Missed you boes. I started down a dark path of watching Artosis baby rage clips, and while it's funny, it's nice to watch a game where I don't have to explain why the man is so angry all the time to people around me.
2 things: 1) I really like that you explain the hidden mechanics of what you're doing every video. Even if it's repetitive for long time viewers I still learn a lot (and I have 2000 hours of Civ 6 on steam). So thank you for that! 2) Civ 7 desperately needs better city state diplo options. Why can the AI declare war on my suiz without triggering a war with me? Why can't I make the AI stop attacking, either through asking for a promise or trading them (like how you can pay an AI to join your war). It's by far the most frustrating part of the game and I hope Civ 7 adds much more robust diplo options in general.
Yeah, even though the city-states weren't GREAT in Civ 5, i really miss the interactions you had with them; even the most simple one of gifting units to them.
I couldn't agree more about the lack of diplo options for city states. I'd even be interested in more Spy options too like convince a surprise attack or something. Sucks you can only declare war after they've been conquered. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Technically it isn't _every_ adjacency. It only applies to Theater Squares and the wonders. When I read it the first time I was assuming you could also get tourism from Commercial Hubs with Gilden Vault and improvements with adjacency bonuses that normally don't pop till flight like Moai. Ludwig is pretty broken, but most of the lift was still done by the relics. Without Ludwig it would've still been a low 100s victory.
This would apply to Gilded Vault too which gives Culture adjacency equal to Gold adjacency of the Commercial Hub. Also there's the religious belief that gives culture adjacency equal to holy site faith adjacency. And then, if you're suzerain of Nan Madol then all districts adjacent to coast or lake get +2 culture adjacency as well.
Just for reference, it wasn’t until turn 68 (about 26:40) where Ludwig’s ability started to give tourism. At that point, the184 tourism was purely from the early Kandy + Voidborn start, which anyone can do.

I believe that with a custom map and optimized run (Kandy early + all tribal huts with relics + many trade routes and hero’s, some warfare, all that jazz) can make a sub 60 run
My first game was as Cleo and I won turn 437 lmao, I think I turned off a lot of the win conditions and I didn’t know how to settle new cities for 150 turns
I just started a game as Ludwig and won a culture victory literally an hour later. I was just on auto-pilot the entire time and did no planning at all. This civ is so busted. Also GG on the turn 88, very well done.
Interestingly enough, the lynchpin of the entire run is the bonus population from the tribal village on turn 10. I downloaded the turn 1 save and for some reason can't get the huts to give me the same rewards. Without that extra population, can't get to early empire and get Magnus established as fast and it slows the settler and builder down. The entire run is drastically different without that, I can't even get close to replicating it. Really shows the impact of how early bonuses snowball.
Just because I noticed. The quick deals mod, if you put more than what the AI is willing to buy of a resource, if you click accept on the right, it will just sell the maximum it was willing to take.

When even I got a tourism victory on turn 138 I knew immediateley that sub 100 would be possible. Thanks for the video, very cool to see it played out.
The culture agency from Guilded Vault when you go Owls would also be a good way to generate some of that sweet sweet culture agency tourism. But that likely wouldn't have helped here as you probably wouldn't have gotten those banks up in time. Impressive, sir.
That doesn’t actually give you tourism as far as I could tell. Even though Ludwig’s ability says all culture adjacencies, it’s actually only district adjacencies (wonders are treated as districts in the code). So it doesn’t apply to the Guilded Vault, which is a building, and also not to improvements like the Moai or Batey.

You need a computer. A 2018 MacBook, a 400 dollar setup on windows with a cheap graphics card or a used PC. This game doesn’t take a ton to run unless you rock the highest settings which doesn’t make a difference.
i think to balance ludwig they should make some sort of downside to placing unfinished wonders, like they drain amenities or something. after all, ludwig was killed because of his wild construction projects
It is impressive but I don't know how much of the win is actually coming from Ludwig's ability. It feels like Kandy and reliquaries did the most of the job.
The stackable no-cost monuments you get for unlocking techs you were already going to get anyway is utterly massive for accelerating your policy unlocks and governor titles. Going from 1.6 to 5.8 culture per turn in the space of 7 turns (the time between Pottery for G.Bath and a boosted Astronomy for Stonehenge) for zero production is bonkers in its own right, but the faith gen from ReliqKandy turbocharged Monmentality alongside two of the best heroes, breaking the game wide open. Would like to see a Kandy-less run, for scale so to speak.
Also keep in mind that it’s the difference between tourism and culture that matters, like with food. Relic tourism can be barely more so there’s a chance you win before people get enlightenment but doubling that tourism would be +30 vs +230. That’s huge

I never realized how strong diplo league was until I compared it to the +2 favor. When you do make use of diplo league, it is the equivalent of generating envoys 100% faster, compared to the +2 generating roughly 40% more envoys early.
Well done! It wasn't a regular game though, getting Kandy and two free cities (and about to get a third) plus the deadly void singers-heroes combo. Try playing Ludwig without any of these boosts on a map where there are at least two continents.

Can you do a vid explaining/testing what makes scouts worth it? I almost always go double scout, but there is a certain content creator that rages against scouts and “proved” they weren’t worth it. I’d like your more in depth thoughts if possible. Great vid as always!
I think that just highly depends on what you want to do and what civ you're playing. Boes is going for a culture win and classical era golden age, and for that you need to go double scout opener. You can get away with one scout if you struggle with barbarians, but double scout is usually a good bet to reveal most of the map and will ensure you get a lot of goodie huts etc.

Here is a challenge for you if you didn't already do it. It is my favorite way to play Frederick Germany and might just make him equal to Ludwig. Just found the capitol, then every other city has to be a conquered city state. I bet you could do this on deity and enjoy every minute. I always figured this was the way to play Germany.

Amazing work as usual man! Don't know if you'd be interested but doing a huge map with new Mali and rushing Moksha and Reyna (probably still go Pingala first) and using his ability to rush down the culture tree/recruit great people and trying a domination game sounds fun. On paper sounds good to me but could possibly see accidental culture victory from all the great works but never know til you try!
Next step, culture victory in Ancient Era. The whole caveman world united by their love of big buildings, most of which never actually got fully built.
Well, most of the broken stuff here resulted from game modes (with help from Kandy and Reliquaries), but Ludwig sure as hell has the kick to push the culture and tourism minmaxing over the edge.
Hey Bose. Golden Age Monumentality let's you buy ANY civilian unit with faith, including Archaeologists. The 30% discount only applies to builders and settlers though. Edit: Have not confirmed if Traders can be bought with faith.

I think you're correct to play with heroes and secret societies. I tried to make this work so many times with just vanilla settings but with no heroes etc., but since you are just building wonders the tempo is really bad especially without any other innate building bonuses.
I mean, Ludwig II never finished Neuschwanstein Castle, which is probably the inspiration of his ability. If you ever visit that part of Germany, you got to go see it in person. It is gorgeous.
Very interesting but also very circumstantial without Kandy spawning in or not finding them until after you had found more of the natural wonders I guess it would have taken a hell of a lot more turns.
City centres are districts! Feel like such a doofus forgetting that and wasting a weekend trying to make all this work and just ending up with a lot of great scientists...

When you have Maus and you use a great engineer with the additional maus charge (e.g. Da Vinci) and it has 1 charge left, AND your Mauseleum floods because of global warming, the engineer has zero charges and can only walk around with zero purpose in life
How were you able to suzerain Kandy on turn 10? I'd think this would require first meeter bonus + completing a quest + envoy from a tribal village? Is there some other way to get envoys/suzerain I don't know about?
Does the +2 culture bonus to every district (including city center) next to coast that Nan Midol provides give tourism to Ludwig as well? If so, playing him with that suzereinity is uber-broken.
@@boesthius That's sick. Beyond sick - Play Owls and spam cities 4 tiles apart along the coast. City/CH/HB triangles for some adjacency economy and HUGE 2 TR per city economy, enough culture for civic progression by itself (6 culture/city), most importantly 6 tourism per city. Play it like Mansa and just use the economy to get all the meta-game stuff you need. Then disregard normal campus, holy site adjacency and put em on the coast to up it to 10 tourism per city. Possible to win tourism victory wonder-less, theater-less, gimmick-less (relics/colossal head/moai/etc.) all before even meeting all civs. Edit: Forgot that he gets an extra district over pop - Holy synergy! I guess add some encampments as well

Hey Boes congrats great game! One suggestion tho and that is to use the same UI mod that Potato uses which shows amenities in city in the top bar and spies etc. it's not a requirement obv but it'd be nice info to have without having to rely on you to check those specific things

I never realized how strong diplo league was until I compared it to the +2 favor. When you do make use of diplo league, it is the equivalent of generating envoys 100% faster, compared to the +2 generating roughly 40% more envoys early.
Yeah it's pretty insane, even early game there's almost no point running Charismatic Leader because of that

Well done! It wasn't a regular game though, getting Kandy and two free cities (and about to get a third) plus the deadly void singers-heroes combo. Try playing Ludwig without any of these boosts on a map where there are at least two continents.

Can you do a vid explaining/testing what makes scouts worth it? I almost always go double scout, but there is a certain content creator that rages against scouts and “proved” they weren’t worth it. I’d like your more in depth thoughts if possible. Great vid as always!

I think that just highly depends on what you want to do and what civ you're playing. Boes is going for a culture win and classical era golden age, and for that you need to go double scout opener. You can get away with one scout if you struggle with barbarians, but double scout is usually a good bet to reveal most of the map and will ensure you get a lot of goodie huts etc.

Here is a challenge for you if you didn't already do it. It is my favorite way to play Frederick Germany and might just make him equal to Ludwig. Just found the capitol, then every other city has to be a conquered city state. I bet you could do this on deity and enjoy every minute. I always figured this was the way to play Germany.

This kinda feels like it defeats the purpose of the challenge jn using Ludwig’s ability’s because majority of the tourism came from relics which any civ can do
Scouts are good for the first golden age. If you want a dark age intentionally to get a heroic age the era after then you don't go scouts.
Nice sub t-100 win but Ludwigs ability didnt do much compared to the usual reliquaries\voidsinger ridiculous OPness. Feels like any leader would have worked here.
Amazing work as usual man! Don't know if you'd be interested but doing a huge map with new Mali and rushing Moksha and Reyna (probably still go Pingala first) and using his ability to rush down the culture tree/recruit great people and trying a domination game sounds fun. On paper sounds good to me but could possibly see accidental culture victory from all the great works but never know til you try!

Well, most of the broken stuff here resulted from game modes (with help from Kandy and Reliquaries), but Ludwig sure as hell has the kick to push the culture and tourism minmaxing over the edge.

Hey Bose. Golden Age Monumentality let's you buy ANY civilian unit with faith, including Archaeologists. The 30% discount only applies to builders and settlers though.
Edit: Have not confirmed if Traders can be bought with faith.

For example if I build two districts adjecent to lets say cultural district, will it still get +1 culture? Thanks in advance.

I think you're correct to play with heroes and secret societies. I tried to make this work so many times with just vanilla settings but with no heroes etc., but since you are just building wonders the tempo is really bad especially without any other innate building bonuses.

btw fun little fact about mausileum which happened to me a few weeks back. When you have Maus and you use a great engineer with the additional maus charge (e.g. Da Vinci) and it has 1 charge left, AND your Mauseleum floods because of global warming, the engineer has zero charges and can only walk around with zero purpose in life
Why would you not just use the 2nd charge from DaVvinci for a total of 6 culture per workshop?

How were you able to suzerain Kandy on turn 10? I'd think this would require first meeter bonus + completing a quest + envoy from a tribal village? Is there some other way to get envoys/suzerain I don't know about?

Does the +2 culture bonus to every district (including city center) next to coast that Nan Midol provides give tourism to Ludwig as well? If so, playing him with that suzereinity is uber-broken.

@@boesthius That's sick. Beyond sick - Play Owls and spam cities 4 tiles apart along the coast. City/CH/HB triangles for some adjacency economy and HUGE 2 TR per city economy, enough culture for civic progression by itself (6 culture/city), most importantly 6 tourism per city. Play it like Mansa and just use the economy to get all the meta-game stuff you need. Then disregard normal campus, holy site adjacency and put em on the coast to up it to 10 tourism per city. Possible to win tourism victory wonder-less, theater-less, gimmick-less (relics/colossal head/moai/etc.) all before even meeting all civs. Edit: Forgot that he gets an extra district over pop - Holy synergy! I guess add some encampments as well
