummer and also a main member.....
Okay 3 things. 1. Glad to see Lombardo #1. He is a fucking beast. 2. Joey Jordison needs to be way higher on this list 3. Where in the hell is Nick Menza?
Bro are you kidding? Jimmy and Joey should be top three. Rev’s solo in the Beast and the Harlot is absolutely insane and Almost Easy is incredible, and Joey is just Joey and he’s amazing
Definitely would have put The Rev, Joey, and Mike Portnoy up on the list ... hell Portnoy finished the Nightmare Album for A7X after The Rev passed away
I normally don't complain, but not including Zeppelin for being "classic," but Van Halen and Iron Maiden aren't? Not to mention this is just a list of mainstream drummers. Ben Coller from Converge, Billy Rymer from The Dillinger Escape Plan, Matt Greiner from August Burns Red, Fransesco Paoli from Fleshgod Apocalypse, fkn George Kollias from Nike. Go look up any of these guys and you'll rewrite this whole list.
Or they'll keep it the same, cuz this list has very little to do with technicality, and more to do with "how old is a band, and are/ were they popular?".
Better list: #10: Nick Menza (Megadeth) #9: Joey Jordison (Slipknot) #8: Vinnie Paul (Pantera) #7: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) #6: Dave Holland (Judas Priest) #5: Danny Carey (Tool) #4: Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) #3: Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe) #2: Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) #1: Dave Lombardo (Slayer) Honorable mentions: Chris Adler (Lamb of God) Scott Travis (Judas Priest) Tomas Haake (Meshuggah) Matt Sorum (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver) Clive Burr (Iron Maiden) David Silveria (Korn) Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath) John Dolmayan (System of a Down) Charlie Benante (Anthrax)
*Better list But Portnoy And Carey Should be higher. *Thomas Haake Should In The Top. *Scott Travis replace Dave Holland. *Tommy Lee Should be low. * And replace Clive Burr With Mario Duplantier
+xN1nJAzZ by far, i know most of metal fans wouldnt say danny should be number 1 but i must say, he is one of tthe only musicians (not just drummers) that made me see and feel music in my vanes, not just fast cool drumming and insane skills when playing, but INSANE connection between music and life and the beautiful side of that connection, it goes beyond description and i know that EVERY TRUE METAL FAN has expierienced that. danny is by far the only drummer that can make drumms be alive and not just seeing like an instrument, thats the purpose of music, not just metal, thats why he should be #1 i agree ;) (go listen to dannys Parabola solo...its just beautiful and full of energy you will feel it, trust me)
Larz at number 3 😂😂. I was feeling it coming actually. There are very few people out there that can discern talent and high technique vs banging away I don’t agree with your list and the positioning. Drumming you want to hear dynamics soft and loud not all loud, you want to see and hear doubles , flams , mixed sticking , being used to give the music more Color and flare. You want an drummer that can hold a series of solid ostenatos and have independence to express and comp. There are few out there at possess all these. But one must listen to a wide range of music and hear the differences
@@nem5217 As we know it now, it wouldn't be. But even if Sabbath never existed, I'm sure it would have evolved into a genre sooner or later. But what a hell of a way to start a genre, with song as heavy, dark and sinister as the self titled Black Sabbath song.

+papavalesRS fucking for real. It's like everyone completely forgot about saint anger. He's widely regarded as the worst metal drummer ever, and i think he deserves that spot.
+blksbbth d TBH, St Anger isn't half bad if you look at it rationally, the song structure, and the flow of the album are fine, and even the performances on it are decent, the only thing that makes it horrible is the mixing. The snare sound makes your brain go soft, and the whole album is mixed very loud, sacrificing much of the dynamics of many of the instruments. And it's not like the mixing was a strong suit of Metallica in the earlier albums, just look at And justice for all.

And Thomas Haake was only an honorable mention. What an insult lmao
Top 10 ways to piss people off!
Chris Adler is just an "honorable mention"....this is very close to blasphemy.
+ChrisRyot He's definitely AT LEAST top 5 material
Ha. no its not.
+ChrisRyot YEEEP. if this is a list of 10-1 drummers, Adlers in the negatives buds. In a good way. Probably -8 at least.
+Jafet Violante in my opinion Adler is above jordison. Joey has speed but Adler has his original touch. but in all honesty they could be interchangeable depending on what song your basing it on. Both amazing drummers none the less
+ChrisRyot Nick Menza wasn't even an honorable mention.
10. Tommy Lee-Motley Crue
9. Dave Lombardo-Slayer
8. Jay Weinberg-Slipknot
7. John Dolmayan-System of a Down
6. Joey jordison-Slipknot
5. Mike Mangini-Dream Theatre
4. Jimmy "the rev" Sullivan- Avenged Sevenfold
3. Danny Carey-Tool
2. Neil Peart-Rush
Honorable Mentions: Chris Adler-Lamb of God, Vinnie Paul-Pantera, Dave Grohl-Nirvana, Chad Smith-Red hot chili Peppers
1. Mike Portnoy-Dream Theatre
This took forever!
Mike Wengren- Disturbed?
Wait wait wait chris adler honourable mention?! He's way fucking better than the fucking rev
Totally agree with your list man!
Caden Ringling I agree with Neil being a god on the kit, but Rush isn't Heavy Metal or hard rock. IMO I would put joey at #2 and thomas haake at #6, with brann dailer instead of tommy lee. Other than that, good list
+Caden Ringling Neil isn't really metal or hard rock. He drums in some hard rock ways but is mostly prog rock so he shouldn't really be in your list.
Real top 10:
10. Lars Ulrich
9-1. Idc but they're all better than Lars.
Lars shouldn't be in the top ten even
@@neelnair4513 nah Lars is that one guy who is good but is always the 10th guy
Idk I feel like Lars always gets a bad rap for no reason. He fucks up tempo and whatnot sometimes but you gotta give him the credit he deserves, he's still a great drummer
@@logan.putnam Agreed 100% without lars metallic would not have made historical songs like For whom the bell tolls, enter sandman, One and much more the hate he gets is ridiculous.
This list only has known drummers and not skilled drummers there are many local bands that has more skills and drummer Carlos Araya is a great example th-cam.com/video/PaY_4315xtI/w-d-xo.html

That's The Trooper not Run To The Hills
Yeah and thats not even Niko McBrian!! Thats Clive Burrs!!!
Alex Van Halen On “Hot For Teacher” True MasterPiece
Huge Metallica fan but lets be honest Lars should not be on this list let alone be ahead of The Rev and Portnoy. Real recognizes real.
Johnny Benton i mean i would say he should be on this list but not above The Rev, Joey nor especially Mike Portnoy
Johnny Benton the rev should be number 2 and Dave MacIntosh number 1 in my opinion
You should be proud, they say Lars knows how to lock in with the guitar. Impressive huh? Pffffft!
Richard Goldman He can't keep up for shit.
Johnny Benton or Carey...
I'm a big Metallica fan, but Lars does not even make top 250. Brann Dailor, Charlie Benante, Tomas Haake, Chris Adler and many others are just much better.
Lars Ulrich isn't even the best drummer in Metallica
@@neeeiiil yes he is idoit
My list:
#10: Vinnie Paul
#9: Joey Jordison
#8: Nick Menza
#7: Mike Portnoy
#6: Gene Hoglan
#5: Nicko McBrain
#4: Scott Travis
#3: Bill Ward
#2: Danny Carey
#1: Dave Lombardo
Honorable mentions:
Tommy Lee
Gar Samuelson
The Rev
Clive Burr
Brann Dailor
Wheres Lars Ulrich XD?
Compleatly agreed
I don't
Feel like joey should be in the top 5
RIP Vinnie!
keeranimal8 RIP
And DIMEBAG 🎸
Joey Jordison:9
Me:leaves video because WatchMojo can’t make a top 10
Thats true
True story. Lars above 7 drummers, including Carey and Portnoy, WatchMojo sucks!
Clearly a drummer didn’t make this list
True
Couldn’t be more right
Danny Carey’s performance on “Ticks & Leeches” was ranked as the #1 drum performance by Rolling Stone! Maynard James Keenan (Tool’s lead singer) actually stands on a platform next to Danny’s kit so he can watch him play! How is Lars Ulrich better?!
Came here for my man Jimmy, RIP the REV your name will live on forever
Danny Carey at #8? That's a joke right?
And how the actual fuck were Brann Dailor and Thomas Hakke not on the actual top 10?
+giantnardman mickey dee should be the best drummer in heavy metal..or maybe he didnt cause he's not from america or england
EvilLadderGaming right this is pathetic
EvilLadderGaming
seriously how the hell that happened I mean just listen to Rosetta stoned
they pick the most classic as the best and not the best skill. If it was skill Danny would be number one. Not even my favorite but no one can play like him.
#8 Danny Carey are you kidding me? More like #1
Decent list.
Danny should've been higher on the list, though.
I agree with you
WAY higher
very much agreed.
Dave Lombardo. THE MAN on the kit with sticks. Pure legend!!!!
epic comment
wtf is lars ulrich doing there?! and at top 3. and joey jordison should be higher, i'm not a slipknot fan, but i admit they have a badass drummer.
Joey got kicked out
+Joel Lokken Joey is still waaaayyyyy better than fucking Lars Ulrich. That guy is a joke.
In 50 years, who will be known more for his music? Hint: not jordison
+LimitIsIllusion OK, he made good music once
LimitIsIllusion What has that to do with actual drumming skills? Metallica isn't famous because of Lars. They thought about kicking him out. On the other side. Joey was a huge part of Slipknots style. Almost no band had drum parts like that backen then.
Tomas Haake as an honorable mention? *facepalm*
Maybe not No1, but i would think at worst No3...
You don't here such innovative and cool rhythms every day.
John Stefanov I feel you, bro. Ridiculous.
John Stefanov Thought exactly the same! ... This guy is absolutely epic!
John Stefanov These guys don't know what they are talking about. We the real drummers know who the best are. This chart is mainstream bullcrap.
You name it bro! *brofist* ;-)
"And Chris is the most calm, focused and professional drummer i've ever seen."
AMEN to that.
The list really should be "Top Ten Drummers Who Aren't Danny Carey".
It's a list for rock and metal drummers only, let's not forget. Or it could become one helluva long list!
FUCK! How could I forget DANNY WALKER?????? :o
Ok, maybe Danny should be in my top-10 instead of Sid Falck, whom I included mainly because (with Van Williams) is one hell of an underrated drummer.
Good to see Vinnie here! My all time favorite drummer
How is TOMAS HAAKE an honorable metion?!?!?! he plays 1 quintillion times better than lars!!! Watchmojo explain yourselves
HOW DARE YOU blaspheme Lars
I see your point and no doubt that Hakke is way better than Ulrich in technicality, and even tho that Lars is very much hated, he is way more influential and not to mention way more successful than a lot of these guys in this list
Tomas should be at the top. I dare ANYONE on that list to play "I"
Alexander Stefanovski it's based on popularity not actually ranking they want to make more people satisfied with being true.
Daney Carey or Brann Dailor should be #1 lars is garbage. Its like on the other list they had Ringo Starr FFS. I have no issue with Dave Lombardo being #1 though.
Lard Ulrich number 3 biggest joke I’ve heard
Cozy Cooke lmao
Yes, that´s right, 1003, is more like it.
The Rev deserves to be in the top 3 and even Vinnie deserves a higher spot than Lars.
Rick Allen of Def Leppard is a million times better than Lars, and he only has one arm
3.rev
2.Vinnie Paul
1.Dave Lombardo
No no no.I respect REV but he is not top3
@@deusvult1938 yes I agree with you, the rev has not deserves in top 3
The rev is the man
The rev, vinne, and especially Joey should be higher on the list
Kyler Curran yes...
The Rev was one of the best drummers to ever live
I guess Brooks Wackerman also made a good drummer for A7X
Rev is my number 1
@Eduardo Gentile not gonna happen
Finally someone is giving Dave Lombardo his due. Fantastic drummer indeed.
THE best

8:07 that's not run to the hills, that's the Trooper
Exactly! =)
Pimpa Licious oh my god
I came down to the comments just to see if someone else spotted that
Isn't it only the most obvious thing, right?
Pimpa Licious And that's mostly not Nicko McBrain this is Clive Burr (RIP)
Figured Tommy Lee might be in there. And Lars even tell you how much he admires Nicko mcbrain. So I think Nicko should have been higher than Lars
You didn't include Zeppelin because they were "classic", but most of this list were "Classic" metal and hard rock drummers...
XD wow I didn't notice that.
Haha yeah! Van Halen popped up and I thought "what?"
I noticed that too
Right, since when is sabath, van Halen and maiden not considered "classic"
BigNick66 I guess van Halen is harder than zepplin somehow
Lars doesn't use a drum kit he uses metal trashcans...
you mean tHrashcans... ahahaha amirite guys? guys?
UGH... why the fuck is Danny number 8 ?!?!
Exactly what I said!!! the best drummer of all time besides Neil Peart IMO
true that! Lars is so off rhythm at times.. I'm surprised he made the list haha
+brandon b He probably paid to be on this list. Or threatened to sue WM is he wasn't included in lol
hahaha - seriously!
+brandon b yeah they lost me with that, Danny Carey is the GOAT.
I used to think Joey Jordinson was over blown till I heard the live album where he is easily heard in the mix. Wow, that dude has no chill when it comes to his art. I saw many live videos if Dave Lombardo... he deserves #1 spot holy shit he is good
Danny Carrey - greatest drummer of all time. Period.
Finally someone understands, like you would expect each place 10-1 would just be a different song played by Danny
Along with Mike Portnoy and Neil Peart.
Someone gets it! I almost puked when I saw Lars?
I diss agree i like The Rev
I stopped at #8. I would have continued watching if Danny was at least at the 3rd rank even though he deserves to be #1. mybe Danny's works are too complex for the small minds of these judges.
First of all....Lars isn't on ANY drummer's top list. TH-cam is filled with videos of his mistakes. Scott Travis of Judas Priest for the last 30 years, created one of the most iconic metal intros of ALL TIME in Painkiller. Scott should have been top 5...not LEFT OFF ENTIRELY.
I agree
true story man -> Scott Travis , Chris Adler & George Kollias should have made the list and wtf no mention to Vinnie Paul Abbot from pantera.... Pantea had one of the most distinct groovie metal sounds ever, with that being said Vinnie should have been in the top 10
he was number 10
James Hetfield just learned over the years how to adjust to Lars's insanely varying tempos. Lmao
Thats prog af
Should of just become a prog band with the tempo changes
I tried to play slayer’s angel of death on drums and my arms felt like they were gonna fall off
Nicko McBrain, half the shots are of Clive Burr.
ikr idk how lars is above him on the list tho
+jaocheu you notice Tommy Clufetos rather than Bill Ward as well ?
+LorisBLSbastard I do now........... that solo was a bit good for Bill Ward.
Yep - noticed so myself....
same with Mike Portnoy. They had a couple of shots with Mangini
Okay 3 things.
1. Glad to see Lombardo #1. He is a fucking beast.
2. Joey Jordison needs to be way higher on this list
3. Where in the hell is Nick Menza?
what about George Kollias? he should have made the list too
ShadarSixx Also Gene Hoglan ffs
Good to see some love for Menza!
Lars should of been up higher
Gar samuelson
Tomas Haake from Meshuggah. Enough said.
I would love to see Tool try to play a one of his songs. Polyrhythmic king my ass.
Jake Draper right???
When she says "We are not going to include bands like Led Zeppelin.... "I think you all know who the best drummer is 😎😎.
😎😎💪💪bonzo
Not really the greatest of all time
wow, who did this list, Brittney Spears??
Where's Nick Menza? Should definitely be put ahead of lars
yea I agree, I honestly expected him at #1 because he wasn't anywhere else on the list.
personally i think he should of been #1 and yes, i would move dave to #2 to put nick there...
Watch Mojo: "Number four, Nicko Mcbrain." *shows video of Clive Burr
Me: *leaves video in rage* 7:12
I thought i was the only one who noticed
@@lunahetfield Lol any Maiden fan would notice right away
TRUTH
Seems like it to me. There are some ungodly talented musicians in the world who just don't play the right kind of music to be considered "the best."
The fans picked them not mojo.
VriskNight _ mojo didn't really have to use the fans. They could just consult the people at their "office".
Devonshire Pee but they don't. Blame the fans not mojo. Your people did these not them.
The rev and Joey are both better than Lars. TBH I would have Vinnie Paul over Lars any day.
Vinnie is a god at drums tbh. 13 steps to nowhere, played by Vinnie on an AK47, rather than drums lol.
The Rev all the way
QuadThreat Gaming yes jeoy is so much better
QuadThreat Gaming true
Lars has no business ahead of Nicko to be sure, or anyone else on this list. Just because he's a world class doosh canoe if nothing else.

Love this comment...
Sam Y Danny's the shit! Hands down
He's great but idk 1
+xN1nJAzZ by far, i know most of metal fans wouldnt say danny should be number 1 but i must say, he is one of tthe only musicians (not just drummers) that made me see and feel music in my vanes, not just fast cool drumming and insane skills when playing, but INSANE connection between music and life and the beautiful side of that connection, it goes beyond description and i know that EVERY TRUE METAL FAN has expierienced that.
danny is by far the only drummer that can make drumms be alive and not just seeing like an instrument, thats the purpose of music, not just metal, thats why he should be #1 i agree ;) (go listen to dannys Parabola solo...its just beautiful and full of energy you will feel it, trust me)
+Nisemekut Mk this comment x100. Everybody needs to check out danny, if you havent by now.
Larz at number 3 😂😂. I was feeling it coming actually. There are very few people out there that can discern talent and high technique vs banging away
I don’t agree with your list and the positioning. Drumming you want to hear dynamics soft and loud not all loud, you want to see and hear doubles , flams , mixed sticking , being used to give the music more
Color and flare. You want an drummer that can hold a series of solid ostenatos and have independence to express and comp. There are few out there at possess all these. But one must listen to a wide range of music and hear the differences
Lars 3. Jordinson 9. WTF. Lars can play the drums good. I don' now that
Joey filled in for lars once and I have to say, it was the best performance lars ever did.
Black Sabbath wouldn't be the same without Bill Ward
Metal music wouldn’t even be here without Black Sabbath
@@nem5217 As we know it now, it wouldn't be. But even if Sabbath never existed, I'm sure it would have evolved into a genre sooner or later. But what a hell of a way to start a genre, with song as heavy, dark and sinister as the self titled Black Sabbath song.

BenjaminCamelot exactly what I thought
Lars Ulrich lol!!! Is this video about drummer's popularity or skills?
agree
+Luca de Clippelaar lol of course i play drums, and i respect lars because i made my first steps with some easy metallica drumming.
Some people probebly find it annoying when other people saying "why the fuck is this guy on here he sucks" when in realality those people who say that probebly never picked up a drumstick in their lives
Lars Ulrich on 3, that is not going to cause any debate.
Jimmy aka the “Rev” best drummer alive RiP
Best Drummer alive is a poor choice of words
I think ‘best drummer alive’ was a poor choice of words. Other than that, totally agree.
