Subbed, I don't understand why they didn't just adapt the first game, make the movie cell shaded/animated as this world is to extreme to do well in live action, IMO, bring in Brick, Mordecai, Roland and Lilith, easy set up, 4 vault hunters, looking for a huge treasure in something called a "Vault" on a planet called Pandora, boom, there's the plot, make it Rated-R, add in iconic lines from the game's, make the cast AGE APPROPRIATE, maybe casting little or unknown actors in the roles, (that are either actually fans of the world, or, have at least played through it once and knows the characters well), bring in the VA from the game's for Claptrap, and you have yourself a hit. They could do the Pre-Sequel next if they so choose, as a film adaption, maybe even Tales from The Borderlands somewhere in the mix of these films too. The 2nd main film could bring in Zero, Maya, and the other VH's from BL2, meeting Tiny Tina for the first time, adding the DLC stories as side adventures within the film, (no reason to have any "fluff" or trying to "make up things for the characters to do between plot beats"), and ending the 2nd film after Fight for Sanctuary. So much potential, squandered by people who not only didn't care about any accuracy at all with characters, (including Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox, he clearly didn't care that this film was being butchered), but had zero knowledge of what the heart of the game's and this world means to us gamers who love playing the Borderlands games to this day, I'll give it maybe 5-8 years, maybe they'll try again, have it done right, and then I can look forward to going to the movies to see this. 🤷🏾♂️

There are like two good shots in the movie, both of which take place in "Caustic Caverns." The first is a panning shot of Lilith firing both guns at once, from opposite sides. The second was when Roland was taking on the bandit horde and you see their arms kind of surge around him as he's firing into their midst. Two scenes that were kind of cool, and I'm pretty sure both were derivative
Borderlands 2 was peak BL. Once David Eddings (Claptrap's voice actor, not the author) got screwed by Randy it all went downhill fast. BL 3 was a souless cash grab, and I don't see things improving anytime soon. That said, I can't rave enough about BL 2. I spent hundreds of hours with friends rampaging around Pandora and it is my favorite FPS and in my top 10 games list.

I'm surprised you didn't spend more time on the abysmal casting. That, to me, trumps almost everything else in the "sins" category of this movie. When adapting existing IP, it's imperative that you bring in actors who closely resemble that which you're attempting to portray. These are ESTABLISHED characters that people have grown to love over dozens or hundreds or even thousands of hours of gameplay. They're not going to suspend their disbelief and just accept that suddenly Lillith, the hot punk chick, is suddenly a bitter 57 year old woman. They're not going to accept that Roland, the stoic man-mountain soldier is suddenly a 5'2" comedian known for being ANYTHING but stoic. The list goes on. It's like they purposely tried to go out of their way to cast the worst possible cast for this movie. Even operating under the "they wanted star-power" assumption, there are loads of recognizable A-list and B-list actors/actresses out there who fit these descriptions/characters 10000% more. It feels like a blatant slap to the face to not only the fans of the franchise, but any commoner walking into the movie to experience the Borderlands world for the first time. Can you imagine watching this movie, buying the game for the first time (which is why these movies are made, let's not kid ourselves) and being like.... "WAIT.... these are the characters I just watched???" It would be utter culture shock.

Hot take: borderlands was never good. Sheisty “yikes” in and of itself is pretty reddit though but this guy makes good videos and I’ll give him a pass for the reddit thumbnail.
Hot take: borderlands was never good. The first game was an extremely bland and boring coop shooter, the second game was basically the same but with cringey forced internet references thrown in ad nauseam (shit like “epic!” And “for the win!” And “epic troll!”- it’s literally just 2010s Reddit humor, so pretty much the most embarrassing thing possible), the games after 2 were just failed attempts at recapturing the success of the 2nd game and now we have a Kevin hart/jack black summer comedy film of it which is neither fun, original or funny. The least you could give the games was that they were fun to play w friends if nothing else, but shockingly if you take all the gameplay out it’s suddenly not fun anymore.
