    I have two black live wires on my Kasa switch but only one black live wire in my wall. What should I do with the extra black wire from the Kasa switch? It's 3 wires in total that comes from my wall (the copper ground wire, a single black wire, and a single white wire,) I do not have a bunch of wires bundled up in my wall. I only have the 3 wires in the wall, black, copper, and white. But 4 wires on the Kasa switch 2 black live wires, 1 green for copper, and 1 white for neutral. When I tried connecting both live wires from the Kasa switch, to the one single black wire coming from the wall, it does not work. My light comes on very dim and it's NOT a dimming light. And, the Kasa switch makes a clicking sound that won't stop when I try to reset it. The same thing happens when I leave the extra black wire hanging from the Kasa switch. Do I tie connect the extra black live wire from the Kasa switch to another wire from the wall like, to the ground or, the white wire? Or, maybe the black and white wires in the wall are both live wires and I don't have a neutral 🤔. I hope that ain't the case. Please help me.

    I changed routers. The old router setup took about 4 hours for two switches because the app is full of holes. Then I made the mistake of changing routers. I'm now at the 3 hour mark and still "press the reset button and make sure your phone is connected to the router". Duh for the 50th time. Still cannot get it connected to the new router. This is for either of the 200-2 switches.

    I have questions I can't seem to find the answer to:
    -Can I use the HS200 to control other TP-Link smart devices, such as the HS100 and LB100? I'd to install a light switch that can turn on more lights in a room than what are currently wired to the switch, but I'd like to know if this is possible before purchasing.
    -One of the switches I'm considering replacing is dimable. Will I still be able to dim my lights after installing the HS200?

    • @mannybborges
      @mannybborges 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good questions . I am getting some switches and plugs delivered in the next few days so I can update if I am mistaken. My current expectation is that you can control the outlets the hs100s are running from with a switch, but be prepared for delays in operation as the plugs power on and hopefully reconnect to wifi. I am not planning on doing this except as a test. I am unsure what the benefit would be to having the switch and lb110s paired. It seems to add an unneeded hop in troubleshooting.
      But to be clear, since your wording seems to suggest otherwise, the switch only controls power to what ever is on the physical circuit. The "controller" is the cloud account and smartphone. Each device is an independent device and has no knowledge of the other devices. So you need to use a smartphone or other device like an echo ( what I am using) or google home, to operate multiple devices with one command. I think :) .

    • @JeanPierreWhite
      @JeanPierreWhite 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The TP-Link device are independent to each other and controlled remotely only via a smart phone app or personal assistant like Amazon Echo. TP-Link devices have a hardware switch so you can operate them without any special technology, like if your WiFi was out of order.
      Just buy one smart switch per light t control. If you get the TP_link Smart Plug it is possible to plug more than one free standing lamp into it. I've done this successfully.

      This device is made to work with a single pole switch. The two black wires are one coming in for power then one going out to the device to power it. If you only have black, white and a ground then it is not a single pole switch. If you only have the three wires then that means that you have multiple switches on the circuit and this device was not made for that.

    • @heathdalton6774

    • @jefftiburon
      @jefftiburon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John. is there a way to change the wiring? If the switch is at the end of a series, meaning, the wire goes to the light before it ends at the switch? Like can I disconnect from the light, pull it down to the switch first then rewire it making it end at the light?? And did that make any sense lol sorry

  • @CrawfordMethod
    @CrawfordMethod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    These wiring instructions could lead to a dangerous situation. There could be current from other circuits flowing through the neutral connection. When you remove the wire nut on the neutral wire, the wires may come apart. At this point one or more of the wires can give you a deadly shock.
    Most modern electric codes are written to eliminate this danger, there should be no "shared neutrals", but there are millions of existing
    houses out there with neutrals shared between multiple circuits.

    • @mannybborges

      I noticed they said " have a voltage tester" but never really said when you should actually check to see if you have live wires. I assume, every time you go to touch it. Would that mitigate the issue? ( I sure hope so, since my 120 yo home has what is generally called " a f##king mess")
