    If safety was important then lowing your lift to a safe limit off the floor and laying on your back or backs would have been the way to go if laughter was your goal then you got that but showing us the wrong most unsafe way to do this, then yes you nailed it. keep up the good work guys

      Actually, showing how to install the transmission was tops on our list. Hard to do 20 inches off the floor.

    I bolt a boxed end wrench through a bell housing hole to hold torque converters in. Yup, I have about a dozen 2ft long chunks of RR ties. Just got done installing an engine in a 05 mustang with the ties. Laying on th ground doing things like that is alot less fun at 60 years old.

    I put the car or truck on the lift and use my engine hoist. I built a mounting plate for the engine hoist and this works great for removing transmissions and installing them.

    In the same position you were in (same lift) instead of the trans jack being on that metal plate and having to gorilla it off, we had the jack on a metal rolling cart (two 4 x 4's under it on the cart), jacked up under the pan, so when we pulled it BACK , it was already on a secure platform. Then you raise the lift roll that puppy right out of there. Try that when you have to put it back in :-0) Problem where you had it on the metal cross plate, no way to lower it off and roll it out (and Cam takes a bath...lol)

    It’s good you guys have the jack bridge. With a 2-post lift, you almost need two trans jacks to do the job right, support the engine, and make those fine adjustments it always seems to take when you put the thing back in.

      We're using the transmission jack now. Came in the afternoon after this video. Lol

    I have done many transmissions with the car on jack stands and it is not fun. When I was a tech the shop had in ground lifts. I like them far more than the current post lifts but when I get one for home it will be a 2 post asymmetric lift. More for resto work so lifting bodies off frames is common.
    I knew a guy with an old K5 blazer. The trans went out on the freeway. He got a ride went and bought a new trans and swapped it on the side of the freeway. A couple hours later and he was on his way again.

    checked comments to see if anyone had similar questions as me regarding the shift arms (the knuckles attached to eachother on driver side that come from a automatic shifter not sure what its called tho ) as I have to replace an engine and its out but I've heard removing the trans is easier when trying to realign the engine back in but comments are pretty disrespectful its a good video and it's right to the point just throwing that out there.

    i don't know how that car lift works, but I would have lowered the car after everything was disconnected and used a large floor jack under the tranny to drop it. But, I'd also be doing it by myself so it would be a balancing act, just not as heavy for me.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's certainly another option for taking the transmission out. However we bought the transmission jack just specifically for this kind of work.

    I need to isolate a vibration. Do you think it's possible to slide the torque converter back towards the trans (after removing nuts) and clear the flex plate? I'd like to start the eng with the TC disconnected and narrow down my vibe problem.

    Hello i 67 mustang 6inline and i need a speedometer cable. national parts Depot is asking me what kind of transmission i have? A 3 speed automatic? i said. But that wasn't enough information for the NPD guy. His only words were you need to do more research before calling. He was of not much help at all. Now i dnt know what kind of transmission i have other then a 3 speed automatic.
    Could you please guide on what to look for when identifying my tranny so can call National parts again with the right information... Please and thanks you.

    Why are you always working on your mom's station wagon ? I don't care for it much.
    And is the new one going to leak as bad as the old one ? How long does that usually take ?
    And if you stop the video at 4:30 it's really funny.
    And did you nail those 4x4's together ? Or fasten them together somehow ? I don't want to watch the whole video.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Welp some points Mr. Fun Time my mom died last year, the wagon is mine; I do golf clap your attempt at being funny. The wagon is a vehicle that, as I have explained, we bought to do car to car from. The 4R70W is a final part of that. Another point: I don't believe you are forced to watch this show, so, when your visual foe is on, find a nice cuddly video for that week. Most everything on that wagon we are doing crosses over to Torino and Fairlane hardtops so the spectrum is larger than you might think. As to the 4x4s you figure it out, I don't feel like answering your whole question. Have a fun day.

      You do realize that that is how we pay our bills to DO these fine videos. Why is it that some folks think I should work for free, but they would balk at doing that? Hmmmm? Come on KnP B, go into work tomorrow and declare that you will toil for 70 hours a week for free for 10 years. Do it. I double dog dare you.

    • @red03golf

      @@AutoRestoMod It doesn't need to be using a 2 minute infomercial. TV execs figured out 50 years ago viewers can barely tolerate 15 second commercials. TH-camrs need to follow the examples of the industry's giants; 2 minute infomercials are abhorrent. No one except the executives at the company you're touting wants to hear about those products for 2 minutes. If you want to make a bigger impact, use the company's name 3 or 4 times within the entire video. Repetition peppered in a presentation has greater sticking power and influence than an infomercial.
      I never said you should work for free - don't make assumptions and don't put words in my mouth, I'm capable of finding my own words.
