I thought my dog was depressed but it turns out she’s just lazy
I have the same conundrum... We adopted a male puppy from the shelter and it legit acts like a cat. Sleep and food are his motivations for life. He gets bored of toys very easily and rather than making a mess if he is bored he just sleeps. I have never seen such a chill dog in my life. :D

my 12 year old dog was depressed, barely ate, slept all day, and sighed all the time. we brought home a rescue puppy and he immediately took on a big brother role, taught her how to pee outside, how to beg for treats, how to play, and how to be a good dog. she brought out so much life in him and they snuggle, wrestle, chase, and play with each other everyday

My Mom passed away May 24th this year. I have two Dogs and Two Cats Who are All Depressed, As well as myself. I fake being Happy Most of the Time, SO they Won't Always be SO Sad. Some days I'm just TOO Tired to pretend I'm Happy. Like Today I have 4 mopey furbabies. I'm talking to them, loving them and trying to Cheer them up.

One of my two dogs just passed away. They were sisters and have been together all of their lives, and anytime they were apart they got huge separation anxiety. It’s been a few weeks and she seems so lost. She will walk around the house aimlessly, then just stand in front of us and give us this look. She also spends long periods of time sitting on a bench at the front window, like she’s waiting for her sister to come home. I’ve been trying to do more with her and I hope this video helps

My sister's dog is depressed because she recently became disabled and can't take him on walks anymore. She's been trying to find someone to take him out, or even come over to play in the yard, but she hasn't been able to. I can't help cuz I live across the country. I feel so bad for them :(

Don’t worry she’s completely fine now, we did take her to the vet turned out she just needed to be spayed. She’s back to her old self now.
We just adopted this puppy and he was so sad at first he was just laying in one corner or barking but now he got used to it and it's all good

I'm so glad this video came up on my recommended. My dog has been acting very different after my dad's passing and I'm hoping to see these improve my dog's behaviour.
When I adopted my puppy I was between jobs. Five months later, when I started working from home full-time, I noticed behavioral changes in my puppy. He became more restless, nippy, bored, & frustrated. I hired a professional dog walker to take him for a one-hour walk every morning at the beginning of my work day. At first this seemed to help, but then I realized he was still frustrated once the novelty of his long morning walk turned into routine. He really loves his dog-walking buddy, but they've settled into something that just doesn't give him enough novelty or connection with dogs. Now, in addition to his supervised walks, I've started taking him to the local dog park five or six times per week for 1+ hours each visit. I let him wear himself out running & playing with the other dogs, which is his absolute favorite thing to do. I think he'd be thrilled to go to the dog park two or three times per day, but it's not practical given my work schedule. I suspect the ideal solution is to install a large fenced "free play" area in the yard, and start taking in foster pups until I can find one who really clicks with my puppy and with me. He just doesn't like being away from other dogs. With me working and "ignoring" him, it's just that much worse. Dogs are pack animals, and he needs his pack (me and dogs) around him to be truly happy.
My dog was very active and happy but because of lockdown he's in depression or maybe because I was depressed all the time. He's sleeping all day in his bed and never plays or get involved in any activity. I was really worried about him but thanks to this video. I'll follow your advice and see if that makes a difference. I hope he's gonna get better again. Thanks again.

My mom passed away about a month ago. She was really abusive and we fought all the time so it didn't affect me a lot, but my dog is so sad all the time and she hides in the bathroom. I feel so bad for not noticing her sadness earlier.

@@Savagecabbage5158 That older dog passed away a few months after my ex dumped me (I guess shortly after I made this comment?). Judging from social media, the other two dogs seem okay, and they got a new puppy. But I unfollowed her in order to help me move on, so idk.

My dog had surgery not to long ago, About a month ago to remove excees skin bumps she had, and ever since than she hasnt acted the same since and i miss my happy doge

I think my poor doggie is depressed. 💔 my other pets are sick and one has passed away, so I'm depressed too. The sick animals care has taken over my life, and the dog has fallen into the background of the chaos. All I want to do is grieve for my lost pet, but I still have to care for the others and work. I just dont have the time to spend with him during these hard times but its hard for him too.
My dogs best friend passed away in 2018. She was extremely depressed, but she got a little better.She is still a little down but she's doing well now. :333

I had 2 small dogs,they r both 14 and lived all their life together,they r sleeping together,eating and other stuff together. But one of the dog died 2 days ago,they are really old,and I am afraid that the second dog will die of depression cuz she will miss her. Last 2 days I was feeding the dog with all her favourite stuff,instead of leaving her alone as always to sleep ,I am now taking her with me always to bed,trying to catch her attention during the day more than before,play with her all day. When I should do stuff for work,she always lays there not moving at all. I am afraid that if I leave she will get really sad and depression will take over. I have a cat BUT they never really liked each other... + the cat doesn't give a fuck lol.. It is sad because the dog never really liked being beside the cat,but now that her long life friend died.. she can sometime sleep beside the cat...

Guess she just needed a couple weeks to be sad just like me, I tried to feed her with her favorite food and play with her more during the day and just talk to her and make her feel that I was there with her and now she’s fine. I had a dog that was about 12 years old and another dog who we got from a friend. My dog, who was male and was a lot bigger, quickly became friends with him. Then the dog ran away when a gate was left open. My dog became really depressed fast he stopped eating and playing with us. After that my uncle gave us a puppy who was a girl from his neighbor. My dog then went to the garage door to see her and sniff her. It was so adorable to see him move and eat again. Sadly though my grandma left the gate and she ran away. Shortly after that my dog ran away we never saw him again. Also I should mention he ran away after the first dog ran away and he came back all bloody. Which proved he can come back but he didn't, we think he left again to look for the girl dog. Anyway this happened about a year ago or so.
When we got 2 new kittens, my dog didn’t mope around in sadness, he peed and pooped and riped up garbage in anger and jealousy. Now they sleep together, get annoyed of one another, the cats try to play but he blows them off and snaps at them. We than got 2 puppies and he did the same thing. He is a chihuahua btw.

My dog became depression after losing his wife to a tough battle with cancer. Dogs are so human it’s scary... who could abuse something so emotional and sweet
I recently got my grandpa’s dog, because he passed away last week. She won’t eat, and I cannot leave her side. 💔😞 When I do she just shakes, and trembles in fear. I took a week off of work already , and I have to go back soon. She’s scared to do anything. I have been with her everyday for two years taking care of my grandpa, but she still misses him. I can’t get her to walk, or anything because I live in town, and she is used to country, and hates the noises here. Her old house was large, and her new one is small. I feel so bad for her. I hope she comes around soon. It breaks my heart.
Maybe a doggy day care facility, a few times a week. Start out with just a few hours a week.. just for a change of pace. Maybe it could become something she looks forward to. I got my moms dog after she passed, it was a bit challenging for him to adjust to.
My dog has developed anxiety and depression after I left for college and then my other dog passed away from old age during my break and then I had to leave again. I have transferred back home and just I hate seeing her be so sad, I know she is lonely and misses her brother but I can’t get another dog :( I’m taking her to dog parks I want miss seeing the happy and adorable dog I used to have.

My German Shepherd is depressed :( my husband has been gone over a month due to a relocation and we’ve been staying with my mom. We don’t move for another couple weeks I have never seen her so sad before. She won’t eat and doesn’t get excited for treats toys or walks like she used to 😔😔
We are always checking our furry members of the family, if they're eating normal, playing or demanding love (cats) or if they're growling and attacking (my dog). We know something is wrong with my dog when she doesn't growl at me, she hates me so if she doesn't she's ill. Once when my Dad went on a travel she wouldn't bark or eat. We checked her health and found out she was depressed. There's not much we can do cause she loves only 2 members in the family, so we just tried to make her more active and give her food she feels more attracted to eat

I just had to put down my Sherpador who just turned 3 because we could not afford surgery. but all dogs go to heaven so I hope he is doing ok up there.
After we took away our dogs favorite toy, because it made too much noise and we gave her another one, she stopped playing and would eat much less than before. We took her to the vet and checked what was wrong with her. The doc said she´s perfectly fine. He later asked If she had suffered a loss in the previous few days......Yuki was sick.....she suffered a broken heart........She´s eating again and seems to accept her new toy. I think she has forgiven.....but she won´t forget.....
I got a puppy yesterday. He is 2-3 months old. He was a stray along with his 4 siblings. He is really affectionate but also sleeps a lot and doesnt eat unless it's from my hand. I hope he adjust quickly because im a bit worried
My poor dog. He gets really bad hotspots during the summer and he stops moving and just sits in his kennel all day. I try to get him to go outside so I can play with him and try to cheer him up, but he just won't move. I feel so bad. I also think my family is used to just having cats, so we have a harder time caring for a dog. I'm trying my best and I hope he gets better.

there’s a dog living nearby me, the owner isn’t in what i’d say a good position to own a dog ( dog sleeps outside in the cold in a little kennel, the owner is working 10 hours a day with no time to even look after him ) 6 month old puppy. i take him every morning for a walk and keep him for hours but mannn i can just tell he’s depressed. wish i could take him home.

When ever I leave, my dog doesn’t do anything. He won’t eat or do anything he just sits at my window waiting for me to come home. He won’t let anyone take him outside unless it is me or my sister. My parents blame this behavior on me for not being home enough to take care of him when In reality they also have to make an attempt to get him to be attached to not just me. I show my dogs love and care which is something they do not and they don’t understand why my dogs get depressed when I’m not home.

My dog who is usually very energetic doesn't want to play, she is moping around, she is sleeping more, and hiding more. I have been trying to play with her and she goes on a walk every day, we give her treats and cuddle her but she still seems sad. Nothing big has happened recently, except maybe school starting soon so we go out a lot for back to school shopping and open houses, and have not been able to take her with us (we used to take her everywhere). And I'm afraid when school starts back up it will get worse seeing as we have been out of school for so long and she is used to us being home.... any tips?

the day Next my puppy no longer followed us as before and I noticed that he was lying on the blanket away from us so I brought the blanket and put it where we were, I noticed that he was lying down next to the blanket he was sad i think he felt protected by the blanket i grabbed the blanket i noticed that he felt sad maybe because i left him in the garage alone he felt lonely

My dog lost his big brother, his behaviour changed. Doesn't eat or drink lay down on his bed, I was worried so I get him checked, nothing. He look so sad yet so thin.😭 I knew he was sad. Yesterday left my puppy with my aunt that has 4 German Sheperd. And when I went to get him we arrived home and he got really sad he did not want to play with me.. My dog (shi-tzu) has changed the last two weeks. When we fo for a long walk she is happy, and somewhat cautious towards other dogs but everything is fine.
But she doesn’t rest on me anymore, when i lay flat, even when i call her she is unresponsive while she used to run at me like i was the best thing ever.

My Pomeranian has some depression since I left his “dad”. He also has separation anxiety. But he is getting better, more playful with me and seeking out cuddles again. It’s hard because he always has disliked other dogs. I adopted him and see his previous parents never taught him how to play. He’s 6 years old and toys are a waste of money. He plays with me but not with a toy on his own. He refuses kongs no matter what I put in them. So I suspect it’s as much boredom as depression. Your thoughts?

I'm trying so hard to save mine. My patience is beyond wearing thin at this point though...it seems she is hypersensitive to how serious my bipolar is. Even when we play it like she can feel what I really feel not what I'm showing. I don't know what else to do.. I think you need to understand how it is for those who are being provided for by mentally unstable people. It traumatises you. My parents were also "trying hard" but they didn't care about themselves enough so they could never stabalize themselves to be there for anyone let alone a child. If your dog is hypersensitive you're probably the one teachin it to be. Go gluten free, take care of the gut as the stomach is the second brain and you'll see that sense of self value and desire to improve change the sir around you. Also remember...you're not the center of the dog's universe. You're it's packleader who is currently failing at the job
I absolutely adore my dog. She sleeps in our bed, 3 walks a day. She saved my life as she has helped me with my depression. Since we had our baby who's 6 months old. She loves the baby but she seems a bit down within herself. Her eating habits haven't changed, she loves going for walks and will always grab her ball once the baby is in bed. But she just seems really sad in the day. I'm working from home due to covid and I don't know if shes just down or she's just mellowed out cos shes two now. Any advice would be great

had 2 dogs. they slept in the shed (we made a proper house type thing). one was hit by a car and killed today (shi tzu) so we brought the other one inside the house (a terrier). just wanted to know if i should keep her inside or not. i don’t know if she’s depressed or not as the shi tzu was hit a few hours ago. she seems to cuddle into me much more than she used to when i brought her inside. we’re planning on keeping her in the house for now.

my one dog died and now i think my other dog is depressed, she couldn't eat and i can see that she is crying, so am i too, i cant still move on to my dog's death that happened just yesterday (jan. 4) and it hurts me more seeing my other dog in pain :((
my dog is a mastiff and I want to take him on walks but I can’t bc my mom will not let me bc she says that he is to big and heavy but she never ever offers to take him on walks. He does socialize and play with other dogs sometimes but I feel so bad bc I want to help him but I can’t because my mom will not let me what should I do?
I think my dog is depressed because i played with him top much as a puppy and now that hes fully grown i dont have the energy to play with him as much as i used to.. i take him to the park everyday and play with him several times throughout the day. But it doesnt seem to be enough he acts really bored and sad when were not playing.. am i worrying too much?

One of my dogs died recently and he was the brother of my other dog who is still alive. She was there when he died and we were just arriving on our vacation. She seems look very sad but I don’t know. I mean she still plays a bit but then she lies down in our old dogs bed and has a sad look on her face.

I used to live with my dad who had 2 Rottweilers who my bulldog loved to play with, one day one of the Rottweilers flipped out and started to bite her really hard for that reason I had to move out. Since then my bulldog has been very depressed. I also had to get a 2nd shift Job. Anyone have any tips? I take her for walks but she doesn’t like walking much. She still plays but not for as long as she used too.
