      No they are Rit dye for Fabric or clothing. But hey try the hair dye, you might find it works. With all the wonderful colors they have now. Just know that the pine needles are a yellow base and you have to adjust for that. I use to be a hair dresser... ha ha. Would love to know if it works. Miriam Joy

    Hi Miriam! Thanks for doing your video's as you do an amazing job! I do have a question on dying the pine needles. I just tried to dye some needles a lime green color and they turned out black???? I'm not sure why? I have a roasting pan I used and it says not to put it on a glass top stove so I've been boiling water pouring into the roasting pan with needles and the dye and then leaving them in the over on 300 degrees for a few hours actually. What has gone wrong????

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much, Susan.
      You have remembered that pine needles are not white or like a blank canvas. They are already colored. Depending on the kind and what time of year they have harvested them, they are browns to a light green and usually have a yellow base color in them. So.... If you ever noticed that you hardly ever see bright colored pine needles. Maybe red and yellow but good blues and greens colors are tough. You have to have a white base to get those bright colors. I was talking with a lady last week and she tried hair dye. She did not send a picture but said she was definitely using the needles she colored. Good luck. Hope this helped.

    Mariam. Do you get the rit package that says whitening cause there is no rit in color white

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not have to be rit dye. It can be any type of dye. I will sometimes add a leather dye to mine to make them really pop. I honestly have not done the white dye yet. Try to pick the needles as bleached as you can. I have tried bleaching them as well and that does not do to much. Can you send me a picture of the color they are now at art@miriamjoy.com Is this the new rit colors?

    I like the pliability of the glycerin. Should I dye the needles first or glycerin them first? Or add the dye and glycerin to the dye?

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do it at the same time. Add the glycerin to the dye. I would Google it. There are several articles and videos on it. Thank you Miriam Joy

    Hi , I have followed instructions on your u tube and my needles still won't turn turquoise , the dark colors take, I am so upset I am in Florida and have the beautiful long needles. Thnx for any help

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason is the needles are a yellow base. You might try using a white to off set the yellow with the turquoise. Hope this helps. Florida has the best pine needles. God bless, Miriam Joy

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      After dying... It would affect absorption. There are videos out there for that way.

    Can you dye pinecones this way as well?

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your base color is a real dark brown. I do not think the color would show up that much. I might try bleaching it first then coloring it. With that said, I always tell people to try it. You might like a color wash. That might give you the color you are looking for. Mix your paint (acrylic) with water, the more water the lighter the color. Put it in a container that is just big enough to dip the pine cone. Let me know how it goes.

    How much dye to about a gallon of water?

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You use 2~ 8oz Rit Dyes per gallon or batch. I usually do not measure the water. I use as little as possible to cover the pine needles so that they dye brighter.
