@@TomsBigSpiders Honestly the only issue I have with natanicharum (and other Chilobrachys) is that they web to the point it becomes impossible to feed or do maintenance without destroying some of their webbing. They’re big, attractive, show a bunch of interesting behaviours, are absolute hunting machines and grow fast.
Maybe a Tom cleans all the water dishes needs to become a series haha ( a lil maintenance video can be cool to see and you can highlight different species (maybe add a feeding)). learning proper husbandry is really informative and can help new keepers prolong the lifespans of slings, juveniles and adults! I also want to see your spiders react to your presence when having to do maintenance. Thanks for the amazing work Tom I've learned so much from your sling guide!

tarantulas and water dishes full of dirt are a classic. i sat and watched my t vagans fill her dish up one night, one clump of dirt at a time. and my avic always leaves her boluses in hers.
Just a big brown spider? Get out! :D They are awesome. I got all the Theraphosas and I love them. Mine are all very chill except my blondi boy, he is cray cray. :D I got an auratus boy and a girl, they are one of the most beautiful Tarantulas in the hobby. Not only the gold but the red and purplish of the abdomen are breathtaking. Awesome video. Not saying that you should do more feeding videos but maybe do more of those "random" mixes of spiders showcasing. *cheers, Tom! PS: I got the same thing going with my roaches.
We are still in the 90's here. Glad we do not get snow and ice. It has been over 100 degrees 50 days in a row. Give Billie a standing ovation for her camera work. She is the Tarantulator. My previous record of 18 hours for a dubia playing dead inches from a spider, in its web, was recently beaten. At 24 hours I dribbled water on the one in my H. gabonensis 😂

But these females really do shine for 1-2 months after a molt. ;-) Got to check where I can still find room for a X. or Phormictopus sp (or even T. blondi, but I can't find any slings yet...) Will have to set up a really nice enclosure though ("mini jungle"), or my wife won't appreciate haha

Been wanting some kind of Xenesthis for quite a while but the species has always confused me, they all look very similar (or the same on google). Fairly set on intermedia after seeing this video! Its great to see multiple different sp. in the same go. Would love a video where you just show all your Phormictopus/Pamphobeteus/Xenesthis one after the other or even side by side 😊
Yeah would love seeing all Ts of these genera in Tom's collection at a glance! And maybe add in the Theraphosa spp just to make the big butts team complete. :-)

My T's love to rearrange their decor but so do my lizards, they keep me hopping. Curiosity is killing me, why do you not tong feed? Does it harm them somehow? She scared the poo out of me, Lynette...don't encourage her! haha I don't tong feed because I don't see a point in it. They should be able to hunt on their own. Also, spiders can miss the prey and shoot up the tongs, which can be dangerous. They can also crack fangs on them if they grab the tongs and not the prey. Thank you so much!
Thost baby's are so beautiful and the gold on that auratus is insane i have a harpactira pulchripes sling and he gold is just starting to show andnin the right light its so cool and its starting to get the blue and even as a sling man sshe or he is doing a ton on work in her enclosure i absolutely love what shes done made her self a 2 entrance tunnel under her cork and webbed up the entire top with 2 perfect lil circles in web so awesome

Yay, I'm not the only one who remembers that show! haha As for favorite Theraphosa species, I honestly don't think that I have one. I keep all three and I love them. :) Yes, I have two M. robustum, but they usually hide in their burrows. Favorite genera are Phormictopus and Poecilotheria. Have a great weekend!

Love your spiders. The T.stirmi is a beautiful big spider.! I love the T. Vagans, I have a mature male who matured out a year or so ago and is still active and going strong. And 2 females. Pokies are awesome too I have two Regalis's, and a Striata I named Java. (Funny story there). Those are just a few. Between my mom and I we have a little 80 spiders..

Tom I love you so much, but Rainbow Road is a level in Mario Kart. Rainbow Bridge is for dogs/cats/birds/etc. I call it the Big Roach Pile in the Sky :) That Xenesthis intermedia is absolutely stunning, I'm planning to do some pairing coming up and not to count my spiderlings before they hatch but this may be something where I trade the whole sac for a Xen sling. Loved your Lasiodorides sp. that was absolutely adorable! Also, I relistened to the podcast about curtain web spiders and I thiiiink it may be time for me to get one! What I love about feeding videos is seeing all the different colours on them. In Australia it’s brown. Brown grey. Brown black 😅 Love them still 😊 But just love the colours of other countries spiders Love from Australia
I also have the same issue with them not eating in front of the camera. I don’t know how others achieve this so consistently. They may edit in and out successful feedings from several times. Otherwise I cannot understand it. For some reason, I rarely hear about Formictopus or Xenesthis among general keepers nor I encounter them often for sale. Why are they so rare? Very beautiful rare species.

It's a big brown spider but there's just something different with Theraposa, is it the sheen, the striping don't know but it just makes them really beautiful

My female Xenesthis sp white died at about 5”. She molted and lost her fangs and she survived till she molted again. Then a few months later she stopped eating and then died

I am currently keeping a Brachypelma harmorii, Avicularia avicularia, Tliltocatl albopilosus, Acanthoscurria geneculata, and a Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens. I prefer terrestrial or arboreal new worlds at the moment that are mostly out and about. Please let me know your recommendations! I hope this isn't too much to ask 😁Thanks!
I love the "girlfriend permitting". haha Honestly, it really comes down to your personal preferences. With the ones you have, I would say that you'd be ready for your first Phormictopus species. They eat great, grow quickly, and get big. They are also very easy to keep. As for which species, maybe a P. auratus?
Hey, Aliza! No, it tended to add to much time to feedings. I start at one side, and work my way around. When one molts, I mark it with a sticky note and feed those spiders an extra time during the week. Slings also get fed once a week.
Hello! Well, I find it to be completely unnecessary; they can find and eat prey on their own and don't need to be spoon fed. But, it's more because they can overshoot the tongs and prey items ending up on a hand or arm (I know a few folks who were bit because of this). They can also grab the tongs with their fangs, cracking or breaking one. Hope that helps!
@TomsBigSpiders I hope you see this. I've got 37 Ts currently. Slings, Juveniles and Adults. I've created a pretty decent dubia roach colony because crickets at 17cents a piece are getting way too expensive. Especially because I've also got Geckos, Frogs and a Bearded Dragon. One big problem though: The damn Roaches seem to hide and/or play dead(?) ! My Spiders especially, but not only them, can't seem to find or don't wanna hunt the Dubias. The baby dubias don't seem fat enough for the slings. I give them a meal worm with the head cut off every other day. Any advice on this darn Dubias? Please 🙏

With phormictopus species, does the color on their carapace have any benefits to them in the wild? Or have they just evolved that way?? I wouldn't think bright pink would hide them very well lol

If you wanna actually experience an arboreal Tarantula hunting and actually taking down prey in front of you. Use moths. I use waxworm and hornworm moths. The wingbeats drive them insane
Tarantulas are excellent hunters. I drop the prey in, and they eat it. :) Tiny slings, I will sometimes prekill something or drop in a cricket leg. Slings will scavenge feed.
Aurum is the Latin word for gold. So that T is GOLD not bronze. Bronze is an alloy of copper and copper has a pinkish hue to it. The metals are not the same. That T looks like it has gold covering it. Jet black looks great with the bluish gray forelegs.

Hello! At 1.5", that container should be fine for another molt or two. That said, it wouldn't hurt if you did move it. I'd probably wait until after it molted again.

Hi, Courney! Some refer to this as the "tarantula happy dance." It's totally normal. Your tarantula is webbing up the ground beneath it in preparation to eat. They will also do this and sometimes wrap up multiple prey items into a "cricket burrito." :)

Yay, I'm not the only one who remembers that show! haha As for favorite Theraphosa species, I honestly don't think that I have one. I keep all three and I love them. :) Yes, I have two M. robustum, but they usually hide in their burrows. Favorite genera are Phormictopus and Poecilotheria. Have a great weekend!

That Xenesthis intermedia is absolutely stunning, I'm planning to do some pairing coming up and not to count my spiderlings before they hatch but this may be something where I trade the whole sac for a Xen sling. Loved your Lasiodorides sp. that was absolutely adorable! Also, I relistened to the podcast about curtain web spiders and I thiiiink it may be time for me to get one! A few of my vendors have sericata so I'm looking at that! HAAHHAAH You and Billie are so funny! You guys are couple goals for sure! I do not like when people touch my neck so I would have flipped out! The teal on the femurs of that sp. Salinas are INSANE! Reminds me of the colours on a T. ockerti tbh. Hi, Penny! I DO love the Australian species. I have one, S. crassipes, and she's fantastic. We can't get many of them in the US, though!
I also have the same issue with them not eating in front of the camera. I don’t know how others achieve this so consistently. They may edit in and out successful feedings from several times. Otherwise I cannot understand it. For some reason, I rarely hear about Formictopus or Xenesthis among general keepers nor I encounter them often for sale. Why are they so rare? Very beautiful rare species.

That was a really interesting point you said about phormictopus auratus not being blue slings I had never heard that before. I just recently got my first auratus sling but mine is looking that blue colour so I’m not sure if I’ll have a surprise phormictopus 🤷♀️ I want to collect as many of the genus as poss anyway so I’m excited to see what the wee guy turns out to be 😊

My regalis the other day chased a roach down in her enclosure… with a roach in her fangs it was fantastic to see lol…Somehow my list of “wants” keeps getting longer every time I see another Tom and Billie video .. ugh 😑.. current top 4 on the list are:

My female Xenesthis sp white died at about 5”. She molted and lost her fangs and she survived till she molted again. Then a few months later she stopped eating and then died

Hey Tom! Great video as always! I had a question for you. I was looking into getting another tarantula (girlfriend permitting haha) and I wanted your opinion on which to get? I am currently keeping a Brachypelma harmorii, Avicularia avicularia, Tliltocatl albopilosus, Acanthoscurria geneculata, and a Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens. I prefer terrestrial or arboreal new worlds at the moment that are mostly out and about. Please let me know your recommendations! I hope this isn't too much to ask 😁Thanks!
I love the "girlfriend permitting". haha Honestly, it really comes down to your personal preferences. With the ones you have, I would say that you'd be ready for your first Phormictopus species. They eat great, grow quickly, and get big. They are also very easy to keep. As for which species, maybe a P. auratus?

Hey, Aliza! No, it tended to add to much time to feedings. I start at one side, and work my way around. When one molts, I mark it with a sticky note and feed those spiders an extra time during the week. Slings also get fed once a week.

Hello! Well, I find it to be completely unnecessary; they can find and eat prey on their own and don't need to be spoon fed. But, it's more because they can overshoot the tongs and prey items ending up on a hand or arm (I know a few folks who were bit because of this). They can also grab the tongs with their fangs, cracking or breaking one. Hope that helps!
@TomsBigSpiders I hope you see this. I've got 37 Ts currently. Slings, Juveniles and Adults. I've created a pretty decent dubia roach colony because crickets at 17cents a piece are getting way too expensive. Especially because I've also got Geckos, Frogs and a Bearded Dragon. One big problem though: The damn Roaches seem to hide and/or play dead(?) ! My Spiders especially, but not only them, can't seem to find or don't wanna hunt the Dubias. The baby dubias don't seem fat enough for the slings. I give them a meal worm with the head cut off every other day. Any advice on this darn Dubias? Please 🙏

If you wanna actually experience an arboreal Tarantula hunting and actually taking down prey in front of you. Use moths. I use waxworm and hornworm moths. The wingbeats drive them insane

Tarantulas are excellent hunters. I drop the prey in, and they eat it. :) Tiny slings, I will sometimes prekill something or drop in a cricket leg. Slings will scavenge feed.
Aurum is the Latin word for gold. So that T is GOLD not bronze. Bronze is an alloy of copper and copper has a pinkish hue to it. The metals are not the same. That T looks like it has gold covering it. Jet black looks great with the bluish gray forelegs.

Hey 👋 question I have a Brachypelma Emilia that's about one and a half inches. It's in a 4 and a half by 4 and half container should I server an eviction notice and put it into a med size critter keeper for now?
Hello! At 1.5", that container should be fine for another molt or two. That said, it wouldn't hurt if you did move it. I'd probably wait until after it molted again.

Hi, Courney! Some refer to this as the "tarantula happy dance." It's totally normal. Your tarantula is webbing up the ground beneath it in preparation to eat. They will also do this and sometimes wrap up multiple prey items into a "cricket burrito." :)
