  • If you have basic knowledge and skills related to home electrical work you are capable of installing smart switches in your home. These are devices which replace the standard light switches in the home with switches which are connected to a home WiFi network. This allows you to control those switches using smart phones and tablets, potentially from anywhere in the world where an Internet connection is available.
I chose the KASA smart switch products because they were readily available at the places where I normally shop and the prices were very attractive. For less than $18 per switch (and as low as $12 each when I purchased a package of three) I had all I needed to upgrade the way I controlled my home's lights. The KASA app allows me to turn lights on and off remotely, of course. It also allows me to schedule individual switches and/or groups of switches to turn on and off at pre-programmed times, including times which automatically adjust in relation to sunrise and sunset changes.
In an upcoming video I'll show how to install a KASA 3-way Smart Switch and I'll have a more in depth look at how the app works.

Thanks for the heads up on these switches & G'afternoon my friend ☕☕☕ 🙃 . I've seen segments on several switches like these on This Old House and ask this old house but haven't had the chance to play with any of them as of yet, interesting stuff 🙃 ..

At first I thought the switch boxes in my house did not contain the neutral (white) and ground wires but when I removed the switch I saw the wires tucked in the back. There are smart switches which say, on the package, whether or not they need the neutral wire. I don’t know exactly how they work when they don’t use a neutral wire but, again, those products exist.

@@GoodTimekeeper yeah, wish that were true for me. My building is quite old, and I have been told there aren’t even ground wires in the boxes. The switch box is metal, so maybe that acts as the ground. But definitely no third “neutral” wire either. Just two black wires.
