I was baptised there June 12th I think ,remember brother Knorr giving Sunday public talk .I travelled up from Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire with 3 friends in a 1948 vauxhall 14 /6 that I paid 40£for , myself and another brother stayed at portabellow other side of the city ,can't see myself in the film ,it brings back such happy memories .
There! You went for a valuable occasion in a , (although you wouldn`t have considered it at the time), a valuable car. I suppose it got scrapped like everything else, back then. What a shame! All the best. Bev Wood
My mother and I played in the orchestra, (violins) - along with so many I remember but whose names escape me. Let me think. Ray Langford,, violin Stan and Grace Agombar, (violin) Duncan Campbell, (trumpet), Don Rendell (saxophone) - John Williams ,(conductor) Possibly David Hazel, (violin and Valerie Mc Clane (spelling?-violin John Gogh, (spelling - clarinet) Joe Harrison. (trombone). Many others, of course - and, again, many of these ones now awaiting the resurrection. They were certainly different times - but very valuable times!
We had a Ken Goff who played clarinet in Teddington congregation. I believe he did some work for Thames TV. The amount of preparation that went into these conventions was phenomenal. We had travelling overseers stay with us April to August doing preconvention activities. My parents hosted a Circuit Overseer named Joe Wood and his wife Margaret stay. Wonderful people.
The best Convention platform ever; they used the long side, unusually. Especially the landscaping and the brilliant painted stonework. The rotating Bible displays were really something… if I remember correctly, it was the work of David Gibson and Ian Gell. They even made “wrought ironwork” with tightly curved wood.
John Blaney had a brother, Martin, who was our CO back in the 1950's. I cannot remember him as I was too young but he was quite a character by all accounts.
Beautiful video. Thanks for posting .

Wow! Live symphony, too! Love these videos. Especially the chubby baby clips. :)

I never knew that -- so interesting! I will let others who remember John, know and see if they remember his brother! Was he anything like John???
I used to go there as a child in the 70s! To the Conventions.
Memories
Oh, how sweet back then
Looking that was actually emotional to me...
