That’s what I love about Optimus Primes character, despite any and all circumstances, no matter how hard the situation is, he chooses to not only stay optimistic, but most importantly humble and gentle with not just his fellow comrades, but even his enemies, and we have seen this time and time again in shows, comics, and finally a great new movie! I think that’s what makes us all gravitate towards Optimus, his ability to be strong while still being compassionate and maintaining humility is what we all want to strive to be, to not let anger or bitterness win over us, and to not let ego and power take the best of us, he truly is a timeless character.
Except in the Bayverse but that was awful and doesn’t count. Optimus Prime isn’t in it. Instead there’s this giant metal psychopath who is using his name and I can only assume wearing his face.
I think Optimus’ more lenient attitude is perfect for this movie, solely because he’s so young. He’s less than 50 cycles old during this movie. He probably hoped that after calming down, Megatron would come to his senses. His naivety didn’t let him see what Megatron would become, and to be fair, Megatron stewing in his rage until he becomes such an insane monster that he would gladly drive Cybertron to the total death of the planet itself couldn’t really be predicted by any rational being.
I think a lot of transformers fans who came up after g1, they aren't familiar with how the original optimus had a much lighter fun personality. Yes he would be laser focused and serious when shit went down, bitbout side of battle, he was often a light-hearted fatherly figure who was always dropping dad jokes 😅 Later iterations of the figure, especially in Western depictions, became more and more serious until it really hit an extreme during the bayverse. I love this orion/ optimus for his more relatable personality
Completely agreed with all you’ve said, One is definitely one of my top five incarnations of Prime, along with G1 who’s still such an amazing character to this day
What a masterfully made video. Such a joy listening to your opinions and insights on the characters. My Orion Video has been put on hold due to Paramounts Copyright Claims, but it’s so great to see others talking about his character and the growth he experiences in the film 💙
I’m curious to see if they can expand on this “act now, think later” idea. Cause what happens to the Allspark in other continuities I think can really show case this. The guilt Prime feels after this act really shows him learning as leader.
Chris Hemsworth was surprisingly excellent as Optimus Prime, and it really shocked me how much range he has as an actor/voice actor, as he sounded like a young Peter Cullen. I especially love his characterisation as it made more sense to make him this more rambunctious, hot-headed guy who's so ambitious to prove himself and make things better albeit at the expense of getting himself and others like D-16 into trouble. I liked how they chose to have him mature and growing up to understand his responsibilities and how his actions have consequences, as juxtaposes with D-16's downfall. Honestly I just loved that they chose to make Orion the extroverted reckless go-getter, and make D-16 the introverted simple hard worker who believed in the system but both still cared for eachother as friends. That scene where Orion inspires the miners to fight back against Sentinel was so empowering because it really shows what kind of person Orion is I love the detail of Orion kneeling down at the miners' level because, unlike Sentinel, he was one of them and saw all of them as friends and family and inspiring all of them like a good father figure, which is everything Optimus Prime should be, a noble, hopeful, brave leader who's never afraid to be gentle or compassionate to others.
I think Orion see the future, he has a vision. D16 do not, he wants to burn it all, Orion when it comes to the the big picture he knows when to be mesured, Orion wants to rebuild Cybertron with justice and not an execution.
When i first saw the trailers I was dreading heavily to watch another idiot hero that bumbles his way to victory and completely neglect the rest of his friends; and then by the end of the movie learn something about humility or something. Like don't get me wrong, I do enjoy when it works but sometimes it gets a little stale and I also had a very hard time trying to imagine this Orion Pax ever becoming the Optimus Prime that everyone knows and loves. To my pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed Orion Pax in this movie, he was just as reckless and impulsive as I thought he'd be but he was also incredibly selfless and understanding and if someone needed help, he'd be the first one to jump in and save them. Even his rebellious attitude that I thought would have been grating, had me endeared to him so quickly because even from the first scene where he breaks into the archives, is done with purely altruistic intent because he wants to help Sentinel and the other cogless miners. He rebels because he always had a feeling that the system he lived under was corrupt, so why should he force himself to follow their stupid rules? He doesn't even want the glory of saving Cybertron, he has to use that motive to get D-16 along but Orion himself, doesn't give any inclination that that's what he wants;( personally I think he's been trying so doggedly trying to find the matrix is because he just wants to be free to choose what he can do in his life once he doesn't need to be a miner anymore). I also very much appreciated that if something was ever genuinely his fault, he'd always try and take responsibility for it, like with Elita and the Iacon 5000. And the movie itself, also doesn't let him off the hook for being more than a little bit innocently insensitive when it came to D-16's well being, with him realizing too late that he was slowly losing his friend due to his past actions retroactively straining their relationship. I think my favorite part about him is that he has no delusions about being invincible, he knows that he *needs* other people to help him in situations that are too tough for him to face alone and he genuinely cares about each and everyone of his friends and tries to always support them into becoming their best possible versions of themselves. I think it's best seen in that the climax of his character arc is of him convincing everyone to rebel against Sentinel's forces and take back their own destiny, even if they don't have cogs, because he believes in their full potential to change the world for the better, just like Alpha Trion had told him, continuing the chain of hope for a better future. He's just a wonderfully strong and kind character in this movie and I'm so obsessed with him and his character arc and it makes me a little sad to see that it doesn't get the same recognition as D-16's (understandably much more interesting at face value) arc. Anyways, I love him, and I really hope we get a sequel so I can keep yapping about him
Ah, so that's another reason why I gravitate more towards D-16 than Orion. Orion "acts now, thinks later", whereas D thinks before acting, and so do I (sometimes even overthinking). Unless I'm in a bad mood or riled up, that's when I can do or say something that I will most certainly regret doing once I've calmed down.
Optimus Prime and Captain America (and maybe Superman) are the kind of superheroes I like. The American colored (red and blue) hero who’s an honorable great leader that fights for freedom no matter how much politics are trying to challenge their ideology and they are willing to kill their enemies when necessary.
after watching TF One I still wanted more Transformers, so I finally watched Rise of Beasts. It was pretty decent, the Optimus that we see in RoB is a bit of a jerk but its interesting to see how he comes around to trusting humans. also for other ideas - I'd love to know what other Transformers shows you'd recommend!
I think going back to g1, " hang on to your dreams chip, the future is built on dreams". Pax and prime are both moral snd upstanding people. In tf 1 hes a bit more impulsive. A well intending meathead. D16 is a bit emo snd brooding. Im wondering if your a film student or psych major? Just a vibe im getting

@@scibus2593 That’s why his iconic line was “Give me your face!”

No one can forget the "booby trap for boobies" line.
I like to think that Serious Optimus is Orion Pax's customer service persona.

Loved your video on D-16, but I'm so sorry Paramount screwed you over like that. Hopefully they won't get you like that again in the future.
I’m curious to see if they can expand on this “act now, think later” idea. Cause what happens to the Allspark in other continuities I think can really show case this. The guilt Prime feels after this act really shows him learning as leader.
The AllSpark doesn’t seem to exist in this continuity because the matrix supplies Energon to Cybertron but I see your overall point
Best transformers movie easily for me. Both Orion and D16’s arcs felt earned fr hopefully they make more movies like this.

I'm pretty sure later on prime will question his own worthiness as a prime

Orion really feels like hot rod in this movie
Proof that Hot Rod can really work and deserves another chance at the starring role

Always happy to see an Transformer analysis that talks about the characters and story.
New sub !! 🤝
As a suggestion, it would be interesting if you do an analysis on Elita-1
after watching TF One I still wanted more Transformers, so I finally watched Rise of Beasts. It was pretty decent, the Optimus that we see in RoB is a bit of a jerk but its interesting to see how he comes around to trusting humans.
also for other ideas - I'd love to know what other Transformers shows you'd recommend!
I actually found D16s character arc more interesting and relatable.
great video. hope to see more of you.
love you, love this take, love seeing more women be excited for Transformers

Were you a long time fan or maybe new fan since the movie or bay verse? Just wondering
