Was in China for four years from 2017 and Express worked well for a couple of years, then gradually deteriorated, moved to Vypr which started well then also got worse over the covid period. Got back to uk 2 yr ago but now leaving for China again so glad I came across your views, will def try Astrill and let you know.

Yes, I second their advice! Betternet VPN is also okay for free options but Astrill is BEST.

Most of the VPNs work perfectly fine with Android and IOS. However, some app experience can be different.
After downloading VPN outside of China, can I wait till I get there to pay for service instead of ahead of time?

Looks like Nord Security bought out it's better-working but smaller competitor, Atlas and shut it down.

Does a astrill vpn still work in China today (20/05/2024)? I have read some recent review on App Store says it stopped working on iPhones. I’m going next week. Just want to make sure before I pay. It’s not the cheapest.

Ive been using letsvpn but its limited to 2 devices
It really does change all the time but Astrill and Lets should both work fine.
LetsVPN works in most of the time but it does not allow me to open certain websites though. So it really depends on where you browse online.

Hi! It is utterly difficult to download the VPN when one is in China already. Hence we advice to get the VPN setup before entering China.
That being said, I would advice to use a free VPN that works to buy the subscription of the VPN you would desire. In this case we advice Astrill!@@ireedui-mu3ng
@@ireedui-mu3ng At first, I didn't. I signed up for and downloaded the app before I went to China. But I also know of places that have "ladders" (to climb over the Great FireWall of China) on their public WiFi, so I can use those if mine ever stops working before I get another.

A lot of times you have to swipe through their sales pitch and they make it LOOK like it can’t be accessed free, but it can be! Same for Betternet VPN’s free version 🙄
