appreciate how you comment on adopting dogs from shelters. Many dogs have had a very rough life, to get a new home means a lot of right reinforcement that it will be a forever home. My service dog is a rescue pup, and we train daily to try to calm his fears as we have no idea what life was for him before the caring shelter staff took him in. His forever home is now with me. He's an amazing companion! thank you on this video!!

I had to take care of my dad’s dog because he’s away for 1 week and so i have a good connection with my dog i always played with him and he never growled at me, but ever since we took him to my mom’s house he started growling at me when i’m around him. He approaches me to pet him then he starts growling. I really want to know why he’s been growling at me.

I know your comment is almost a year old, but here goes.
I always learned that if a dog is usually sweet and loving towards other people or animals, but there's one they don't like at all and growl at all the time, there's a good reason why they don't like that person or animal.
They always sense what most of us can't.

How about when a dog growls when someone pets him or hugs him, what should I do?!?
You need to start with him just not growling with them near him, and your helper offers food- it's a slow process to build trust

I’ve had my dog for 2 years. I got him when he was 2 so he is four now. He loves to play rough and growl all the time although he is playing. He always licks me and gives me plenty of love. I have never hit him or anything idk if in his past home he was abused a bit, he’s never bit me. I think he may have anxiety issues, he’s a chiwawa-terrier mix

Never punish your dog for growling. It can make your dog suppress it's growl and dogs growl as a warning sign that they're in fea or sick or feeling anxiety and that it's about to react and bite. So you make your dog suppress the warning sign he's giving you that he's going to bite, then one day instead of growling to warn you or your kids, he's just going to bite you. That's why you hear so many stories about dogs biting without showing any signs of aggression before hand. Now what you wanna do is find the reason it's growling. There's numerous things, such as anxiety or fearful of people, or it's being territorial, or it's sick or hurt, or it's guarding an object. And once you find you out what the underlying problem is you can start training them on how to get over it. BUT NEVER TRAIN YOUR DOG TO SURPRESS IT GIVING WARNING SIGNS BY PUNISHING IT WHEN IT GROWLS. it can and most times Does nothing but lead to unprovoked attacks.

I had my dog for years he’s a red nose pit and I be leaving out every week day for school and get home at 4. When I get home he always comes to the door to see who it is and I be really excited to see him and I pet him and rubbing him and he started to growl at me idk why because he usually happy to see me, why growl at me?
I took my puppy from a dog foster home about a year ago. I love him to bits; he has a great personality, and I feel that he loves our family so much. BUT, whenever I take him for a walks, we have problems. He hates other dogs and sometimes even growls at us. My husband and I were thinking about taking him to 'doggy school', but then again, it’s extremely expensive, and the nearest 'doggy school' is far away from us. Maybe you have some advice? Hello, What could be the reason why my dog starts growling at me and barking excessively (barking off and on for hours) when I come home late at night?

from my experience, if you care to hear from me, i find using another confident, nonaggressive dog is helpful. these dogs don't really react to the barking and growling teaches the shy dog that there is no danger. i have a dog that just stands there and lets other dogs bark, growl and sniff... the big production doesn't last long and soon after they are usually playing.

I just adopted a rescue border collie (5 days in). He is very friendly with my husband and myself however he barks / growls and snaps at my 13 year old daughter occasionally. Only her, usually when he is getting pets by me. Would this technique work in that situation?

My silky terrier is about 3 years now. He has always growled at other dogs when they come near me even if other dog owner pets him but about 6 months ago he has been growling and even big snap at me and hubby. No, but you need to look at re-training- This is never OK. A good dog trainer can help alot

I’m slightly having problems with my dog growing or snarling at me as I try to pet him or rub his belly. This has never been an issue- he is a 6 month old husky mix, I have tried giving him space, he has not bit me and if his toys are laying in the hallway and I try to get through, he decides to get in front and start being seemingly aggressive.

my dog is a puppy. he is mostly good and doesn't bite aggressively most of the time (i think we taught him to stop) but occasionally when i rub his tummy or tell him to stop biting, he will start biting hard, and eventually growling and barking. i don't know what to do. he is a husky german shepherd mix.

My dog recently has gotten more aggressive and I dont know what to do.
Full story but I'll try and keep it short. Hes (poodle schnauzer mix) always been a bossy dog but good. One night I hovered over him with both my hands on the bed and he got extremely defensive and growled very aggressively.
I had heard it's good to show them their bites arent a threat so I balled up my fist and put it in his face. He growled VERY intensely and in my confidence I flattened my hand and that's when he got my hand in his mouth but stopped short of biting me, I pushed forward and out my hand to the back of his mouth and he began to truley bite me as hard as he could. He bit up my pointer enough to leave a couple punctures and make it numb. He was in constant defense mode that night and eventually he got on the floor and in his bed.
I put his stuff on the floor (normally sleeps with me).
He was punished by me ignoring him and moving him out of my room for 2 days entirely. No entry allowed. Than I let him back in and a day later, he mildly lunged at me when I walked toward him and went to pet him.
A few days later I'm playing with him and in a tug of war he took the toy and when I went to go grab it from him to keep playing, he snap at my hand.
I dont know what I can do to help this if anyone has any advice or training tips please help me. I have anxiety where I once had love for my dog but now I'm so scared whenever I approach him because I just dont know if hes gunna bite my hand again. I really need guidance.
Talk to your vet- consider checking thyroid level. Then see a good trainer

Only time our yellow lab really growls is when the neighbors go by.
Or if we leave the. TV on late at night, and she'll stare us down and give a little short growl a few times, no teeth, until we turn it off and let her sleep.

Ever since my dad died from covid he changed
I am honestly at wits end with my dog who is unpredictable, had every kind of positive puppy/dog training and still growls/snarls/goes for me for unpredictable reasons (eg. Pointing at a toy, sometimes he is playful, sometimes he growls). He even saw a vet Behaviorist and we're on prozac which does not seem to do anything.

@@eamyn231 I am not a vet but in my case I had to see multiple specialist. I would talk to your vet first or find a good certified animal behaviorist. My dog has a playpen, he is growing out of it but it's helpful to keep him away from the dinner table when he was younger. Best of luck, I know how hard it is. You got this.

I just received a morkie rescue pup five days ago, day 1 she was getting used to us so she was standoffish by day two she was all over me following me everywhere. Day five, today I took her to the groomers and she received her 1st haircut but since we’ve been home she’s been growling and barking at me and even attacked my 7 year old son !!! What should I do! Question: I have a small dog that growls if I try to pick her up. She isn't being aggressive. she knows me as her parent and feels the most comfortable around me. She was my brothers dog mostly since we had here at 1 month old. My brother died last year and I took her in my care 24/7. She was highly attached to him and it took allot of close caring care to get her to eat. She never left my side after she understood something bad happened. She even helped me through that tough time.
Anyways getting back on track, she growls when myself or my mother tries to pick her up. She even fakes like she is turning around to bite sometimes. She doesn't do this all the time though so I don't know if she is in pain or has some anxiety about it.
It sounds like you and I have the same kind of ideas so maybe there is something I'm not realizing.
Any other time she is either at my feet where I'm sitting down, or fallowing me around everywhere. (Even when I sleep, she is sleeping between my legs or by my head)
She is a good dog and very caring and this growling is relatively new (4 months)

Sorry to hear about this. Personally i would encourage you to see a skilled trainer and make suggestions based on interaction with your whole family.
Take your dog to the vet. It could be that your dog is in pain or is ill. Im surprised the vet making thus video wouldnt suggest or consider this.

Mine's been occasionally doing that too. Usually if she's hyper or having fun when I pick her up. I think she thinks I'm ruining her fun. How's your dog now?
I started using treats when I picked her up for a few weeks and that helped.

Dogs are territorial. That bed is probably seen as its territory. You were invading it.

Today i got very scared from my street dog who never even growl at me she is 3 now and she had deliverd babies third time ( so today her one of the puppy got stuck in a narrow place outside because she is a stray i only feed them and pet them everyday i am not allowed to have pets at home because my parrents wont allow so i tried to get him out with my friends and the mother was again and again worrying to much and running towards us not to harm but to see her puppies still we are kids we got scare and lock her where are puppies were than we took out the puppy and place it with her but she was growling at specially me so much that even i got panic a lot and breath heavilly even they never attacked it still so scary but luckily she is the daughter of a very very kind mother which never even growled at people even when got bitten in her life she is currently 5 years) ( thats why i search this video even tho i clam her up but for future guidence becuase i love animals and have a great knowlegde about themm but i am only 14 so i will learn everything about every animal so i can help them)

Have you considered CBD oil? Aggression is sometimes rooted in anxiety. CBD oil may help him calm down.

If it is then, its just nipping..puppies do that.

Thanks Doc! If anyone approaches us, however; he reacts rather aggressively and overprotective of me by backing up close to my side, lunging on occasion, growling and baring teeth. I have to then tell him, "NO Chewy" and keep walking!

I live with my brother and we go to our nans every week. she has a yorkie that is very friendly but growls alot. i would like to know if you know what to do....
my nans had her since she was a pup and has spoilt her ever since. she has come to realise that she can get what she wants when she want. this leads to constant moaning when she wants something. me and my brother know that we should ignore her but my nan gets really annoyed and does what she wants.
She also is horrible on a lead. if you take her off a lead she will just run. this has lead to her almost dieing many times. she also walks horribly on a lead and pulls every time.
Finally, she growles constanly. we went to see her the other day and i gave her a chew stick. she does this thing that she wont eat something unless you go to grab it. when you do this though she will growl at you and something nibble. She also does this if you go to pick her up sometimes. another time she wouldnt stop growling is when i gave her another stick one sunday. she kept guarding it from 12 to 6 and if you stoof up, she would just growl. the thing is, she wouldnt eat it.
i would like to know if you know anything to help stop all this. my nan wont do any training, as she is getting too old and i only see millie, the yorkie, once a week. i am looking after her in september for 2 weeks. i would like to make millie a really well trained dog so my nan doesnt give her away, as shes done with past dogs. I will find this dofficult though as she hardly eats anything, just dog biscuits but it is very rare. she doesnt eat dog food or most meats.
