  • The Army's Corrections and Detention Specialist plays an integral role in providing a uniform system of handling prisoners and detainees. First and always, these MPs are combat support soldiers trained to fight. Then as a Corrections and Detention Specialist, they are trained to control and supervise detainees to ensure humane treatment, and to assist them in returning to a productive life.

I was an Army MP way back when our MOS was still 95-Bravo, and the Correctional Specialists were 95-Charlies. Those guys E-5 promotion points were only 450, while ours were 998. I saw one guy who arrived at Ft. Bragg around the same time as me, and we were both E-1 privates straight of jump school at Ft. Benning. Two years later he was putting on his E-5 stripes at the same time I was putting on my E-4 shield.

Calling in sick anytime you want doesn't exist in the military. I get 26 sick days yearly. They can be sold back upon retiring. Overtime pay after 8 hours which increases our pension, holiday pay whether you work one or not, night differential (12% of base pay), union representation, qualified immunity when something goes wrong, longevity pay ($650 per-year of service paid once yearly) LE status and the right to carry off-duty, and take-home cars for bosses don't exist in the Army. @@trader-matt

I saw and treated patients at Munson Army Hospital. Those inmates were brought to me from the disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, KS. They were transported in shackles of both the ankles and wrists. They were never removed (in my presence). They were always accompanied with two armed guards. I was a surgical resident at Munson Army Hospital and Wadsworth VA Hospital. During the Vietnam War.
These men were unfailingly and deeply appreciative of my medical (and surgical) services. Most had skin infections and other painful lesions. I never felt at any risk in being alone with them. They never failed to thank me profusely and often. I always introduced myself and asked permission to treat them. I think they were shocked by my question. Even when I injected them and operated on them, they NEVER complained.
At NO time was I ever informed of why they were inmates. I received copies of their updated medical records, but they never had information about the charges against them. It was just a typical medical chart. I was not permitted inside of the Barracks. I never asked. I was only a surgical resident. I had no authority.

I was a guard that probably brought you a few. It was just as awful to be in that profession. I was a 31B attached to the 31E world. It ruined my military career & stole my soul by the end. Ive spent time on the other side if the bars years later when my mental health declined & I was deemed unfit for society. That’s what I got out of this MOS. Some of my deployment brothers aren’t here anymore. High speed soldiers too. Gone by their own hands.

We get union protection, qualified immunity, rights to carry off-duty, and bosses get take-home cars. We get free medical and dental, uniforms, tuition assistance, gym membership, part-time employment, personal leave time, Veteran's Days off, night differential at 12% of base, holiday pay if worked or not, longevity -pay ($650 per year, lump sum), and no hassles when calling in sick (28 sick days yearly). We have a Gang Sqd, transportation team, applicant investigation team, our own people investigating us during complaints, academy staff, officer-staffed-FD, CERT teams, CO-K9 division, correctional counselors, case workers, prison factory positions, and other positions only held by correctional officers. Who signs up for the Army saying to themselves ‘I want to jail, imprison my fellow comrades and treat them like animals’? We have a prison overpopulation issue and notice how this MOS advertisement is entirely focused on punishment and manhandling inmates? America should be ashamed of the fact that there’s no emphasis on rehabilitation but rather punishment, punishment, and more punishment.
