The IRONY. I've been to those so-called 'third-world countries, and rarely do they use manufactured wood as structures of their homes. In fact, most of their houses are either built in mud-concrete, clay, stones or concrete which would require a lot of manual work, and high-skilled labor. In case of a collapse, it's usually because of a high magnitude earthquakes or acts of nature.

If you lived in Cuba like most of these people who are either migrants from, or descendants from, because Miami is a migrant/immigrant haven, then you'd know about how often buildings collapse there, even when they're made of such materials, and being an actual third-world country. The way she used it was not incorrect. I was born in Cuba, btw. I now live in Miami as well. And nothing is ever reported from there because it's a communist country that silences media and doesn't allow it to get out into the world. You only get information through third-parties now, or know about things if you lived there.

I believe that what she meant was that here in the United States, buildings just don’t collapse on their own. It is usually due to a natural disaster (earthquake) and terrorism (911, Oklahoma).

As someone who lives in a ten-story building built in 1952 that has been poorly maintained and for the last 20 years with lots of water damage caused by never-ending leaks this is something, you try not to think about possible happening.

Was 160 earlier today. I highly doubt they pulled 60 people out. You can't trust anything anymore. People are dead. Thats it.
