  • We visited Caroline Absher in her Brooklyn studio to talk about the series of paintings she created for Her Clique's fundraiser for The Art of Elysium.
"This series of friends, lovers, and past selves began as a portrait of my oldest friend Andi. While painting her, I realized my hand wanted to remember her as a child. For me, the painting oscillates between her face now and my first memory of her. I think painting has the ability to shape-shift over time. I love the idea that paintings have room to grow once they’re made, because as we age with them, we start to see things differently. In twenty years, I will be able to see every version of her,” commented Caroline Absher.
Caroline Absher was born in Greenville, South Carolina. She moved to New York in 2012 and graduated from Pratt Institute in 2016. Since then, she has settled in Brooklyn to develop her studio practice. Caroline is currently preparing for upcoming exhibitions in New York and abroad, and looking forward to attending the Macedonia Institute residency in April.
