I wish Microsoft really invested in the Duo line. This truly could’ve been the best phone on the market. I honestly believe if they went with the zFold look with the Duo features it would’ve been the perfect phone.
My surface duo is at the point where I just keep it on the charger as a desktop hub for apps. I tried it on battery a couple of weeks ago and it went from 100% down to 62% in just over an hour.
Yay, the update has fixed what was preventing me from connecting my Meta Wayfarers to my SD2! I noticed when reinstalling the app the Play Store detected my SD2 as "Foldable", so perhaps that's why this now worked - making the phone more app-compatible. Now I have the perfect combo - my lovely dual physical screens and the ability to make calls and send texts without having to fold open the device or put buds in my ears!
After selling my Duo 2 last year, I got the Galaxy Fold5. Having followed your channel for a couple of years now at least, I bought Duo 2 based off your videos. I miss my Duo! Received a really good deal on eBay for the Duo 1 this morning... so I bought it 😂 There's just something about Duo that I fondly miss.
In my opinion, for multitasking, nothing tops the Surface Duo. Other devices can do the same but you don't have to worry about the fragile screens. It is ashame that Microsoft gave up on this device. Too many bad reviews but those who didn't take the time to understand it.
Too many factors that were the demise of the series sadly. Targeting the business professional with a price tag to match was a very idea to start then you had really poorly optimized and buggy software especially with the SD1 and missing staples like a usable camera which makes no sense why they'd think it okay to omit this on the SD1. The frustrating part is the Duo line could've have been great but again Microsoft like so many times before just didn't deliver/follow-through and stay committed to it especially after Panos left who was more or less championed the Surface Duo and Neo devices.
Bought SD2 2years ago Shane based on your recommendation. Still going fine but in one years time will look at a new phone. Probably the Pixel fold 3, sorry to see they are changing the aspect size. Really like the size and aspects of the SD2 to work on 2 this g's at once. Thanks for your continued work and reviews.
My SD1, like Shane's SD2, has absolutely terrible battery life, probably worse, to the point that I can't go more than half a day (work day, 4-5 hours) without needing to charge it. Otherwise I'd love to attempt dailying it cause the dual screen form factor really does come in handy at times but it's also crazy wide for most of my pant pockets so there's that too.
My Surface Duo 2 also has sucky battery life. If my battery wasn't so bad, I may have kept using it as my daily driver. I had started getting used to the left screen being cracked, although I filled in with crazy glue, where I could...not quite as bad as you might imagine. The cracks are still very visible but, I'm not concerned about the cracks becoming worse and I used a razor to scrape off excess glue. While it's not pretty, it's usable
I had the bad battery issue with a surface duo 1, found out which app was useing the power and uninstalled it then re installed it and all fine, had to do that again with another surface duo, with same issue plus screen would go green
Interesting to hear the comments on the degraded battery life. Thus far, my SD2's battery is holding up very well, but I charge it every night, and I spend most of my screen time on a PC, not on the SD2.
I hope in a close future we could see android 14 on surface duo devices. Probably we will need to update the room manually (eventually). Something official seems to not be possible.
There is an Android 14 rom for Surface Duo, I was just watching some videos on it. I don't think you can keep any of the original Microsoft software stuff, though.
Sd3 would be so awesome...but i guesse we will never see it...i think its still such a bummer that they didn't continue to make this or give them real support...
I bought a duo 2 two months ago cause I really wanted to try out the form factor. Cool device but crappy software. Laggy very often and other times it didn’t know what to do. Returned it…
I wish they made a updated device Duo 3 with outside display a big battery and better speakers update the software engineer it would be the best phone on the market
@mrkstpn200712 That was an error on my part. I had 5G disabled on my Duo 2 to save battery, so when I popped my SIM in last month, LTE was it. Had the memory of Duo 1 and didn't' question it lol.

Okay I have a question for you. it's about my Surface Duo. I find myself in a situation where I actually need a Kindle to read books to me. but I don't have $200 to buy a new Kindle. Further I don't want to have to save up & put down money on something if I could modify what I already have for free. what I do have is a Surface Duo which I LOVE! what I want to do is download fire OS on the surface Duo. is there any advice you could give me on going about this? I think you're really knowledgeable about the surface Duos so I figure you know your stuff and it's good to listen to people who know their stuff. Have a fabulous day! & TY!
love my duo, but man i REALLY wanted to get my paws on the surface neo? i think it was GONNA be called? yeah i would use the CRAP outa that!! i have worn out my surface duo.....it's REALLY limping along. had to get a new phone but she still works for a metric butt ton of other things just fine. REALLY want that NEO!!

Im glad it's still getting updates. My Duo is a companion tablet/Nintendo DS. I so wish they made a Duo 3
SD2 is perfect. Still the best dual screen phone out there

still daily driving sd1 :)

Still my daily driver as well SD2
Im using my surface duo right now. I need a good pen with a magnet
I'm still rocking my SD1. The original build. Normal battery wear over the past year. I can go the full day.
@@ArthurZakaryan23fixed this with a couple 5000mha horizontal clip on fast charging battery packs. Battery life is no longer an issue
A giant tech company like Microsoft should have it's own smartphone with its own Windows os,and it's own custom chip

My SD1 still works great. I can go days without charging, but I'm not a heavy data user anyway.
Battery 2 days, yes??
This is the direct result of Google optimising their app for Pixel Fold which fortunately have similar screen resolution as an unfolded Duo
I would amend that to "optimizing for large screens" in general for the dual pane apps.

Have you tried using Copilot in full portrait mode

I feel like every time you make one of these videos your Duo 2's sim tray starts glowing in anticipation 😅
Same.
I wish they made a updated device Duo 3 with outside display a big battery and better speakers update the software engineer it would be the best phone on the market
Is this an updated review based on the original build or the 14 beta build from the tech engineer Thai Nguyen?
Stock ROM, but this stuff would be on both.
Great update review!

I'm crazy. I've just ordered a used Duo.
What pen do you use for your surface duo
Hard to recommend anything but the official pens these days
Still using sd1
WDYM 5G doesn't work? It works just fine on my SD2.
5G is SD2 not Duo 1
