My mom and I just changed out our light fixture in our office. This is a great guide. I was really uncomfortable with the idea of us doing it ourselves until this video. Thank you for what you do.
This video is so old that the 'old looking' light i'm removing looks like the new one you are adding here! Regardless it really helped me. Thanks alot for this 9 years later still helping people.
It's June 21, 2024 and I need to replace my kitchen ceiling light fixture. Came across your video and now I feel a lot better about doing ours. Thank you!
Very helpful video. I am not experienced at all doing this and am not sure where/what you attached the new ground wire to up in the ceiling hole. I'm guessing I will need to add a ground as my building is old. Excellent filming too, nice close ups so we can really see what you are doing.Thank you for teaching us!
Thank you for sticking right to the point and simplifying the instructions. I’m a single mom, and changed my very first light fixture after watching your video. Thank you!
Just what I was looking for on how to tie in both ground wires from box and light fixture. All other videos I’ve looked at never explained how to connect them. Great video. Thank you
Watching this video alleviates my concern about doing this myself, or having a friend do it. It's a lot simpler than I expected. Always gotta be careful where electricity is involved!
I have looked at a number of videos on the site and have found them all useful and instructive. I just completed a light installation after watching this video and it worked fine, thanks.
Thanks Shannon sometimes wiring can get a little confusing, some of your older homes have more than black and white wires running through there walls and ceilings. I always like watching your videos for a little refresher course always a big help.
I have not done this in years, but this video...helped a lot..most of these vids are seemingly for show and move too quickly...this one was very detailed.
I have this exact light I need to install but it's a 2 bulb version. 57 yr old woman selling my house and I want to try it. Circuit is off along with switch. My house built in '76 has aluminum wiring and I bought the anti-oxidant paste. My agent installed the other bedroom light but we didn't get to finish the 2nd one. I'd like to do it myself. This is a good video clearly showing every step. Why am I still nervous? My ex and I used to change all our lights together at our old house and I'm much brighter than he. Lol 😂 I can do this! Watched some vids on using the paste. Wish me luck!
Thanks so much for this video. I never installed an light fixtures. I bought a house and got a new fixture for my office. This video will be very helpful.
Thank you so much. I’m single and I’m doing all my home improvements myself. I’ve been burned by contractors, so I just go to TH-cam university and learn to do it myself
I love doing this kind of stuff, since I didn't have any real job experience with this just doing this at home. after 6 years I think I'm finally going to get a chance to do this kind of work for a facility.
Thank you, my neighbor just asked me if my husband could help, but he doesn’t know how to. So I wanted to learn for myself, and now I feel confident to help her! ❤️ Plus I’ve always wanted to learn anyways!
Thanx...you showed how the springy snap globe holder works...to replace burned out lamps (and dead flies and moths)...and you saved me from calling the apartment supervisor for such a simple task.
Thanks for a great video! I'm attempting to change out 2 ceiling lights. This video was very helpful! You were not in a rush and took time to explain things well. Thank you 😊
I like changing out the old fixtures with LED slim lights maybe 12" or 15". Amazon has one that I like made by BLNAN which has a remote for changing the light color and the intensity plus some other cool features. Good for 30,000 hours.
@@HouseImprovements An update. I did it. Some technical issues with mounting bracket but I did it. Not easy for 70 years old woman . Thank you very much for your very helpful video.
Very informative, thank you! You did a great job narrating your actions, giving instruction and whoever operated the camera did a superb job as well. Again, thank you.
Thanks. Paused it at 9:50 and with the confidence of an 8 year old boy hyped up on sugar, went off to start flipping switches on my breaker panel until I figured out which one I needed. Less than half an hour later, after scrounging for the needed tools (which included a butter knife as I was too lazy to continue looking,) I have a new fixture in my bathroom and it looks a thousand times better.
How's the new house coming along? any projects completed or in the pipes? Closing on our first house in less than a month and know I have about 5-6 light fixtures to change!
Tried of waiting on my electrician/ handy man to fit me into his schedule.. I have three light fixtures and dimmer switches sitting on my tabled. Nice video but something tells me I might mess up. I will just watch your videos and learn
There is no ground wire from the box in my fixture either. I grounded it to the ground location Shannon mentioned. I could not find a ground wire and didnt know how to bring one down like he did.
That was great. I just broke the glass globe in my bathroom fixture, and they don't make a replacement anymore -- so this was a wonderful video. Very easy to understand!

When there are 3 or more wires to connect I find it better to tape the wires together with the stripped bare ends sticking out. . This will make it possible to tighten the wire nut and be sure that none of the wires have slipped out of the wire nut. Great Video
Subscribing. Unsure what the unLikes are about, but this video is straight to the point, clear and is helping me get my confidence up to change out these light fixtures in my home. Thanks Shannon!
Great technical video Shannon - as always. I see you have your safety glasses on you cap, but not on your eyes! I always use safety glasses when working with overhead boxes. Debris always falls out of these boxes when you take the old fixture off or pull the wires down!
Boy I feel dumb. Just needed the last 2 minutes of this vid. Spent forever trying to find a video that just explains how the globe of this new light works! One is spring loaded!! First time changing a lightbulb in new house. Couldnt get to it.

Another tip the lil tips that hold the glass piece in can be replaced if it breaks which happen to mine. I just pulled out set screw and yanked on tab and unscrews the holder and i bought a new flush mount just to get the tab.
Wow, I just saw your video and this just helped me with what I thought we going to be a major project and turned it into a minor and rather easy one thank you

Perfect. Thank you for giving me the courage to change my old ceiling fixture (after it sat for weeks untouched).
Omg thank you I have the one that my house came with and I hate makes too much noise
I'm in the same boat right now

This is the most Canadian DIY video I have seen in a long time! Thanks for your tips and kindness through the video! ❤😊
I just changed 8 lights in my house last weekend, it's a real shoulder workout to hold those in place while connecting the wires!

This was good. The exact fixture we have, only the guy who installed ours did a shoddy job without that center bolt! Will go buy one and do it right.

Thank you for this video! I'm going to Home Depot straight after work to buy new fixtures and install them.
The video was very helpful, but what kind of wire do I use for the grounding wire, and where and how do I attach it? Thanks.
Excellent question, as awesome as Shannon's videos are, he didn't really detail that one for us!
There is no ground wire from the box in my fixture either. I grounded it to the ground location Shannon mentioned. I could not find a ground wire and didnt know how to bring one down like he did.
Thanks for explaining simple things, like the ground wire connection, that most people breeze through.
