- Are you gearing up for the Arizona elk & antelope hunting application season? Join Trail Kreitzer as he walks you through the essential details you need to know when applying. In this video, Research Expert Trail Kreitzer goes over everything you need to know about applying for elk in Arizona.
This video provides essential information for those interested in applying for Arizona elk and antelope hunts. The deadline for the draw is February 6th at 11:59 Arizona time, and applying early is recommended due to potential delays in the online application process.
Key points covered include the need to purchase a hunting license, the bonus point system in Arizona, and the random draw component. The video also discusses the advantages of applying for multiple species, loyalty points, and hunter-education points to enhance your chances.
The draw system allows for up to five choices, but Arizona only considers the first two choices before moving on to the next applicant. Group applications are possible, but applicants should be cautious about potential permit shortages.
The cost of returning a tag and regaining bonus points is explained through the "point guard" option. The video concludes with a subjective assessment of whether Arizona is worth applying for elk and antelope, emphasizing the importance of studying draw odds and considering the cost-benefit analysis.

Love the quick video good info
Thanks Trail for the update. February 6th is coming up fast.
Great info thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the info Trail, i stopped buying Antelope pps in AZ last year as well.
Thanx. Also love the Spanish guitar opening.
Last year the deadline was Feb 14th so my license is still valid this year to go into the draw on Feb 6
When can you buy a bonus point for Arizona and how much is it?
Also, if you surrender your tag with PG you cannot purchase PG for a few draw cycles after that cycle. Can't remember how many.
Hi there, I might follow up just to clarify. With point guard, only one hunt permit-tag may be surrendered, per species. If an applicant is drawn in the future for that particular species, that hunt-permit tag must be used, expending all accumulated bonus points. Only then may an applicant participate again in PointGuard Plus (and PointGuard).
For the hunters ed course I believe you still have to do one in person field day correct? Not fully online, right?
Correct
Hi there, with covid a few years ago they made a change for the Arizona Ethical Hunters Course where you can gain the extra bonus point for all species. Prior to that you did have to do an in person field day. That is no longer the case, it can now be done entirely online, you still have to pay the $300 nonresident fee or $150 resident fee. For traditional hunters education in order to hunt any state you would have to complete a hunters education course.
correct! I took my class virtually last year. All the points showed up in my profile@@trailkreitzer9163
UUGGGGG>...i just realized i missed the deadline for Arizona which was yesterday....DANGIT. Did I just loose all of my accumulated points in Arizona, or did I just sacrifice the Loyalty bonus point only?
You retain the points you've accumulated but will not get the loyalty point for another 5 years assuming you dont miss a year
@@nikerat5647 thanks. They moved it up a week which is why I missed it. I wasnt paying attention.
For the online Hunters Ed course, is an in person field day required?
If so, that's not likely an option for non-residents.
Yes

Thanks Trail. Ya I was a bit confused because it still says a field day is required on their website. @@trailkreitzer9163
@trailkreitzer9163 Thanks Trail. Their website says a field day is required along with the hunter-ed website. Maybe they reinstated it.
The $15 application fee will go towards the entire cost of the tag if you’re successful.
You dont have to front the tag cost in AZ?
Nope. Just make sure you have enough money for the tag on your credit/debit card during the draw period. If you get drawn and your card has issues, they’ll just move on and draw another person in your place. Happens to people every year
@antlerman5657 guess Im throwin my name in the hat hopin for some luck on 0 points haha
FYI.…PG+ is not lifetime, only 3 consecutive draws. Otherwise, accurate summary.
