Thank you as always for stopping by the channel. I had been sitting on these thoughts myself since probably 2016. It took finally coming out of my shell and also what I heard from many that I decided to air this out. It can be frustrating for me at times to see the imbalance between logic and emotion in the world, though I have a very good understanding from my wives perspective how I have my own imbalance between the two.

I share your sentiment that taking away the specificity of what Asperger's stands for makes it more difficult to get the specific support needed. Like taking an antidepressant that gives you an express ticket to the hospital with a range of side effects, then being diagnosed with tachycardia, completely disregarding not only the other side effects, but the fact what it was caused by, and what to do about it. Looking at the symptoms, taking care of them with an utter and complete disregard what they were caused by.
Europe is using the WHO's system of classification, which is abbreviated IDC, and it's essentially copying the homework of DSM, hence why it's lagging behind but eventually adopts the same things. While IDC-11 already ditched Asperger's, a lot of countries still use IDC-10. I am at step 2 of my diagnostic process with a ridiculously long waiting list, and by the end, you can bet I will be diagnosed 11 years after it stopped being a thing, with Asperger's next year, at the end of my journey that started with a self-diagnosis 2 years ago.

I had no idea that Asperger's had been removed so this was super interesting and loved hearing your perspective on it.

I was diagnosed with aspergers and ADD in 2020, in Denmark. I was 56 at that point. I dont think I have "lost" something, because I see my self as autistic, I dont think I fit 100% into aspergers only. I only fit into my own mold, there can be only one "me"
Therefore, I usually describe my self as "autistic" when asked, or "I have autism", mostly when I need help for something, or my "limitations" (socially) becomes to obvious. I have Social anxiety, I think I am easy to spot among others when it is crowded, for me that is more than 5 people.
90% of the people I tell this, understands the word autism better than aspergers.
I dont have a problem with the change, even though it is still called aspergers in Danish psychiatry.

The more diagnostic criteria there are, the less chance you have to get a diagnosis if you don't check enough boxes. ASD has so many different criteria now, that if you don't have enough of them, you will not get a diagnosis, because your autism is too slight to affect you much, it's medically not worth acknowledging (direct quote from a psychiatrist). Asperger's was a subset of autism with a subset of diagnostic criteria, so it was easier to get an Asperger's diagnosis.

J, thanks so much for stopping by my channel and commenting. It's always appreciated. In America where I live Asperger's is treated in respects as a forbidden word. I have seen comments on other channels stating it shouldn't be used and one channel made a name change due to the rejection of the word Asperger's. Keeping up with changes in language for me is like traversing a social minefield but I do the best I can. I want everyone who visits the channel to know you're a fellow human and you're enough here.
