      @Hugy Ugy I understand that word hero is thrown around a lot. But, parts of that building could have fallen on top of Nicholas, while he was trying to help that kid. And, for that reason, I call him a hero. He risked his life to help another.

    I'm outraged that this could have (and should have) been prevented since 3 years ago the building was inspected and it was noted that there was a lot wrong with it but no one fixed it or tore it down to rebuild. This is the direct result of people pushing things off.

      No matter how many such negative reports would come up, the State of Florida doens't go according to such regulations, that is why this is happening, something is wrong with the way they think and view politics in that State. No wonder is the State that gave much support to the insurrection of Juanuary 6

    • @willschultz5452
      @willschultz5452 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You can't tear it down it is owned by the tenants that live in it. It's worth millions and millions of dollars. The tenants were putting off fixing it because it was going to cost each tenant $80,000 and not everyone has that kind of money laying around. They were in the process of collecting the money from the tenants when the building collapsed

      I beg to differ- I consider him a hero, but the general public doesn't generally consider someone a hero unless they have the fire fighter or EMT/Paramedic uniform on. Believe it or not, about 1/4 of rescues in catastrophes like these ARE done by civilians. So, here's this if you would like to watch & share! Have a good day!
      Nicholas Balboa, here is a video edit tribute to your heroism! It has been sent to the Miami Herald. As a retired HFD 911 Central Command, Classified Civilian, I can tell you that lots of civilians are heroes & first responders. Thank you, good job!

    I've been following this news story on multiple channels. This is a tragedy, and my heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to everyone there. To the victims, and the first responders, and to everyone covering this tragedy. Still, it is disappointing to see that there are a few heartless trolls who are giving dislikes to the news coverage, or using it to push their political beliefs into this tragedy. It is sad to watch these cowards espouse their bias and hatred while hiding their identity since they refuse to stand by their comments, views, and beliefs. If you feel that much vitriol, then you should be willing to face your family, friends, and even your detractors without hiding. Of course, they will not do this, and if they are exposed, then they do everything they can to back pedal, deflect, or mitigate their words and actions. They will blatantly lie, and blame everything and everyone just so they do not have to admit the truth.

      They did the safest and best thing. Just jumping in without knowing what you are doing has a high probability of making things worse. It could have caused debris to shift and ended up killing the child. How would that have helped. The best thing to do was exactly what they did. Stay with the victim, reassure that help is on the way and alert the professionals to rescue the child.

      He did the right thing, if he had done more he could have caused the rubble to shift and crush the child, he was in the right place at the right time.

    • @Obsidian_Iris_

      Then the firefighters would’ve had an additional person to rescue and you could’ve made the situation worse. He did the absolute right thing by alerting the experts and comforting the child. This is real life, not a video game. You need to think before you act.

    Given this witness said "The ground shaking and rumble before the building partially collapse,..." , it look like some sinkholes under the building foundation but could not discovered during regular maintenance check-up . Just wonder during the structural inspections, do the inspectors have any kind of scanner to find any sinkholes or structural defects that can not found by visual check?

    • @gwynjustice2575

      There are sub-surface spaces usually left to run plumbing through whenever a building is being constructed. Typically those areas are filled with concrete supports though rather than being left mostly open. It wouldn't make sense to have a crawlspace under a building like that

    The way the floors pancaked indicates that the structure failed first at the very bottom, which when the support down there disappeared everything above began free-falling downward, almost as fast as a demolition crew could do it. If I lived in a building in the area built by the same people with the same structural design, I'd get out at least temporarily, too. Also, they should probably shut down the elevators in any buildings showing signs of structural damage, as the vibrations they make rushing up and down could probably trigger a failure in a building as badly structurally compromised as that one was.

    • @prettyprincess94602
      @prettyprincess94602 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They said it’s a sister building a block away. They were talking about evacuating that building until the structure is looked at.

    • @ahill4642
      @ahill4642 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points. And inspections 3 years ago showed signs of exactly what you describe. Cracks in the building, water in the parking area. The building owner will surely be sued into oblivion. Frankly they deserve jail for this level of neglect.

    • @chrissnyder8108
      @chrissnyder8108 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ahill4642 150+ of the "building owners" are currently buried under the rubble of their collapsed homes, already in oblivion. The apartments were not rented, they were owned mostly by their occupants. The Condo Association apparently felt the structural repairs detailed in the 2018 report were too expensive, so the majority voted against doing them immediately as the engineers who made the report suggested. Instead they kicked the can down the road until the state requirement for recertification at 40 years out from the completion of the building forced them to to start on the work this year, and they paid the price on the negligence of the maintenance of their homes.
