Mark Knopfler is quite simply an absolute genius - period. Nobody, but nobody, can make love to the guitar in the way that he does - his music will forever be his legacy.
Gets me in the feels every time. "I've run every red light on memory lane, seen desperation explode into flames and I don't wanna see it again..." Story of my life. Favorite lyric ever written. This guy destroys me song by song.
Just pure GENIUS! Sadly we live in a society of wannabees, but for those of us who were born at the right time we have the Best Musicians ever! If you are my age 64 then THANK my God I can listen to this and all the Great Musicians of this era! GENIUS
Quite possible the greatest guitarist of all time. Quite possibly the most distinctive and most recognisable. Amazing. His sense of melody is phenomenal.
I remember exactly when I first heard Dire Straits. I was 15 years old (early summer 1978), and I went into Kithaeron, my local music shop in St Albans, Hertfordshire, UK. I got on well with the proprietor, Dave, and he said, "You need to listen to this." "This" was the first album, _Dire Straits_ and from the first electrifying song, "Down to the Waterline", I was hooked. I'd never heard anything like it. Then, Dave said, "They're playing next week at the City Hall." It was a five minute walk from Kithaeron, so I was there in a minute, blowing my paper round money on a ticket. Wow. That's all I can say. I've never forgotten it. It was that that got me into playing guitar. I love metal, but good bands are good bands, so I don't just listen to metal. Dire Straits is all about sheer talent. Of all the bands I've ever seen, Straits played live more differently and inventively, and Mark Knopfler always seemed to find a new twist. Amazing.
9:00 - The lights dim, the quiet melancholy part is over, the piano strikes those sombre notes, Knopfler sings the final line "Down the Telegraph road ..." and the gradual build-up begins to the best part of the song, the final gallop if you will. Sends chills down my spine every time I hear it.
Calle Söderberg. 1986 Darwin OZ, in midst a huge tropical storm Dire Straits live rain pouring down sheet lightening, 2=3" mud underfoot. Amazing rocking music. Lovely memories, tks D. Straits.
Some of Dire Straits music wasn't commercially successful because it didn't fit into radio's and many people's 3 minute attention span. Thank you Mark / Dire Straits for listening to the beat of your own drums.
The fact that he comes up with different versions of this masterpiece at live shows is incredible, all have some of the building blocks but each different to the record
I`ve always said that Lyndsey Buckingham absolutely rapes his guitar but Mark Knoppler makes love to his !!! both end up with a similar result but it depends on your mood at the time!! i would go for Marks 6 out of 7 days!!!
nik rothe That's it! I would add a third one? although never considered as a "great guitarist", he is one for me: R Hodgson. Listen the solo at the end of "waiting so long".. for me one of (if not THE) best guitar solo of all times.. (not that technical but emotional..)
This recording is a high quality gem! I listen often on my nice audio setup. Another masterpiece from Mark Knopfler! His live performances take amazing songs to another level!
NOBODY, has ever been able to "borrow" his sound and style and pull it off. One of the very few that after 2 notes, you KNOW who it is. He pulls sounds and harmonics from the guitar that are other-worldly, and yet are universal. Then throw in his song writing/lyrics that span the whole range of emotions, and genres....and what we have been gifted to hear for 34 years is a musical force that will never come around again. AND, he's a good man...modest, and respects his craft and fans! Lucky us!
Truely one of the Guitar Gods just visiting from the Musical Heavens! Thanks for stopping by our planet Mr. Knopfler. I hope you'll be no worse for the wear.
OH WOW!! If this does not send a shiver down your spine then you are not of this world! First time I have seen this version! oh my God! Just as good as it Gets! WOW
Oh wow....ye old National guitar...resonating in the hands of a star....Knopfler gave rock and roll CLASS...few artist progressed writing from a youthful stage to a masterful self-actualization...a performance MASTER...still entering our minds through our ears...and delivering a neural enlightenment sans the drugs of other artists...
I talked to someone who knew about Knopfler him when he was younger. Apparently he just used to roll out of bed, with a cup of coffee and play the guitar for hours upon hours without getting dressed/washed apparently. Guitar genius like this don't just happen by chance.
No, they certainly do not! His talent came to him straight from his Maker and Creator, before there was ever one guitar lick in his mind or in his fingers. "Before I formed your inward parts, before you were skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth, I created you in secret; as I looked on your unformed substance, they were all written in My book, and the days that were ordained for you, when as yet there was not one of them. I did weave you in your mother's womb; you are fearfully and wonderfully made. How precious also are My thoughts to you! How vast is the sum of them! If you could count them, they would outnumber the sand. I have enclosed you behind and before, and laid My hand upon you; you can not flee My Presence for where you go, there am I." From Psalm 139 (not necessarily in the God-breathed order. My memory ain't what it used to be; so you get the point. Feel free to read it for your own self for it also applies to you 😊.)
Dear Mr. Knopfler, your music has brought much joy to my life for the last 25 years, since I was 7 or so. I love you and thank you for that. I wish there be a lot of health and hapiness for you and your beloved ones. TedBoy from Brazil.
Mark Knopfler is a god on guitar as always , just gotta love him playing guitar not much moves unless his fingers on the guitar... not even his lips moves when he sings or play hard tunes on the guitar and he always been like that... guitar genuis for sure!!

One of the greatest Blues-rock ballads of all time, if not the greatest!
Pure understated Skill, Awesome musician and man, So humble yet a true great! Fantastic, yet 29 people fail to realise what an incredible display they have witnessed....... I pity their loss.... Suckers!!
A long time ago came a man on a track walking thirteen miles with a GUITAR on his back, and he put down HIS SONGS where he though was the best , RECORDED A LP for the wilderness... THANKS MARK ,, All the way
The Telegraph Road is soaked in the tears of everyman, just trying to make it to Friday. Just trying to survive the weekend at home, living the dream - kids, BBQs, shopping and football...as the clock winds down to 4am Monday, as the dream becomes reality...again and again and again. Life ticking away in chunks, the high tide of existence sweeping away whats left of your soul, one paycheck at a time
incredible how a volume pedal can change anything :) I’m still amazed that many guitarists get a rack of pedals and cannot achieve what MK does with just one :) Don’t get me wrong, I love some of these guys and their playing as well, but yeah, there’s something special about Mark’s playing
I love everything about this track - the storytelling, the melody, the changes in feel and tempo, and the guitar playing is sublime. I never tire of hearing this.
Perfection. If god wants to learn the guitar he knows who to ask! Stunning!! It just doesn’t get any better than this song, this band and this singer, songwriter and guitarist.
Vorrei capire il metro di giudizio di quei 116 idioti che hanno messo il pugno in giù. ... Respect Mr Knopfler!! Uno dei migliori chitarristi al MONDO..PATRIMONIO DELLA MUSICA MONDIALE.
Today now there are 181 who dislike this! Wow, I begin wondering: because whenever ANY music I'm hearing seems to bother me somehow, I ask myself WHY, meaning what is it about ME because music and rhythm are just substantially essentially GOOD for humans. But this...THIS!
***** MARK WOULD NOT WANT YOU TO DO THAT FOR ANYONE!!! YOU START ASKING JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND YOU WILL NEVER FEEL WORTHLESS AGAIN!! READ YOUR BIBLE AND PRAY EVERYDAY!!
"Telegraph Road" was written by Knopfler while on a tour bus on Telegraph Road "Downriver" in Michigan in the late 1970's. It reminds me alot of Gordon Lightfoot's "Canadian Railroad Trilogy".
tee cee wow ! what an incredible connection of concepts you have made... Canadian Railroad Trilogy & Telegraph Road... Great, accurate, spot on .. Thanks for sharing that thought!
Mark your music accompany me in many moments of joy, moments of solitude, moments of pain, your music was a fortress, a castle that protected me many times. For 40 years, today ... life is ticking, I'm blessed by God, He gave me a blessed life .... and your music still sounds ... like yesterday ..... as always God ...... talent in your hands and fire in the soul. I've seen Mark and or Dire Straits in concert many times and I've never heard him play this tune exactly the same. His ability to improvise/compose never ceases to amaze me! I've been listening since the 1970's and have NO plans to stop!
Mark Knopfler is quite simply an absolute genius - period.

Aye think his missus is on verge of divorce coz theres three in the marriage 😅😅
Mark knopfler. A living legacy.
I don’t know why I even bother putting this on TH-cam. I had my eyes closed for almost the entire song.
Pure brilliance.
Whilst not forgetting just how awesome MK is, spare a thought for the other amazing musicians who play with him.
I feel sorry for people who dislike this amazing song because they don't know about music, and they ignore it's message!!
Mark, to me, is the most unique-sounding rock guitarist - EVER!
Sure!
In my opinion this is one of the greatest songs ever recorded
Oh yeah for sure!
Gets me in the feels every time. "I've run every red light on memory lane, seen desperation explode into flames and I don't wanna see it again..." Story of my life. Favorite lyric ever written. This guy destroys me song by song.
Of course it is! Telegraph road is an amazing track.
This is a true Masterpiece
For sure, it's thousands of miles away from all the rest, a masterpiece that happens once in centuries...
Long live Mark Knopfler the Guitar God, Guitar Hero, Guitar Legend.
Une Légende Vivante ! ! ! C''est pour moi la meilleure version de "Telegraph road" jamais réalisée en live
Just pure GENIUS! Sadly we live in a society of wannabees, but for those of us who were born at the right time we have the Best Musicians ever! If you are my age 64 then THANK my God I can listen to this and all the Great Musicians of this era! GENIUS
Im only 46 and think MK is a legend doesn't matter abt age great music is timeless

+CaptainBungonia read your comment at exactly that point in the track. Spooky...
As does the solo in Tunnel of love .16 min version
CaptainBungonia i couldnt have said it better
When I sonder...these notes play in background
ahhh wow funny I did too!
The dialog between the guitar and the piano makes me cry. This is one of a kind masterpiece
I envy the people of Rome for experiencing this and worry for humanity as there are 54 people who has disliked this piece of magic.
+Calle Söderberg that was probably Kanye cause this is real music something he know nothing about .
+Calle Söderberg They don't know anything about music. I feel sorry for them.
Calle Söderberg. 1986 Darwin OZ, in midst a huge tropical storm Dire Straits live rain pouring down sheet lightening, 2=3" mud underfoot. Amazing rocking music. Lovely memories, tks D. Straits.
There are, unfortunately, people who it seems exist for the sole purpose of shitting all over everything.
agree 100%
Some of Dire Straits music wasn't commercially successful because it didn't fit into radio's and many people's 3 minute attention span. Thank you Mark / Dire Straits for listening to the beat of your own drums.
To be honest, Brothers in Arms is one of the best selling albums of all time.
reason and evidence
Yeah but he probably meant Telegraph Road which was on love over gold
I believe it is the corporate radio asshats that have the 3-minute attention span.......the fans always love a good song regardless of the length....
Hahahaha shine on you crazy diamond is a perfect radiosong too 😂🙋♂️🌈🎸🤝
... 161 foolish people 🙀🙀🙀 now!
The fact that he comes up with different versions of this masterpiece at live shows is incredible, all have some of the building blocks but each different to the record
MARK IS AN EXCEPTIONAL SINGER, ARTIST, WRITER, MUSICIAN, HUMAN BEING, LOVE AND COMPASSION, WRITES FROM HIS SOUL...
It is impossible to imagine how 59 people could possibly dislike this.
The dislikes can't be real people....if it's not to their taste I can understand but to dislike is just petty and dishonourable
what people like is subjective, wake up :)
@@reakingringpiece a totally unnecessary rude comment, keep it to yourself
they had their device upside down. or They were upside down.
They were all hanging from the ceiling while they were listening to it.
tears are streaming down my face class personified
Outstanding! No one can make that guitar cry like Mark Knopfler, just unbelievable!

I`ve always said that Lyndsey Buckingham absolutely rapes his guitar but Mark Knoppler makes love to his !!! both end up with a similar result but it depends on your mood at the time!! i would go for Marks 6 out of 7 days!!!

This recording is a high quality gem! I listen often on my nice audio setup. Another masterpiece from Mark Knopfler! His live performances take amazing songs to another level!
Great song. Great guitar player. Great songwriter, and an all around nice unassuming, modest, shy nice bloke.
NOBODY, has ever been able to "borrow" his sound and style and pull it off. One of the very few that after 2 notes, you KNOW who it is. Watching Knopfler playing his guitar is like watching a beautifully choreographed ballet. Pleasant both visually and auditory.
There is no better guitarist than Mark Knopfler .
Probably one of his best songs. For me it's his masterpiece

Well played Mark ! That Pensa sings !
