On a side note: I find it highly disturbing how so many Welsh people find it totally okay with being told they are nobodies who came from nobodies, when in reality it’s completely the opposite. And Often told to them by the descendants of people who took over their country by force. The fact remains that The monarchies of most of Europe sent their Children to study in Wales under the bards, and many still do. The first church in Rome was the British church, and the first bishop Was Linus. The Britons (Welsh) were anything but “Nobodies”. The crux of it is as such - The culture of Wales was just as refined as any contemporary culture. The fact that an Hungarian knows more about Wales than your average Welsh person shows how much of a good job The English education system did in Wales. Let’s not forget, the Term Welsh is of Germanic origin and has little to no relation to the Cymru Britons and their language, and effectively “Welsh”, as a distinct culture is rather new and a direct result of English policies towards the country and its people.
That “Glorious” past was fundamentally true! As the British monarchy had intermarried with Romans for centuries up until the Gratian usurped the Emperorship off the Western Line under Magnus Maximus (Macsen Wledig). This lineage stretched from Caradog in the 1st century to Iestyn Ap Gwrgan in the 11th century. This is also why The Welsh of the Middle ages called themselves Princes and why the English of the time had it out for them. The last Monarch to recognise this history was Owain Glyndwr, and as such flew the Gold Dragon on a field of White to signify such allegiance, as opposed to the Red.
A story about bards being prosecuted and their way of life, being outlawed described through analogy of the king putting them to death is very…. Bard of them.
