    I live in 34A. Fun thing to do in February. Hunt the morning and golf in the afternoon.

      Yes, we have family friends from Idaho that come because it's like spring break for them.

    Try adopting a squadron (a group of peccary), and giving them some regular supplemental food. They're very docile, passive, and almost apologetic about taking food. Try helping, instead of hurting.

    I got 20B and buddy 20C. I got the OTC Deer tag ALSO. Going bowhunting..first time for Javelina ever. Camping out and hunting for 4 days. Been studying and prepping but...total newbies lol.

      That was a good choice of unit. Both are still open for mule deer. Seek out those areas with small scattered chunks of private land down low.

      @@azgamefinders Ok, will do. Thank you for the great info. Also...can we just...pitch our tipi tent out there somewhere...park the car...on a road and then, hike in with our gear etc? sorry were newbies lol...

      @@kee7678 The vehicle is one of your greatest scouting tools at the beginning. You can camp anywhere with your valid hunting license. But consider driving more at the beginning of the hunt and look for tracks. At least during midday. For that reason my advice is always camp next to your vehicle at a crossroads where you can use the vehicle to drive to different parts of the unit.

      Finding them is the hardest part. Cover alot of country with glass and you should be okay. It took me a few seasons of doing the weekend warrior thing to get one. My friends who take the whole week off to hunt usually tag out. Best of luck!

    I checked my camera in a desert unit and I got thousands of pics(mule deer, fox, even badger, Bobcat, ringtail). I have OTC for pig and none at all lol. With all that game you would think javelina would be there as well. They are hard to find to me.

    • @azgamefinders
      @azgamefinders  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree with you. People ask me to scout them for their hunts. But they can be a difficult species to locate so I stick to scouting deer.

    My 10 YO daughter drew her first hunt. Youth Javelina 33, 37 A+B. I haven't hunted Javelina in over 20 years. She going to have very limited time due to school, horeses and 4H. Any help on general area would be appreciated. I know hunting spots are coveted my most, I thought maybe a little less for Javelina.

    What are the most productive units in Arizona for Javalina?

    • @azgamefinders
      @azgamefinders  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Over The Counter tag units are the worst. The open desert units and some midrange units are probably the best. However, they have a super small home-range are spread out even in the better units. It's very difficult to find them sometimes and that's why very few outfitters offer guided hunts. Personally, I use my vehicle to look for tracks. Sometimes it takes a few days to find fresh sign but they are probably living in close proximity to the tracks for an extended period of time. So hit the spotting points and walk the washes within a mile of the fresh sign. You usually find one or two groups that way. It's similar to elk hunting in that you must make shot opportunities count because they will probably be few and far between. A few units to look at would be 20C, 20B, 19A, 32, 37 A or B. It's like most other hunting - when you look for deer you find javelina. When you try finding the javelina all you see are deer.

    • @azgamefinders
      @azgamefinders  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like a fun time. My advice is to get off the beaten path in a four wheel drive (or on ATV's). Drive the worst roads you vehicle will traverse. Some people like to use the spotting scopes. We have more luck walking the edges of remote washes. In fact we do "javelina drives" like the old fashioned deer drive. When you find a road crossing wash after wash after wash...drop a hunter at each wash to walk down and try to locate javelina. Even if you bump them they are like rabbits and stick around that area. This is a desert tactic. If you're hunting the high country focus on the lower elevations within your units. They only need water every few days but tend to stay located in the same general location for weeks if not months. When you locate javelina sign focus on that immediate area for days.

      Move to Unit 5B North. I spent lots of time in Unit 6A this year and have yet to see a javelina. Try that high desert county at the northern end of the units east of 6A. Good luck!
