I've said that a hundred times but i'm so thankful for your loose leash walking method. It's the ONLY method that worked, i'm not kidding. Our dog never flies out the door anymore. He rarely pulls. And it's not only that. This method made him listen to me more in general and not only when it comes to walking on a leash, cause he senses i'm not playing around anymore!
Love the "not messing around" training methods. I've done all the fun, treat filled training methods and channels too and they definitely don't work for those hard- headed dogs. This channel is the best!
Hi I agree, I have gone to training classes and spent hours walking my two, trying the gentle method, treats, praises etc and if anything the male is getting worse.
I have a Labsky and an American Bulldog. If I didn’t take shit seriously, I would be getting bulldozed on a regular basis. The treat shit doesn’t work, at least for my dogs. My praise is more effective.
This is what I call “crack head energy.” Love these kinds of dogs because they’re so excited about life and being around you, but it also makes it even more imperative to teach them impulse control.
The gentle leader has been a godsend for my reactive cattle dog. I messed around with a lot of other channels and methods before. I think I'll stick with the "I'm not messing around channel."
The gentle leader did the same thing for me too! I can finally walk all THREE of my ACDs together all because of the gentle leader and his method. Sometimes I wish that I can walk without the gentle leaders but whatever lmao.
I'm sitting back in my chair in complete awe... No one could have done a better job with these dogs than you did. I have learned so much from you. I get so many complements from people when I take my 110 pound mastiff/ridgeback on a walk.. I owe that to you Mr. Beckman. You are a gifted dog trainer and that's why I call you Mr. Wonderdog..
@@gregchambers6100 this is the first time hearing of this Boerboel breed.. He looks a lot like them but my Tyson looks more like a light tan Bullmastiff. But the DNA test says he is mostly Mastiff and Ridgeback. When his hair on his back goes up, its dark black line from his head to his tail..

The other day Joel was talking about PRO-ACTIVE corrections & the importance of them & why it’s critical to PAY ATTENTION to our dogs and all the little signs that many of us miss. ESPECIALLY when we are handling more than one dog, we need to be focused, it’s our responsibility to keep our dogs & other people & their pets safe too
Can't agree more with you! Especially when people even walk their dog/s while texting or watching their phone. Hello!?! Is that the way you drive too? Put the phone down, and be present for your dog - is there a feral cat or squirrel, or another dog up ahead? Check your mirrors, including rear view ones. Step in front of your dog - tell the loose dog No! Go home! Right!?!

If people can’t communicate effectively with a 1000-2000 pound animal when their phone is impeding the communication what makes us think it would be any different with another animal, such as a dog? I've seen a couple of trainers over the years. Big, angry dogs and massive anxiety from both me and the dogs and for years I couldn't figure it out. When my giant dog lunges and drags me before I even know what's happening seemed impossible. I FINALLY GET IT THANKS TO YOU. He doesn't get to go if he leaves me! Omg! Finally! There are no words for my gratitude. 💖

Thanks for sharing this video. I have Akita/Akbash brother and sister 16 month old pups. She is 95 lbs and he is 120 lbs. Your methods have helped so much. Walks are better, attitudes are better, recall is better. I'm just fine tuning everything. They do feed off each other's energy and they're strong enough that when I'm walking them together they can pull me over if they go after something. It doesn't happen very often though because of your methods. 95% of our walks are loose leash. I can't thank you enough Joel! Thank you thank you thank you!
Yes, I agree. Two 100 lb Dobes, can actually walk with 2 fingers per leash. So great and Joel's videos are really game changers for us, our dogs, and the other dogs!
I just got back from a walk with my 2 huge mastiff/boxer cross/bitzer rescue dogs with lead reactivity. We got closer to a barking dog with no reaction than ever! It's a miracle!!

I really hope we get to see some follow up to these two. I have two Pyrenees mixes (both well over 100 lbs) and they are nearly impossible to walk together. Both are "in front" walkers. The older female (2-1/2) is the most stubborn dog I've ever met. The male (1-1/2) does pretty good by himself and I can let him off leash once I get away from the busy streets. Also, I'd like some advice for a spouse or significant other that doesn't have the same tenacity or outlook that is needed to fix the dog issues. That would probably make for an interesting video.
I saw a battery pack online somewhere that said “all day” on it I was like oh I need that for Joel lol but it wasn’t the whole thing I need the “we can do this all day”

So in awe.. I used to do a sort of "flipping" with horses. We would buy from want ads or auction, train, compete then resell at Gaming/gymkhana circuit events. I learned alot of similarities between horse learning curve and dogs. Horses are flighty and thus a good grip on trust and respect is vital. Dogs are so willing to please and quick to pick up on consistent direction. I was doing this in the early 80s and you sir are the only Dog trainer that makes so much sense to me. I love how you use dogs to assist in a way a human simply can't. Prince is awesome as was Bosco... poetry in motion those two! Just like horses we have to learn to speak/communicate in a way they understand and be amazed at how the respond. Thank you for these amazing videos. Two unruly teen/young adults that feed off each other's crazy goofball energy and you got them to understand and respect you. Flawless

He reacted to the Standard Poodle that was there. Just did a bup, bup, bup, took him to an out of sight area, until he was ready to go back to the meeting. Had my carpet square, clicker, treats - not another word from my Dobe, even when the Standard Poodle tried to egg him on. My boy would look at the other dog, not react, then look to me. Hello Joel, I'm so happy (and relieved) to find you have videos on how to handle a powerful dog!! I definitely must develop a tougher attitude with my rescue puppy (who I thought was a white Labrador but turns out to be a Pyrenees/Pitbull/American Bull Dog) mix! She is a sweet nine month old girl but VERY headstrong and physically powerful. While driving through the neighborhood yesterday she saw a couple of dogs running around in their front yard and she launched herself OUT OF THE BACK WINDOW of the car while it was moving!!!! Fortunately, she was not injured. I don't know how she managed it because the window was halfway up!! I've since purchased a very sturdy harness and an extention (2 feet) that clips into the seat belt buckle and the harness. I've owned big, strong dogs in my life (German Shepherd, Airedale, Labrador and a Chow) but I've never (ever) experienced anything like Stevie. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos - they are a tremendous help. I love your no- nonsense approach. Thank you.
I am so happy I found this channel. Since getting my dog, the only training I saw was positive reinforcement and it was NOT working. You shouldn’t have to damn near beg a dog to act right. It only took one day of this type of training and now my dog doesn’t pull. Ty so much!
This video is *very* helpful to me. I have only one dog; but, still, there is so much in it that helps me with my one, very strong, excitable, young dog. Among the many points you make is, "He respects strength." I need to keep that in mind.
there is not one thing that I don't like about your training methods, over the last month (since I discovered your site) I have learnt so much, and I'm not new to dogs, I've been training in IPO for over a year, had big dogs for 40 years, this is not a new style, it's how we trained our dogs years ago with excellent results but in recent times we've been guilted out by soft method trainers...so refreshing to see these no nonsense steps up here for the benefit for people struggling 😁
First those two dogs are gorgeous. Second, their owners are living my life. I have two Dane-Bulldog mixes and I recognized all of this. We have improved greatly working with them at thresholds, purchasing head collars (can you believe I just purchased them and they are 16 months and 100 pounds each ?!). Can’t wait to try that head holding move the next time we get ready for a walk!
These videos have helped me so much with my rambunctious American bulldog mix! The gentle positive-only training was great for my mellow greyhound, but the bulldog definitely needed stricter boundaries. He’s coming along so nicely. Thank you!!

This is amazing. Very helpful! I have a dog reactive doberman and a German shepherd, two females and they are both a little nuts. I walk them on either side but seeing other dogs is a challenge.
Thankfully I had seen this video before my new rescue got “ganged up” on by two sibling dogs at the dog park, they started to circle around my dog. They check in with each other like you said and take turns running up to my dog and nip at her and growl. I intervened and shut it down. They were feeding off of each other! Going into a “frenzy” and one of them started it and then the other one increased. Wow, so thankful for this video.
They weigh more than you do! Treats never helped my dog walk better on the leash. What a handful, but adorable dogs! I think I’m going to try walking my dog and his girlfriend next time I dog sit. She is quite a puller. I’ll let you know how it goes. I will work with her a bit first 🐕🦺
I'm so happy I found this channel! I've been working with my GSD daily for months now and she's still reactive on leash. She doesnt pull anymore, but the second she sees another dog, it's over. I've tried the treat methods and it works, as long as you have treats. Without them, she's almost worse than she was before. We came home from a walk this morning and I ended up in tears from being so unbelievably frustrated. Not with the dog, but with myself because I'm at a loss for how to help her. I CANNOT WAIT to try your tips. I'm positive it'll make a difference for us.

The learning channel. Yes! I have learned so much! I was just able to walk my lab mix with 6 deer within 6 feet of us and she didn't pull! Thanks to practicing your methods every time we hit the door now!
Like it - I love it! Your method has worked fantastically well with my giant breed Caucasian Shepherd- we go nowhere until I’m happy with her at the door and again at the gate. We have a few minutes of engagement training in the garden every time then we go on the walk - she walks brilliantly and it’s all down to you!
Just gotta say, this channel has worked better than any other for my 1 year old American Bully/ Pitbull mix who’s still intact. Treats and rewards simply don’t work when you have a dog that’s stubborn and dominant.

Amen. I have 2 Rottweilers, boy and girl. They aren't as bonded as these two lovely pups in the video. Adopted at different times. But my girl is the instigator on walks. I finally switched to a head halter and it's so much better when we pass dogs. I used to have a slip lead for her but she doesn't respect it. She pays more attention now. Easier to tell her "here we arent going to see that dog". She LOVES little dogs. Almost pulled me over at the vet to meet a little dog. It's great she's a friendly dog but shes big and doesn't know her size. And I'm not gonna walk around with a rotti pulling me around. No way. She does better when we dont walk with my boy but like you said they feed off eachother and we she reacts, he reacts. So, Love this video. Makes me feel better about switching to the head halter. Thank you for this!
Would love to see more on these two when walking out in the neighborhood. We’ve got two same scenario large breeds and they feed of each other when walking together. When walking alone they are fine and can be controlled.

Lol, she's stubborn. She lowered her tail a little bit after he put on the leash, but she was just waiting for him to give her the tiniest opening. She finally lowered her tail about 6 minutes into the walk. Ha! Yeah, I like this guy. I just subbed.

I want to thank you, Joel. Your videos have helped me to have a better relationship with my dog. It’s a rottweiler, I honestly have lots of criticism about having a large powerful dog. I have three daughters, and when the topic arises the first question is when is the dog going for training. I have found in your channel a guide, and I love that you repeat the exercises with different breeds, different levels of reactivity, and beyond being boring or tedious, I find it reaffirming and instructive. I was not able to walk my dog without almost ripping my arm when he sees another dog, but I bought a gentle leader (by the way they should pay you) and with the guide of your videos, now the walk is better for both. I just want my dog to be a dog, not to do tricks or anything, he is so smart and lovely, he is in the house all day and is like a gentle big bear, loved by everyone. He behaves and thanks to your advice, we are a happy family. Thanks again, keep up the good work!
That's great! Have you seen Joel's Rottweiler video? It's like the foundation video for leash reactivity. My stepdaughter has a Rottweiler and a Dobe. They say they'll never have any other breeds.

Have you done them one at a time first? I've done a No Bark or the walk is over - your choice. The very first time you say it and they bark though, you have to follow through. Too bad, you blew it, walk's over. The next walk, all you have to do is say No Bark or the walk is over. You can actually see their brains thinking about it. Do I really want to go home or do I want to keep walking with Mom? Have also used, No Bark, that's his job - he's guarding his yard. You'd do the same thing if that was your yard - for those dogs barking in their own yard. My guys will whimper and we continue on our walk. Joel sometimes does a let's just get through it and sometimes does 180 degree turns until the dog is on your page. Proactive stops to see if they're going to leave you or at least stop with you and/or check in with you. Hope that helps.

@@karenramirez7856 I guess recruit your help. If you can, give the dog at home a marrow bone or a stuffed Kong. Try jollying the walking dog up. Make it a fun thing for the walking dog to be out walking with everyone. Think people do their dogs a dis-service by not letting the dogs be ok by themselves. There may come a time when the one has to be at the vet office without the other dog. Check out Joel's satiation method too for separation anxiety. My stepdaughter found she had to walk the younger dog first otherwise she could hear him howling at home if she took the older female first.

Khia is our 10 month old; she is an awesome dog and has already learned many commands!! We allowed for her to fly out the door for walks but not now!!!!!… in a matter of a fews days( after doing this training we watched on your channel) she’s already more calm and knows that she’s not going unless she’s cool!!! Excellent video. I have sibling Boxers who have probably been the hardest dogs to train that I have ever had. My boy dog is reactive on leash when other dogs bark at them, but largely when my girl reacts nervously he will get quickly over hyped. but following your two large dog walking method recently, and this video , I am already seeing huge improvements. Thanks for your work.
Thank you for this ! I have a reactive golden doodle . She is amazing off leash but onleash she behaves like shes going to tear someones head off . I have tried everything with her so I am looking forward to trying this technique . Recently adopted a sweet pointer mix and i see he's feeding off her so I will be doing it with both!
This is literally my situation. They’re still “pups” like 6 months but those 2 girls are soo crazy! They also sound super aggressive when they bark at people but they really are sweet

Very helpful video! I do daily walks with two 2-year old Great Dane littermate siblings and have encountered the craziness that comes when one feeds off the energy of the other. Your on-leash technique has really helped me keep their attention on me and not on other distractions (i.e. other dogs).

The older female (2-1/2) is the most stubborn dog I've ever met. The male (1-1/2) does pretty good by himself and I can let him off leash once I get away from the busy streets.
Also, I'd like some advice for a spouse or significant other that doesn't have the same tenacity or outlook that is needed to fix the dog issues. That would probably make for an interesting video.
I saw a battery pack online somewhere that said “all day” on it I was like oh I need that for Joel lol but it wasn’t the whole thing I need the “we can do this all day”

So in awe.. I used to do a sort of "flipping" with horses. We would buy from want ads or auction, train, compete then resell at Gaming/gymkhana circuit events. I learned alot of similarities between horse learning curve and dogs. Horses are flighty and thus a good grip on trust and respect is vital. Dogs are so willing to please and quick to pick up on consistent direction. I was doing this in the early 80s and you sir are the only Dog trainer that makes so much sense to me. I love how you use dogs to assist in a way a human simply can't. Prince is awesome as was Bosco... poetry in motion those two! Just like horses we have to learn to speak/communicate in a way they understand and be amazed at how the respond. Thank you for these amazing videos. Two unruly teen/young adults that feed off each other's crazy goofball energy and you got them to understand and respect you. Flawless
Lol, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle! Awesome video as usual, Joel. Refer my students regularly, especially with older dogs that the owners have had a while. Just took my older Dobe to our dog club meeting. He reacted to the Standard Poodle that was there. Just did a bup, bup, bup, took him to an out of sight area, until he was ready to go back to the meeting. Had my carpet square, clicker, treats - not another word from my Dobe, even when the Standard Poodle tried to egg him on. My boy would look at the other dog, not react, then look to me. Yes! - click treat. TY for checking in, Dude!

I'm so happy (and relieved) to find you have videos on how to handle a powerful dog!! I definitely must develop a tougher attitude with my rescue puppy (who I thought was a white Labrador but turns out to be a Pyrenees/Pitbull/American Bull Dog) mix! She is a sweet nine month old girl but VERY headstrong and physically powerful. While driving through the neighborhood yesterday she saw a couple of dogs running around in their front yard and she launched herself OUT OF THE BACK WINDOW of the car while it was moving!!!! Fortunately, she was not injured. I don't know how she managed it because the window was halfway up!! I've since purchased a very sturdy harness and an extention (2 feet) that clips into the seat belt buckle and the harness.
I've owned big, strong dogs in my life (German Shepherd, Airedale, Labrador and a Chow) but I've never (ever) experienced anything like Stevie.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos - they are a tremendous help. I love your no- nonsense approach.

I am so happy I found this channel. Since getting my dog, the only training I saw was positive reinforcement and it was NOT working. You shouldn’t have to damn near beg a dog to act right. It only took one day of this type of training and now my dog doesn’t pull. Ty so much!

there is not one thing that I don't like about your training methods, over the last month (since I discovered your site) I have learnt so much, and I'm not new to dogs, I've been training in IPO for over a year, had big dogs for 40 years, this is not a new style, it's how we trained our dogs years ago with excellent results but in recent times we've been guilted out by soft method trainers...so refreshing to see these no nonsense steps up here for the benefit for people struggling 😁
First those two dogs are gorgeous. Second, their owners are living my life. I have two Dane-Bulldog mixes and I recognized all of this. We have improved greatly working with them at thresholds, purchasing head collars (can you believe I just purchased them and they are 16 months and 100 pounds each ?!). Can’t wait to try that head holding move the next time we get ready for a walk!
These videos have helped me so much with my rambunctious American bulldog mix! The gentle positive-only training was great for my mellow greyhound, but the bulldog definitely needed stricter boundaries. He’s coming along so nicely. Thank you!!

This is amazing. Very helpful! I have a dog reactive doberman and a German shepherd, two females and they are both a little nuts. I walk them on either side but seeing other dogs is a challenge.

Thankfully I had seen this video before my new rescue got “ganged up” on by two sibling dogs at the dog park, they started to circle around my dog. They check in with each other like you said and take turns running up to my dog and nip at her and growl. I intervened and shut it down. They were feeding off of each other! Going into a “frenzy” and one of them started it and then the other one increased. Wow, so thankful for this video.

Yeah I have used steak, roast beef, liverwurst even on walks. Dog's couldn't care less.
I'm so happy I found this channel! I've been working with my GSD daily for months now and she's still reactive on leash. She doesnt pull anymore, but the second she sees another dog, it's over. I've tried the treat methods and it works, as long as you have treats. Without them, she's almost worse than she was before. We came home from a walk this morning and I ended up in tears from being so unbelievably frustrated. Not with the dog, but with myself because I'm at a loss for how to help her. I CANNOT WAIT to try your tips. I'm positive it'll make a difference for us.

Would love to see more with two dogs working together! Have two that are both pretty great on their own but they do definitely build on each other and get over excited when meeting other dogs or even just trying to teach obedience/tricks in the same space.

The learning channel. Yes! I have learned so much! I was just able to walk my lab mix with 6 deer within 6 feet of us and she didn't pull! Thanks to practicing your methods every time we hit the door now!
Like it - I love it! Your method has worked fantastically well with my giant breed Caucasian Shepherd- we go nowhere until I’m happy with her at the door and again at the gate. We have a few minutes of engagement training in the garden every time then we go on the walk - she walks brilliantly and it’s all down to you!
Love seeing you managing the two dogs, I dog-sit three so this is really helpful.
Just gotta say, this channel has worked better than any other for my 1 year old American Bully/ Pitbull mix who’s still intact. Treats and rewards simply don’t work when you have a dog that’s stubborn and dominant.

Amen. I have 2 Rottweilers, boy and girl. They aren't as bonded as these two lovely pups in the video. Adopted at different times. But my girl is the instigator on walks. I finally switched to a head halter and it's so much better when we pass dogs. I used to have a slip lead for her but she doesn't respect it. She pays more attention now. Easier to tell her "here we arent going to see that dog". She LOVES little dogs. Almost pulled me over at the vet to meet a little dog. It's great she's a friendly dog but shes big and doesn't know her size. And I'm not gonna walk around with a rotti pulling me around. No way. She does better when we dont walk with my boy but like you said they feed off eachother and we she reacts, he reacts. So, Love this video. Makes me feel better about switching to the head halter. Thank you for this!
Would love to see more on these two when walking out in the neighborhood. We’ve got two same scenario large breeds and they feed of each other when walking together. When walking alone they are fine and can be controlled.

Lol, she's stubborn. She lowered her tail a little bit after he put on the leash, but she was just waiting for him to give her the tiniest opening. She finally lowered her tail about 6 minutes into the walk. Ha! Yeah, I like this guy. I just subbed.

I want to thank you, Joel. Your videos have helped me to have a better relationship with my dog. It’s a rottweiler, I honestly have lots of criticism about having a large powerful dog. I have three daughters, and when the topic arises the first question is when is the dog going for training. I have found in your channel a guide, and I love that you repeat the exercises with different breeds, different levels of reactivity, and beyond being boring or tedious, I find it reaffirming and instructive. I was not able to walk my dog without almost ripping my arm when he sees another dog, but I bought a gentle leader (by the way they should pay you) and with the guide of your videos, now the walk is better for both. I just want my dog to be a dog, not to do tricks or anything, he is so smart and lovely, he is in the house all day and is like a gentle big bear, loved by everyone. He behaves and thanks to your advice, we are a happy family. Thanks again, keep up the good work!
That's great! Have you seen Joel's Rottweiler video? It's like the foundation video for leash reactivity. My stepdaughter has a Rottweiler and a Dobe. They say they'll never have any other breeds.

Have you done them one at a time first? I've done a No Bark or the walk is over - your choice. The very first time you say it and they bark though, you have to follow through. Too bad, you blew it, walk's over. The next walk, all you have to do is say No Bark or the walk is over. You can actually see their brains thinking about it. Do I really want to go home or do I want to keep walking with Mom? Have also used, No Bark, that's his job - he's guarding his yard. You'd do the same thing if that was your yard - for those dogs barking in their own yard. My guys will whimper and we continue on our walk. Joel sometimes does a let's just get through it and sometimes does 180 degree turns until the dog is on your page. Proactive stops to see if they're going to leave you or at least stop with you and/or check in with you. Hope that helps.

@@karenramirez7856 I guess recruit your help. If you can, give the dog at home a marrow bone or a stuffed Kong. Try jollying the walking dog up. Make it a fun thing for the walking dog to be out walking with everyone. Think people do their dogs a dis-service by not letting the dogs be ok by themselves. There may come a time when the one has to be at the vet office without the other dog. Check out Joel's satiation method too for separation anxiety. My stepdaughter found she had to walk the younger dog first otherwise she could hear him howling at home if she took the older female first.

Love This video!!! Learned a lot from this video! My husband and I are Rottweiler owners and we need all the training we can get!!!! Khia is our 10 month old; she is an awesome dog and has already learned many commands!! We allowed for her to fly out the door for walks but not now!!!!!… in a matter of a fews days( after doing this training we watched on your channel) she’s already more calm and knows that she’s not going unless she’s cool!!! Looking forward to so much more training and knowledge!!!!

Excellent video. I have sibling Boxers who have probably been the hardest dogs to train that I have ever had. My boy dog is reactive on leash when other dogs bark at them, but largely when my girl reacts nervously he will get quickly over hyped. but following your two large dog walking method recently, and this video , I am already seeing huge improvements. Thank you for this ! I have a reactive golden doodle . She is amazing off leash but onleash she behaves like shes going to tear someones head off . I have tried everything with her so I am looking forward to trying this technique . Recently adopted a sweet pointer mix and i see he's feeding off her so I will be doing it with both!

Very helpful video! I do daily walks with two 2-year old Great Dane littermate siblings and have encountered the craziness that comes when one feeds off the energy of the other. Your on-leash technique has really helped me keep their attention on me and not on other distractions (i.e. other dogs).
