The great Jimi Hendrix gave props to Billy Gibbons for his guitar playing, quite the honor. These guys are bluesy southern rock and yes they were inducted into the hall of fame in 2004
I have been fortunate to have seen “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” Live 4 times. I recorded the last show (Full HD) before Dusty passed away. Always an awesome show. You must see many other tunes from them including “Rough Boy” (official video)…. “Same three guys, same three cords, for five decades” - Billy Gibbons at last show.
The Chicken Ranch, house of prostitution outside LaGrange, Texas is what this song is about. It closed the year I graduated from high school, 1973. Never went, but friends of my older brothers went. Been thru LaGrange hundreds of times. Saw them in concert at The Summit in Houston. Great band!
Well I have a lot of nostalgic memories tied to Sharp Dressed Man and touching that kind of thing but man, it's not that the older stuff was blues and changed, that early shit was blues-rock man and it was that Texas ZZ Top kind of rock. And yeah, a lot of us like the early stuff better because it's just harder. It's not as pop. It's as simple as that. But if you like ZZ Top you like ZZ Top. I mean I've been to a biker wedding where the wedding procession down the aisle was literally, Sharp Dressed Man. And groom had on one of those t-shirts that has a tuxedo printed on the front of it and his bride was in kind of a loose-fitting hippie dress except that it showed off her boobs and it was kind of short and that's what they literally danced down the aisle to to go up and get married. So there's a place in a time for everything no doubt. If you want to see how much they can blaze though, check out I heard it on the X. It's got both of them going at it vocally and it's a true story of where they got their roots and it's got the most amazing fastrip ever. The day I learned how to play that I was in absolute heaven. And of course you got to check out cheap Sunglasses and Pearl Necklace and We Bad, We Nationwide and all those man.
That's one of my favorite albums. By anyone. I've always replaced it when I wore it out, broke, or lost a copy. Worth a complete listen from start to finish. I've heard you mention how much you love the blues. This album is right up your alley.
And the drummer that doesn't have a long beard, his name is Frank Beard!! 😅🤣 My sis' fav!! This played, volume up, she'd start dancing, if seated like driving, she was still dancing!! 💃🤩🥳 Miss her. RIP Dusty and Suzi. 🥺

Billy Gibbons is in my top 10 guitar players. "TV Dinners" has some of the dumbest lyrics, but great guitar playing. Check it. If you want blues, try "Blue Jean Blues", "I Need You Tonight" and "2,000 Blues"
