Rush Reaction Videos, I know, you just can’t get enough. I can’t say I am totally surprised at the selections, and realization of the greatness of this band, we will see, but probably never hear these two songs on the radio; for a reason that only true RUSH fans will never understand, and then completely understand. These songs are true RUSH; relax and enjoy. And see if you can keep up with their time signature changes. Just guts, and dealing with an industry that is focused on 3 minute songs that you’d forget the day you get to work; are they playing in your car, probably not. And here’s my reaction comment. How to tell a true RUSH fan from a wanna be? If your first song selection is comprised of and off their Permanent Waves album; both are Jacobs Ladder 'and' Natural Science. I’ve played guitar since age 7, now 22. First let me say rush is my favorite band. Thank you for enjoying their music as well and putting it out there for people to see. Second I can assure you, nothing about playing rush is easy, especially live. The guys may make it look easy and fun, but they are all playing their asses off, and it’s a challenge each and every time to get those parts right live. I’ve read some of Neil’s books and he always states how playing at his best takes intense mental and physical concentration/ endurance. It was never easy for him. Geddy is playing super complex bass parts while using foot pedals to trigger the synth effects in the background. He also sings, and plays keys during parts with no bass. And sometimes all at the same time… As for Alex’s parts, I can attest, I’ve been playing them for 10+ years and they are a fun challenge each time to nail 100%. He is a criminally underrated guitar player. Very complex riffs and chords, along with amazing melodic flow.
Jacobs Ladder is an epic song, especially live. There’s just no way to reprise the mammoth base tones of Geggy’s bad and pedals over a stereo or head phones. Odd time percussion at its best!
They might make it look easy on stage, but my impression is that it was never easy for them. If you watch the documentary, read about these guys, or just listen to the lyrics, it was never just pure talent or gifts. They wanted to be as great as they could possibly be - on their own terms, with the music that inspired them. They devoted the hours and passion to make it happen.
One thing you will discover about Neil is that he is not repetitive. What I mean is that, yes he is keeping time repetitively, but he makes little changes in what exactly he plays. Give a listen to the part around 5:50 where he comes back in after that slower, mellower part, and just follow what he plays. The beat stays the same, but he changes patterns on kick, snare, cymbals, high hat, toms, et cetera, constantly, while maintaining a perfect beat.
only and i mean only rush could pull off a song about clouds and make it thought provoking and epic neil was always interpreting the natural world in his lyrics I'd like to think he was fascinated and humbled by all things great and small

You were picking up on the drum rhythms which are actually very complex in this song ... percussive note phrases of 7 then 8 at the start, also some snare work that sounds like a military band. It's an amazing composition musically and rhythmically. There is a guy who plays drums to this track and it's amazing to watch what is actually going on with the drums. I'm a guitarist by btw so it's not often I am blown away by the drums in a song

Thank you for covering this one, it is one of their greatest gems but it is too often overlooked. Another outstanding Rush track that deserves much more attention is Circumstances from Hemispheres, I just love the jagged complex rhythm, the hard crunch and those startling wide intervals in the melody, there is no other song like it. you should check it out.
My favorite band. This trio imho was a combination of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Yes that came a little before them and a mixture of Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Queensryche that came after them. But Rush surpassed all of those bands that influenced them and better than those who they influenced. There will never be another band quite like this little Canadian trio. Back when I was young shit like this really took me on a journey and blew my mind when I was toking.

The first time I saw Rush at Red Rocks the weather forecast was for rain and possible storms. Folks and fellow fans... I love you all and wish you could have been there. The rain passed over and hit the southern Denver area with bolts of lightning during the boys playing 2112. I'm not making this up! The bolts of lightning coincided with the song. Geggy, Alex and Neil were probably wondering why the crowd was so eruputing at times - for the band was facing west and the storm was behind them. Big bolts of lightning! Big. And while they were playing 2112. Honestly, most of my concert memories fade into cotton memories, but that one... THAT one, will always be epic in my mind. Rush was always about nature, and to have that happen at a Rush concert, and at Red Rocks outdoors... damn. Bolts of lightning from the sky at the perfect time during 2112 as if it was pre-planned like a 4th of July show...
A song about a thunderstorm. What is not to love? I have lived through many supercell thunderstorms in kansas, and this song captures that. It is crazy, scary, dark and light. You never know what's coming next, just like this song.
Just wait till you get into their newer stuff…their last studio album is amazing, it’s their only true start to finish concept album….so much personal meaning, especially the last song written by Neil Peart and recorded by the band, The Garden. They could not have ended with any other record than that one

I'm very happy to see you and other younger folks discovering and getting into Rush and at the same time sad that you'll never get to see them live. There was nothing that could compare. My only issue with what you said is that they very much DID work hard. For example, Neil's warmup before every show was about 2/3 as long as the show itself. The other two had similar habits. But it does sometimes look easy on stage. Anyhow, great song, great reaction.

We need to bring back musicianship into todays music that made the 60’s , 70’s & even the 80’s . We also need bands to invent new music instead of copying and pasting!! Keep up the great reviews.
They were one of the hardest working bands at the time. The drummer Neil PEART RIP, wrote 99.99 PERCENT of ALL the lyrics. All but 1 song lol... brilliant man

Great reaction. Watch the live version from their last tour they did in 2015, the R40 gig. Three over talented guys smashing it in their early 60's. Awesome.
Loved the video towards the end of the song where you can see Jacob's Ladder appearing through the storm clouds and beaming down to the earth. You should react to "The Camera Eye" by Rush next.
This song is what inspired me to take up photography! To have the privilege to see them play it live, with the video background and lasers was a moving experience. 💙🤘🏼✌️
Love your enthusiasm but then again Rush do that to people especially when hearing them for the first time hell even after multiole listenings.Theres always something going on in the background too.Agree Natutal Science and also The Camera Eye are the natiral follow up to Jacobs Ladder both excellent.Two of their deeper songs that rarely get a mention but are both mini masterpieces with great musicianship and lyrics are the beautiful bluesy Here Again it has a great vibe and wonderful solo at the end its from the 1st album and Losing It from Signals.The lyrics are brilliant thought provoking and what a sound with those violins and that middle solo.It would be great if you could find time fot these man.Cheers.
