    I learn by trial and error in back in 1993, that if you either; let the pine needles sit in a vinegar bath; 1 c. vinegar to 1 gal. water for 2 hours before putting them in the dye bath, Or added the vinegar into the dye bath, the dye gets absorbed much better into the needles and you would not have lost so much of the colour when you rinced the needles off after taking them out of the dye bath.

      Nancy could you soak in vinegar water after the boil bath, but before the dye/ glycerin bath?

      Yes, I’ve heard of that, I just don’t care for the smell. I’ve now used a product called Retayne that seems to help also. Have you noticed if the smell of vinegar lingers?
