    Nice to see some of the Cornish firms on here. My dad drove for Hichens Transport out of Penzance. We were originally from Somerset where he drove for Wilmotts, Sparks, and Yoemans. Great days going away with him when I was a kid.

    Smiles for Miles made me smile. I worked for them in the 70s for a short while driving an old 8 legger wooden sided tipper with no power steering, mainly running out of a quarry carrying roadstone and sand. One day three of us delivered sand to a depot. Normally, we would stay in the cab while the labourer would open and close the tail gate. The last driver decided to jump out of the cab when suddenly the ram snapped and punched a hole in the cab and the driver's seat. Anyway, we started shoveling the sand off the back when Smiles son turned up and started shouting at me. He said " I knew this had something to do with you " . I just pointed to my empty truck. Meaning that it was nothing to do with me and I was merely helping out.
    I never got on with bosses sons. They usually realised that I wouldn't be bullied in the same way that they would bully other drivers. I soon left for a better job but I still remember shoveling 16 ton of sand.

    Seeing Tank Freight truck not 100 % My Dad drove that truck for Tank Freight, The company done photo shoot on the Orwell bridge, In 1980, And the same truck was used, Have tears writing this Thank you for remembered.

    My dad drove them all back in his day. Sed Accys, ERF, Foden, Leylands, proper stuff when drivers cherished their wagons . He always had hard patches on his hands from roping and sheeting 💪🏼
    I was hoping to see “Cannings” from Leyland
    It’s where I’m from, live, and here now
    We have Ian Robinson transport, he’s 40 but loves his old girls, he bought a t45 road train a bit ago and has an old sed accy
    As I mentioned Cannings from Leyland he has also had made one of their old tautliners, an ode to the old company ❤️

    Are tgere any pics of UCC (Union Cartage Company) refrigeratedxtranspirt based out of Warley, Brentwood Essex, Southampton, Sheerness , Reafing and Liverpool. I never drove or worked for them but as a 12 to 15 year old spent many a happy Friday nightshift with my dad who was the security officer/gateman at the Warley Depit from 1970 tob1973.There fleet was made upnof Guy 'Big J's for uk refrigerated haulage and Scaniax110s for continental refrigerated. The Uk trailets were numbered from 1421 tov1489 then there were some 15 numberedctrailers from 1508 to 1512, "and 2001 to 2008, and 11801 to 1829 and vonyinental trailers werw numbered 2501 to 2542, i am 64 now, hapoy days !!

    Fabulous historical compilation, through an era of much simpler times. Better days, and they were, there's not alot today you could say you'd want to remember. No 530hp autobox on computer back then.......😂

    What a blast from the past !
    I spent my school summer holidays going for runs in one of Millican's of Longtown F86's Volvos.
    When I started work, Robsons Border Transport had two guys permanently on site at Metal Box, just roping and sheeting, dungarees and a hairy sports jacket was their uniform whatever the weather !
    The 'Box had their own fleet too, Leyland Bisons and maybe some old AEC Mandators ? Happy days .

    Great to see all the vehicles being appreciated and all the memories they stir. Like many others here my dad used to drive the Atkinson for sunblest and then the volvo which was a real step up. My dad and I spent many a happy afternoon watching your videos together before he died so thank you and keep up the good work.

    Magic to see some of the older wagons, wagons not trucks. My Dad drove for a lot of South Cumbrian firms. Shaws,Keith's, Sid Preston (Carnforth) Barkers and others. My best memories are of when he drove for T Brady several times. This was when drivers would change firms regularly. 8 wheeler Foden, but mainly beautiful Leyland Beavers. He was only about 5 foot 4 but roped and sheeted 40 footers on his own. This was before the fluffy dice,clogs and silly big bunches of keys etc .It all changed when wagons became easier to drive. My Dad was called Des Taylor from Lindale. 🦊🇺🇦🇬🇧🏴‍☠️

    By far the best TRUCKING HISTORY you've produced to date , thanks for the memories , i retired in 2015 after 41 yrs on the road and remember all of these companies though you missed Holtons from the Milton Keynes segment , still vol 2 must soon be comming !
