Your channel is one of the very few I devote time to. The construction tips, fabric suggestions, and your high standard for finishes brings me back. Your personality is the beautiful bow 🎀 on these excellent tutorials. Thank you for all the effort you put into these videos.
Everything you put up on the channel is just so interesting - full of great sewing inspiration and tips. You have a whole community of people who sew clothes and your content is the best. Have a great time with your parents and enjoy feeling warm and cosy when it’s really winter outside!
You just saved me a bunch of money, time and tears. I’m going fabric shopping today and won’t be buying any more rayon spandex. I’m grateful for you honesty. I made one top that took me a long time with rayon spandex. I love it but to think of losing it in one year makes me very sad. I’m with you on double brushed poly. Love it!
Hi Karina, I’m enjoying your content from Canada, have to laugh at 0 degrees being freezing! I often watch during our winter when you are modeling your beautiful makes in your garden with the flowers and birds. It reminds me that summer will come eventually. Thank you for what you do. I have learned so much from you especially about neckbands and sewing knits. When I get compliments on my makes I often mention Karina taught me.
Great video and love that you are willing to also share what hasn't worked so well because that really helps a less experienced sewist like me. Hope you feel better soon. Safe travels and enjoy your time with your parents. Don't worry about us, we'll be here when you come back. Family, however you define that, is so important. Make wonderful memories. ❤
Once again, love your makes today. This LN Tidal Top and Dress is such a great pattern. Your RTW jacket is awesome. Looks great with the dress. Have a great trip to see your extended family. We always enjoy "going with you" on your trips.
I have had a similar experience, I kept buying a it again and again. I was driving myself crazy. Actually I was sewing my stash, so I blamed my old self. I really want my clothes to last.
This is so true, but I also find it true for cotton spandex, the fading of the colours anyway. Thankyou for your amazing videos, I always look to see what suits you and find that to be a good indication for myself, which is super helpful for me. Thankyou once again. Catherine
Thanks again for all your great work and tips. I love both makes. Always look forward to seeing what you have made. Sorry you are a bit under the weather. Hope you feel much better soon. Also I hope you enjoy your trip. Take care.
I knew something was off when I started watching this video. Hope you feel better for your trip. I also love this pattern and have made it several times.
Have a great trip. I live in the UK and we rarely get a summer!! Just buy lots of fabric and wear layers of it as a blanket when you go outside, a good excuse to buy more than you need!!
You convinced me to get this pattern! Thank you for the discount code. Have a wonderful time with your parents. I hope that your region of Brazil was not effected by the flooding.
Thank you for the video on the fabric! I wish I would have had time to watch it Friday morning before I bought 7 yards of rayon spandex😂. But that’s ok. I will have some PJs down the line. I hope you feel better and I really enjoy your channel and your wonderful tutorials! Enjoy your time with your family! ❤
I too have felt your pain about rayon spandex Karina! I stopped buying it as well for the exact same reasons. I made a dress I was so thrilled with and within a couple of washes it started to do that awful fluff and fuzz thing....argh!! :( Thank you for another wonderful video. Have a safe trip and a wonderful time in Chile with your parents :)
Hi Karina. I hope you can put taking care of yourself first and kick the cold out the door before you head off to Chile. Thank you for the tip about rayon/spandex knits. I am just starting to explore the world of rayon and will now concentrate on wovens or knit blends where rayon is paired up with other fibers. May you have a wonderful trip and may you find or make some nice warm clothes to snuggle into when being exposed to the cold and beautiful outdoors, Antonia
I’m with you! I have a lot of rayon spandex clothes that are no longer wearable! Super sad! PJ’s are a good idea! Have the best vacation with your folks! ❤
That sweater knit with those pants is so so lovely!!! The black/white dress is gorgeous as well!! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a short blazer hack! 🤗 I can tell you that you would not want to live in Canada in winter haha!
It’s nice to have the reinforcement about fabrics that I’ve bought in the past and been disappointed in- rayon spandex knits. I’m also avoiding rayon challis as it’s been disappointingly thin. But I’m not crazy about polyester though and can only tolerate a small percentage of it in fabric. It’s too warm in the summer and yet cool to the touch in winter. I’m going for mostly natural fabrics in classic styles that make the time I’m putting into the garment- worth it. 😍
You look great. The make up is perfect & you look good in black & white. Fabric also fades here in the U.S. I use cold water & very little soap detergent on those stretchy fabrics.
Enjoy your vacation! And thanks so much for the helpful information on what fabrics last and work best for this pattern. So helpful! Purchased this one today after seeing that beautiful sweater knit top you made Love the length and the print! Thanks again😊
Hi Karina, thank you for sharing your experience with sewing different knit fabrics. I have started writing up notes on my experience with various woven and knit fabrics as the choice of fabric is so critical to how a garment turns out. Your black and white sleeveless knit dress is stunning and suits you beautifully. I hope you recover from your cold quickly and enjoy the precious time with your parents. 🌸
Hi Karina, thank you for another great informative video. (Rayón Spandex). I buy nearly all my fabric online, so I really have the see, tough, feel experience because where I am in Spain there is only 1 fabric shop and it quite far away. It’s great to know what to avoid. Hope you have a great 10 days in Chilli. Safe travels 😊
I love this channel and always learn things from it. Thank you for the warning about rayon spandex. I’ve always loved things made of rayon challis. Now I know not to get rayon spandex. Have a good trip and time with your parents.
Thank you Karina! I've had this pattern for over a year (shame on me) and I am finally printing it out to make my first. I'm hoping that the princess seams will be a flattering look as I like anything that makes me look a little more streamlined. LOL I hope you have a great trip, and hey, at least it can't get as low as -35 c which is something I've experienced during my winter season.
So it's not just me and rayon spandex! I've had the same experience with rayon spandex - the fabric fades, gets that pale fluffly surface and just doesn't look good. Hope you feel better quickly so that you can enjoy your time in Chile to the max. Anne
Karina you have a large stash of fabrics. I would love to see you use the fabrics that you already have and maybe make some self-drafted garments. It could be a journey to declutter and make use of the beautiful fabrics that you already have???
Hope you feel better soon, Karina, and enjoy your visit with your parents. I'm pretty new to sewing and your channel is SO helpful. Thanks for the warning about rayon spandex.
I absolutely love the material of the black & white dress. I love the large print! You do such a great job! Thank you The dress with the cropped blazer is my style also. 😃
Love the Tidals, but it was the white crocheted scarf that unexpectedly stole the show❤ It’s a shame about the rayon spandex fabric. Your projects are gorgeous and it’s really disappointing to put your heart and soul into making them only to have them deteriorate after 10 wears. Great job on the new makes :-)
Your new dress is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the poor fabric. Good to know! And have a wonderful time with your parents!
Oh no - what a bummer about rayon spandex knits! I have have several in my stash, and just bought 2.5 yards today for a pair of summery palazzo pants (and I know the quality of the knit I bought is not super great). Perhaps it's true that rayon should always be "dry clean only". 😕 I've never used brushed poly spandex because it's, well, polyester (= hot!). But I'll have to sew it up and wear first before I judge. So many sewists hate anything that's not natural, and it's easy to jump on that bandwagon as a newer sewist.
I have recently come to the same conclusion about viscose jersey which is what I buy rayon spandex as. I end up throwing them away after 2 seasons. I have never found single or double brushed poly in the UK, but I tend to avoid polyester so my choices are diminishing. I want to make another laundry day tee, but I am really only left with cotton jersey which may have too much structure. I will try it. Anyway, thank you for all these tutorials you do, I watch many of them or search if I need something specific. Have a great trip and I am sure you will be making some warmer clothes whilst you are there.
I need to make a Tidal! I've had the pattern since its release and haven't made it. I have some perfect fabric, too! I hope you feel better for your trip and that you have a fabulous time (despite the cold weather). Stay warm!
I really like the princess seams on your tops. Regarding fabrics -why do you use Spandex ? Why not a good quality of cotton jersey? It lasts longer (but only if you use gentle detergent in washing and very little or no fabric conditioner).
Hope you have a wonderful time with your parents, and maybe they have a warm wool sweater for you to borrow. Great to have you confirm what ive always suspected..... I bought some rayon spandex online in the past, and when it arrived I was quite disappointed with the quality. I've recently made summer night gowns from it, very comfy, but i won't be buying more. I hope you're feeling better soon, hard to travel with a cold let alone to a cold place!
OMG! I was all set to start the Tidal, so I had my fingers crossed about the "worst" fabric, saying to myself, "Please don't be rayon spandex! Please don't be rayon spandex." Unfortunately, it's rayon spandex! Ugh. This fabric feels so lovely, but I don't want to put my heart into a garment only to have it "grow" or wear badly. It's also a bit tricky to sew. I guess I will save my 20 yards of rayon jersey for underpants! 🤣🤣
Aww. Such as shame about your Tidal top. I really loved that make. I did wonder how you could get through winter in that almost sheer sweater knit - you don’t have a real winter 😂 I’m an hour from the ski resorts in Australia and I’ve been wearing wool sweaters for a month already. I hope you don’t suffer too much in Chile 😊
Hope you get well soon. Having a cold sucks. We are also experiencing a much colder winter than expected and I realised this morning I was not prepared (wardrobe wise), but I will have to make it work for the next 3 months 😂
Thank you so much Karina for sharing your expertise to help us! While you were talking I went to my Trello knit fabric list to check the content and make sure I have clear descriptions. 😊 I wonder whether it matters if the rayon/Lycra is blended with some polyester? At least now I can be prepared for possible poor outcomes and keep that in mind.
I've had the same experience with rayon spandex. It is so disappointing. I recently bought some bamboo spandex to try. Have you used it with success? I find polyester too hot and cotton spandex lacks drape unfortunately. Thank you for sharing your experience. Enjoy your vacation.
Hi Karina, this is Laura, sharing my husband’s TH-cam account. I hope you feel better soon! Thank you so much for finally saying out loud, what I’ve thought about rayon for years! I can’t stand it! It looks and feels so lovely when it’s brand new, but it disintegrates in the laundry. I hate it! So many TH-cam sewists love their rayon so much. I was beginning to wonder if I was crazy, maybe it is good. But no, you’re right, and my original opinion was right. Rayon is garbage, with a sturdiness factor of zero
When I was just starting out about 4 years ago I was learning to sew knit tops. I tried rayon/spandex and found it difficult to sew, especially something with plackets or buttonholes. It is springy, clingy, drapey and does not look polished when sewn up. It wrinkles terribly when packed or folded. Will never use again!
I have heard that if you never put the knits in the dryer, they won't wear out like that. My rayon/spandex tops are looking really sad too. My new ones won't go into the dryer.
I bought a few pieces of rayon spandex when I was making Forte tops. I ended up making the bodices from a heavier cotton spandex and only used the rayon for skirt/peplum. This way I have the more robust fabric where I need the close fit and the rayon where I want the light drape. They seem to be working out ok. Might be an idea for your remaining rayon spandex, any pattern that has a floaty section under a waist or under bust seam.
Great video! What else do you recommend for drapey knits that are natural fibers? I don't wear polyester knits because I find they wear super hot and hold onto odors...
Natural fibres don’t tend to be drapey at all (cotton, linen) but modal and bamboo are drapey. I don’t have experience with them at all because they don’t sell them where I live but I know they are better than rayon.
Agree that rayon/viscose is a horrible fabric. I’ve also been seduced by the color, print, drape, and hand of this fabric. If you are lucky it lasts 10 washings.
She said in another comment that she loved woven rayon/viscose fabric, but the knits were bad news. Maybe they're okay if you wash them very gently? (She has no dryer.) They do always recommend dry cleaning for rayon, as it's weak when wet. 🤔
Thank you so very much for your work to teach us about sewing. I especially enjoy your tips about the patterns and fabric. Looking forward to seeing what you post from Chile. Have a wonderful visit with your parents!

Too funny, I have come to the same conclusion with rayon spandex. I now just use it for pyjamas. Have a great trip..
Have a wonderful trip Karina. You work so hard for us all and deserve a rest. Get well soon and take care.

OMG I live in Canada and last winter we had a cold spell that was -30°C that lasted about a week.

So enjoy you videos! Thanks for saving me from buying rayon/ spandex! Enjoy your visit to Chile & feel better soon.
I have stopped sewing with rayon spandex awhile ago because I found the same issues as you have.😊

Always enjoy your videos! Thank you.
No. There’s no poly in the blend. I love woven rayon but knit….. a while different thing
My husband and I needed to do some car engine work in a carport when it was 16 degrees! I could last 15 minutes before feeling sick.
Have a wonderful time! ❤ feel better soon. ❤
Have a great visit 🎉
I hope you get over your cold soon so you can enjoy your trip to see your parents.
I’d be interested in a blazer pattern, too, if you find one.

Will the Lagan make a winter appearance?
You’ve got that beautiful itch to stitch coat you made?
Yep. Heading to Chile with it 😀
Is rayon spandex specific to the tindel?
No it’s not specific to the tidal. It’s just that I used that fabric many times when I used the pattern.
Have a great time visiting your parents.
Thank you so very much for your work to teach us about sewing. I especially enjoy your tips about the patterns and fabric. Looking forward to seeing what you post from Chile. Have a wonderful visit with your parents!
