    Spectacular video. I was sold one of these second hand and immediately had overheating issues. Your video is very helpful, and when I took the drum out I saw the vent was actually ripped completely open and caked the entire thing in lint. Your video was very helpful to me. My GE dryer was taking longer and longer to dry clothes, so I checked down below the lint screen and there was gobs of lint built up outside the fan motor. My model was slightly different from yours, but the basic disassembly was the same. I took the drum out and used my shop vac to get the lint out of the rear. After cleaning it, I got it put back together and it's working great! Thanks again!

    Thanks for making this video. I am not experiencing any issues. We always clean out our lint trap, and I have a second one in my vent pipe. I was cleaning this the other day and then figured I should make sure the dryer is clean.
    I searched and found your video. Which was great! I didn't know about the area at the back of the drum, I plan to clean this now.
    I don't have compressed air, but I will pull the drum out and use my ShoVac to remove as much as possible.

    This is a great video. Talk about thorough! I didn't go as far as taking the dryer apart though. I was able to tape a flexible tube (actually one of those children's toys that makes noise when you spin it), and suck out the lint below the filter. I agitated the lint with a paint stir stick so it would loosen and get sucked up.
    I couldn't clean the fan this way, but I think I definitely got the majority of the lint out. I was able to get the lint out of the back of the drum by simply using the vacuum wand touching the holes. Just stick a thin cylindrical object in there to agitate the lint, and it will free up and get sucked up (I used the end of a thin artist's brush). I'm sure it's as clean as if I removed the drum.

    • @omgwhatever
      @omgwhatever 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having just followed this video's instructions, I have great doubt you could clean it nearly as well without taking the drum out. I'm sure yours is better than it was, but the lint on mine was so thickly caked, matted, and wedged into the crevices, that it would seem practically impossible to get it by any other means than removal of the drum.

    Love this video! GE dryer bought in April, 2022 had made a really loud thump/or now like a pair of tennis shoes are in the dryer. It is my Mom and Dads dryer (Elderly) so my Dad just doesn't have strenght to do as he once did! So I to try or do it things for them.
    Just so happen yesterday, I found my Mom had washed a load of my Dad's clothes he had picked up peacan's and put them in his pockets. So I found in the washer and of course the dryer vent lint filter, leaves bits, outdoor trash bits of ground and so on. As I looked down into the lint holder, I saw pea's ( he still gardens, plenty of the pocket lint of leaves and pecan trash
    .
    Okay, to my question. I followed your instructions. As I went to take off the front door the drum was already loose. Pulling the door forward, the drum did not do as yours did. The belt was on. Or a red belt was on. By this time, I was flustered and just wanted to get it back the way it went since I knew I needed to know the reason the drum would need me to lift up, Way up and really adjust (it seem to fall forward and to one side). No tilting while taking apart. Reverse putting it back together was "WHEW" ! I had to hold the drum up to get the front panel back on. So I know something isn't correct. GE Model GTD42#ASJ2WW Any suggeston? I mean this dryer is 7 months old. Used by two seniors. Light use or at least never heavy loads. I just moved in to help so I am noticing the things they don't. They hadn't noticed the noise, Loud Noise!
    Thanks for any information.

    Good heads up on the motor pully, been doing this work for over 45 years and up until now it’s always been obvious where the belt rides. Leave it to the Engineers at GE to screw up the design of a part that the belt has to be connected up to by feel ! I recently had to go back on one of these machines after three months and replace the belt AGAIN, i’ll bet I didn’t have the belt strung on the pulley properly, I wish I seen this video yesterday but I’m pretty sure got it right this time, I guess i’ll find out soon !PS, judging from the marks on the drum in your video here it looks like someone had the belt on wrong part of the pully on this machine too !

    Question - based on the symptoms of my dryer it looks like I have a lint clog but on the front of the dryer on the other side of fan. Originally, I pulled the dryer out and vacuumed the lint from the rear of the dryer and did get a good bit of lint out but apparently there's more, so I've been on a quest to try to access the part on the front under my lint trap. I have an old school model (DCSR483EA1WW) that is not digital. It's just a wind-up timer dial kind of GE dryer like the one on your video. I can't find a video on TH-cam or internet for my exact model but the dryer on your video is very similar and the dryer on another video was also very similar. On the other video (not yours), the guy took the door off, and there were 2 screws at the top right inside where the door shuts that he took off. On your video, you didn't have to take door off, and you didn't take any screws out of the top just inside the door. I can't tell if your model even has those 2 screws at the top just inside the door. The problem was I took the door off and then when i went to take the 2 screws at the top out one of them stripped. The other screw I got out, but it was also very hard to crack. My question is does your model have those 2 screws at the top just inside the door? If yours does and your front panel came off, then I may not even have to remove those 2 screws and the door after all to get my front panel off.

    • @morokeiboethia6749

      I did put a brand new dryer vent on the exterior of my house when I cleaned the lint out of the back of dryer and vacuumed the round duct hose out and ran my vacuum wand up the duct connection pipe at the back of the dryer and got some lint out. The dryer seemed to dry ok for about a month then i started noticing my clothes weren't dry and the lint felt wet. So I assume that means the problem is there is a lint build up on the other parts of dryer that my vacuum cant reach. I never dry on high heat and have always used medium heat. Its producing heat and didn't feel too hot but i dont use high heat setting either. Clothes were partially dry so i guess mine is getting some circulation but definitely not drying like it was in the past. My dryer is on an exterior wall and I arranged it so the duct is running straight and out the wall so that shouldn't be the cause but I'll check it again.

    QUESTION: Thanks so much. I followed all of these steps very nicely, found a lot of lint in the blower and the back of the drum, put it all back together and tested it out.. Same problem. It shut off after about 5 minutes, and won't start up again until it cools down. Is it the thermostat or thermistor? or something else? It’s always hard to guess what’s wrong without actually seeing the dryer. But my best guess would be either the fan has come disconnected from the motor or has something stuck against it. This usually happens if the lint filter was not on while the dryer was running. It could also just be a Motor going bad.
      One other thing you could check is if the drum is still spinning while it’s making the noise.
      Good luck

      I have seen some have a little bit of Lent stuck where the filter is supposed to sit. It will make this filter not quite get all the way in to place. The filter will slightly be sitting up and allowing unfiltered air flow around the edge of the filter. Check that also check the filter itself for a hole.

      @WasherDryerMoney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely don’t keep running it if it is getting hot. Unplug it and see if it’s clogged up. That’s 99% of the time the problem. When they’re clogged up there’s not enough airflow and they overhead.
      In GE’s there’s a common clog right underneath the filter. Also check for kinked exhaust line or stopped up outside vent flapper.

    Great video and very helpful. Still have a problem though. After a thorough vent cleaning, I still have a tremendous amount of moisture accumulating inside the drum. Vent is clear, and it also appears as condensation on the stainless steel plate on the back of the drum. The entire vent system is actually very wet. Help!

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Behind the stainless steel plate is a common place for lint buildup to happen. Take a flashlight and see if there is a large amount of lint built up around the edge of the stainless steel plate. If there is lint buildup there you’ll have to remove the drum completely. Do not attempt to push the lint out without taking the drum out of the machine. Just behind that stainless steel plate is the heating element and you do not want to push lint onto it.

      @@brainmeece5218 that is odd I’m not sure without actually looking at it. Airflow is usually the most common problem for a dryer. One thing you can check is blowing out well from the back of the machine and after you plug it in to the exhaust line if it’s blowing out well from the outside of the house. It should push out about as hard as a hair dryer on High.

    • @WasherDryerMoney

      Also make sure the door seal is properly working. Otherwise it will suck air from around the door and not through the heating element.

      @@imperius_lxxvii9999 if you can get to the fan it will be very obvious if it is broken loose. You will not have to turn it on. In fact be sure to have the machine unplugged when you open it. Very dangerous to have a dryer plugged in while you’re working on it.

      @@imperius_lxxvii9999 it should turn easy when you have a Dryer opened up. The difference will be if you can turn up the fan and the shaft of the motor does not turn. That means it has broken loose of the shaft of the motor. This is a very rare problem and probably not it. But it’s all I can think of without actually looking at it.

    Hi. Would this video apply to a GE DBLR333ET0AA? I have one that appears to have been run with no lint filter at all and now it has a very low volume of air discharge out of the exhaust.

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most GE’s with filters on the inside are very similar. Definitely if your dryer was running without a filter lint is going to be built up everywhere inside the dryer. It’s very dangerous and you’ll have to probably take the drum out and clean all around it as well.

      @@WasherDryerMoney Good news. I took it apart today. I think it was an older model but it was very similar to the one in your video. It was blocked up with lint in the exact same spot on the front panel down near the exhaust blower. I cleaned that and everywhere else in the dryer. I don't think there is a single speck of lint left anywhere inside the dryer. It now blows plenty of air and is running perfect. Thanks for your help by posting the video. I have one of the new digital GE dryers(looks exactly like the one you have here on this video) I bought it 2 years ago, It has been a great dryer but now the numbers started flickering and the dryer is acting up, sometimes it won't turn off even if you press the power button. It'll work on certain modes like bulk, but not to dry cotton.. Could this be related to what you're demonstrating here or it sounds more complicated, like a sensor or something?

      Anytime a machine gets a digital board they’ll act weird compared to hey manual timer machine.
      It’s always a good idea to make sure they’re not for Lent but it could be something as simple as the plug that goes into the dryer has a loose bolt. Before you mess with anything with Power be sure to unplug the dryer.

      Definitely do not continue to run the dryer if it’s getting hot. That’s very dangerous.
      More than likely, it’s an airflow problem.
      GE dryers have a weird spot that collects lint in the back of the drum. To get it out you pretty much have to take the drum back off.
      Another thing to check for is a grounded heating element. This means the heating element is touching the frame of the dryer. It will come on and stay on and overheat the dryer. Less common then airflow problem, but it does happen occasionally. Good luck and be sure not to run the dryer until it is fixed.
