I liked feeding day as a time to enjoy each snake and spend time. Having to worry about camera angles,focus,and the like,I say naaaaa....not for me. I'm too lazy,besides my other hand is for my 🍺. 🤣😅😆
Amazing takedowns and also all the members of the genus are amazing. The purple and Violet ones even more. Sadly few people know this genus. And don’t forget that feedings are relaxing for viewers too.

I was sleeping on the phormictopus genus, but I just got an order from my favorite breeder pnwarachnids yesterday and they sent me a free phormictopus auratus, about 1.25 in and it's SO bold and spirited and I can't wait to watch it grow.
First off, a HUGE apology for the late reply! I just found a bunch of comments that I missed. A FREE P. auratus? That might be the best freebie ever! haha Mine were quite shy and skittish, so it's cool to hear that yours is more spunky! haha

I think it might be because I have ordered tons of ts from them, every time they have sent me a freebie before then I gave it to a friend with their business card and that friend will inevitably later on make their own order. They also see that I advertise for them constantly on social media as my favorite breeder. I've sent a lot of business their way because I love them and I think it was a special thank you. It's so wonderful when you find a breeder that takes great care of you and the spiders and is local. 🖤🖤🖤

I just love when the Dominican Purple is greedy when you feed. Mine just love take more than it can "chew", Really greedy and beautiful, but absolutely not an beginner spider. Its veeeery skittish and it gives me a threat even when i just water it water dish.

You're the first person I've seen use the mDesign boxes for spiders, they're so great! Discovered them about 2 months ago for my roaches and just rehoused my Kaeng Krachan and GBB into them today!

Love this video!! I bought a Phormictopus sp. S Hispaniola a while ago, and after posting pics and speaking to a few different keepers, apparently there's discussion about a Green/Gold, Green femur, and Full-Green. I wonder if it's a similar situation to the Avicularia avicularia and they're just different color variants of the same tarantulas. Anyway, it's one of my favorite Ts, always a good eater, beautiful, and so much fun to watch hunt! I hope more research and description are done on these awesome Ts.
Hello, Laikin! Thank you very much! As for the S. hispanola, that's what I was wondering as well. If I remember correctly, they are supposed to have different spermathaeca. Speaking of which, the next time my S. hispaniol and full greens molt, I will have to compare them. :) My S. hispanolas are SO laid back, they are almost like rose hairs. haha Thanks again!
You've gotten me into Phormictopus. First one was the P. auratus as a 1 inch sling and it has been the opposite in nearly every manner to the way you describe yours. Has never once dug despite the deep substrate and has instead webbed up the surface. Very bold with an intense food drive that makes it a joy to feed. Most people I've seen describe them closer to yours so I seem to have a bit of an oddball. I'm going to try and pick up a sp. Dominican Purple next. Beautiful spiders as always and great video!
That's awesome! I'm obsessed with the genus, so I try to get all of the "species" offered. I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite. haha. As for the burrowing, I've had a few folks tell me that their never burrowed and were more bold. Sounds like you have a spunky one!

My adult P atrichomatus female hits like a tank. She can easily take 5 crickets in one sitting. One can hear her hammering those "poor" crickets beneath her corkbark. It really sounds when she grabs them

Ok so I've finally done it brother, I keep many scorpions but have just entered the world of tarantula keeping and hoping to beat my fear of spiders. I couldn't decide what to get so I got three lol. N chromatus, A geniculata, and a brachypelma boemhei. I'm not sure if I have you, Richard Stewart or marks tarantulas to thank or blame. But seriously I am looking forward to watching the juveniles grow and hopefully extend the collection. All the best buddy.

Great video. I dont mind getting a treat once in a while. Im gonna have to binge watch all your vids since july. Had some bad luck and have to restart my collection. Neighbors house caught fire and smoke came into my spider room... 😢
@@TomsBigSpiders only 5 slings out of 28 T's survived. The bigger enclosures aloud the smoke in because of all the cross ventilation. The slings that survived were in small dram bottles with small pinholes in the top. So the smoke didn't affect them. Making an order next week, getting a few p. Gigas, a green bottle blue and a few h. Maculata slings

I got into keeping through channels like exotics lair and dark den and Dave's little beasties and recently found your channel and love the content and collection is unparalleled, you have a lot of my absolute favorites. I actually just got my first tarantula about a month ago, a Brachypelma Auratum and I desperately want others already. I'm so afraid this America Competes bullshit and amendment to the Lacey Act will stop me from getting the ones I want before I can even get them. It really is bullshit and I so hope it doesn't pass the Senate 🙏 I'll be really sad if I can't get the species I've been wanting because I could only afford to get them from breeders online where prices are lower and the choices are more vast than any pet store. This whole thing makes me so sad and especially for people like you and all the other exotic animal keepers out there who are so passionate and responsible about what they do. It just isn't right how they snuck this in so shadily and might just get away with it 😭
I think its good that you do mostly educational videos. I think that is more intresting than feeding videos. I hope to see a video of your new tarantula-room soon.
It took me a while to watch this video because it is so long. I had to get in the right mood. Glad I did watch, because you just can't beat a purple T. You certainly can influence me. For example, I recently picked up a P regalis sling. I'm still a little nervous opening that enclosure, but really it always hides on the underside of the cork bark when I touch the enclosure. Now, I may as well admit, I'm going to have to get a purple spider. It never ends!
So much like your video especially Phormictopus species. The pink carapace violet turned into purple when mature. And gold carapace green femur turned into full green. That's really amazing. I also got two 5 inches violet bought together but one is pink one is purple. Hope to know more about these Pho species because they are really complicated.

Things are hard right now. I'm doing the stay at home dad thing for the first time ever. Also, I'm lunch lady and teacher. With a 1 yr old on top of it none the less. My spoods are my relaxing time too. My kids love helping feed. Future T keepers lol. I'm proud of them. That's our release at the end of the week. Glad to have kids that are the future of the hobby. Train em' young lol. #WVtarantulas

First off, I'm so very sorry for the delay in replying. Man, I'm so sorry to hear about your hardships. I was doing the teaching from home thing while also working with my 9-year-old on his school work (and playing Mr. Mom) and it was starting to wear on me. I truly feel terribly for parents who are trying to navigate through this home schooling stuff. That is awesome that your kids enjoy feeding with you...what a cool family activity. Train them young indeed! :)

Yeah, mine hit like trucks and are the most skittish Phormictopus I keep. They will bolt AND throw up threat postures!

You're the first person I've seen use the mDesign boxes for spiders, they're so great! Discovered them about 2 months ago for my roaches and just rehoused my Kaeng Krachan and GBB into them today!

I bought a Phormictopus sp. S Hispaniola a while ago, and after posting pics and speaking to a few different keepers, apparently there's discussion about a Green/Gold, Green femur, and Full-Green. I wonder if it's a similar situation to the Avicularia avicularia and they're just different color variants of the same tarantulas.
Anyway, it's one of my favorite Ts, always a good eater, beautiful, and so much fun to watch hunt! I hope more research and description are done on these awesome Ts.

As for the S. hispanola, that's what I was wondering as well. If I remember correctly, they are supposed to have different spermathaeca. Speaking of which, the next time my S. hispaniol and full greens molt, I will have to compare them. :)
My S. hispanolas are SO laid back, they are almost like rose hairs. haha Thanks again!
You've gotten me into Phormictopus. First one was the P. auratus as a 1 inch sling and it has been the opposite in nearly every manner to the way you describe yours. Has never once dug despite the deep substrate and has instead webbed up the surface. Very bold with an intense food drive that makes it a joy to feed. Most people I've seen describe them closer to yours so I seem to have a bit of an oddball.
I'm going to try and pick up a sp. Dominican Purple next.

That's awesome! I'm obsessed with the genus, so I try to get all of the "species" offered. I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite. haha. As for the burrowing, I've had a few folks tell me that their never burrowed and were more bold. Sounds like you have a spunky one!

My adult P atrichomatus female hits like a tank. She can easily take 5 crickets in one sitting. One can hear her hammering those "poor" crickets beneath her corkbark. It really sounds when she grabs them

Hey Tom, hope you and your family are keeping safe and well. Ok so I've finally done it brother, I keep many scorpions but have just entered the world of tarantula keeping and hoping to beat my fear of spiders. I couldn't decide what to get so I got three lol. N chromatus, A geniculata, and a brachypelma boemhei. I'm not sure if I have you, Richard Stewart or marks tarantulas to thank or blame. But seriously I am looking forward to watching the juveniles grow and hopefully extend the collection. All the best buddy.

@@TomsBigSpiders only 5 slings out of 28 T's survived. The bigger enclosures aloud the smoke in because of all the cross ventilation. The slings that survived were in small dram bottles with small pinholes in the top. So the smoke didn't affect them. Making an order next week, getting a few p. Gigas, a green bottle blue and a few h. Maculata slings

I got into keeping through channels like exotics lair and dark den and Dave's little beasties and recently found your channel and love the content and collection is unparalleled, you have a lot of my absolute favorites. I actually just got my first tarantula about a month ago, a Brachypelma Auratum and I desperately want others already. I'm so afraid this America Competes bullshit and amendment to the Lacey Act will stop me from getting the ones I want before I can even get them. It really is bullshit and I so hope it doesn't pass the Senate 🙏 I'll be really sad if I can't get the species I've been wanting because I could only afford to get them from breeders online where prices are lower and the choices are more vast than any pet store. This whole thing makes me so sad and especially for people like you and all the other exotic animal keepers out there who are so passionate and responsible about what they do. It just isn't right how they snuck this in so shadily and might just get away with it 😭

It took me a while to watch this video because it is so long. I had to get in the right mood. Glad I did watch, because you just can't beat a purple T. You certainly can influence me. For example, I recently picked up a P regalis sling. I'm still a little nervous opening that enclosure, but really it always hides on the underside of the cork bark when I touch the enclosure. Now, I may as well admit, I'm going to have to get a purple spider. It never ends!
So much like your video especially Phormictopus species. The pink carapace violet turned into purple when mature. And gold carapace green femur turned into full green. That's really amazing. I also got two 5 inches violet bought together but one is pink one is purple. Hope to know more about these Pho species because they are really complicated.

Things are hard right now. I'm doing the stay at home dad thing for the first time ever. Also, I'm lunch lady and teacher. With a 1 yr old on top of it none the less. My spoods are my relaxing time too. My kids love helping feed. Future T keepers lol. I'm proud of them. That's our release at the end of the week. Glad to have kids that are the future of the hobby. Train em' young lol. #WVtarantulas
P.S.- You're by far my favorite tarantula TH-camr. I've learned more from you than anyone, and I've become a fan of more genus' because of you. Keep up the good work and hang in there with the virus schedule. We're thankful for all you teachers 👍❤
First off, I'm so very sorry for the delay in replying. Man, I'm so sorry to hear about your hardships. I was doing the teaching from home thing while also working with my 9-year-old on his school work (and playing Mr. Mom) and it was starting to wear on me. I truly feel terribly for parents who are trying to navigate through this home schooling stuff. That is awesome that your kids enjoy feeding with you...what a cool family activity. Train them young indeed! :)
