The first time I met him in 2014 it was my first ever comicon so I didn't really know what to expect, but I saw him there and thought man I've been a Darth Vader fan my entire life I can't not say Hello. So I approached him and introduced myself and also asked him for some advice in terms of acting and getting yourself out there, baring in mind he's probably been asked a trillion times. He spoke to me so kindly and generously for about 15/20 minutes about acting/bodybuilding, how he got himself out there and what he thinks I should do. He was SO unbelievably genuine and kind and giving with his time you can tell he just loved spending time with fans. Second time I met him he was just as lovely, I'm so grateful that one of the most iconic movie characters in pop culture is such a gentle giant underneath the suit!
He shot himself in the foot when he revealed he was Luke’s father before Empire Strikes Back came out. It was in a local newspaper here in England. But this was before the Internet so it remained low key but Lucas was apparently furious.
I believe he was told that the Dagobah cave scene was actually real, in an attempt to see if David was the one leaking news about the movies. Sure enough, that news was reported soon after, confirming that David was the leak. Even if the news wasn't true and wasn't widely reported, it shows a heavy lack of professionalism. Imagine if one of the actors of Infinity War leaked the ending. Thanks to the internet, it would've gone viral almost instantly. The actor responsible could possibly have had their contract terminated and it would show Hollywood how unprofessional they were, making it harder for said actor to get into another big movie. I feel bad for David being cut out of Star Wars, but to be honest, the unprofessionalism he showed may have been a big part of that. Even Lucas said that David had burned bridges.
How did he know Vader was Luke's father? His line was something else. Obiwan killed Luke's father, or was Luke's father. Even Mark Hamill wasn't told the real line. Only Jones would have known the real line.
SH1NYMAN Hamill did know the ending. Only three people did. Prowse wasn’t one of them. There is a history between Lucas and Prowse. We do know Lucas is quite easy to work with, main complaints from actors are he stays pretty quiet and doesn’t give much instruction. We also know Prowse was annoyed because he was never told his voice would be cut from the films. I have no idea why we thought his voice would stay though.
RIP you legend of a person and an actor and a bodybuilder and a MBE and the green cross code man. You have entertained, saved lives and much more. Thank you 🖤🖤
Paulo Pereira It sounds like you said it cos he isnt a good looking man anymore haha. Unless you did mean it like that than that was very funny but hurtful haha
No, I just think his should have been the face that was revealed since he'd been the one wearing the suit all along (aside from any doubles). Also, having the kindly, benevolent face of Sebastian Shaw be the one under the mask was a bit much. Prowse's face would have been more believable.
They should have given him a small part in the new trilogy, even just as an extra, it would have been nice to see him up there again on the big screen with the original cast members
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT YE, AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL! THE GOSPEL (which means the Good News) is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. John 1:1,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 KJV He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT. John 20:28-29 KJV And Thomas answered and said unto him, MY LORD AND MY GOD. [29] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. Are you saved friend? If you died tonight will you go to heaven or hell? Acts 16:30-31 What must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Luke 24:47 KJV And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Acts 4:12 KJV Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. th-cam.com/video/14y_VIJ2ZbM/w-d-xo.html
Darth Vader has always been my favourite character of all time. I remember being a child and knowing who David Prowse and James Earl Jones was. And it’s so nice seeing him like this he’s so lovely. And you’ve gotta respect his brutal honesty in some of the stuff he says. I’d be a bit miffed if I thought they were gonna use my voice then decided against it so you can understand his gripe but JEJ has the best voice in human history and he makes darth Vader what he is. Vocally. And physically mr prowse has all his mannerisms down.
It was a good interview. I could see that it meant a LOT to Mr. Prowse that the man interviewing him said 'thank you' and that 'it was a pleasure to meet him'. R.I.P. David Prowse.
@@danielmcguire6687 Doesn't make what George did right. They just dubbed over his voice and while they never actually intended to use his voice they never told him. He just saw it and there it was, new voice. All of this, they never told him. He just acted and then they back stabbed him
@@yuri7885 So? his voice wasn't good. Plain and simple. Its a blockbuster. He just doesn't understand how movies work. Shit like that happens in movies all the time. Also, he knew he was going to get dubbed, George didn't just do it without telling him. He was aware. Prowse is just unconscious.
The walk, the way he stood holding his belt with his chest out, the aggressive finger pointing, towering over everybody.. he was perfect for Vader, james earl jones voice was the perfect choice too. A character like Vader needed to be perfect with no imperfections for it to be the masterpiece it is today.. if it took multiple actors then so be it.
Rest in peace, David Prowse. I hope he knows that everyone loves and misses him. I hope his close friends, family, and anyone impacted by his death are doing well.
He sounds like a very young person, not in pitch but in cadence and tone. If I heard his voice without knowing who it was I would hazard as guess that I'm hearing a man whose in his late 30's or early 40's. He's very sharp as well.
I've met Mr. Prowse and he befriended me. He's the most gentle man God created. I love him. He should have voiced over Darth Vader. He used to the Rank film monsters as well. Truly, a wonderful man!
Have you heard David Prowse's voice in the original filmed outtakes? His voice was just not right. Very light, not menacing at all. Plus, as you may notice in this video, David speaks with a very distinct West Country English Accent. Just not right for the character which requires a more neutral accent. Having said that, I do believe David Prowse was not treated with the proper respect over the course of the trilogy, which is in no small part due to the fact that George Lucas is a very introverted, secretive man with no people skills whatsoever. This may be why David began to mess up the lines because he was angry and felt betrayed by Lucas not being forthcoming about his vision for the films and the development of the characters which is, in my opinion, imortant for an actor to give their best to the project. As should be painfully obvious from interviews with actors, Lucas himself, and the Prequels, Lucas is NOT an actor's director. He is a visonary to be sure. But he is also a tech geek and a film geek who lives almost entirely in his own head and actors are almost an afterthought in his films. Seriously, could YOU really picture anyone else as the voice of Darth Vader? Not me. BUT! I believe David Prowse should have been the face of Anakin when he is unmasked. The actor who did play him, Sebastian Shaw, was a wonderful actor and he did a fine job. BUT! Even HE had no idea what he was doing or anything about the films when they called him in! They just gave him the lines and told him he's a dying man seeing his son for the first time without his mask - now hurry and get this costume on and get into make-up so we can shoot this thing! We can't keep this set closed forever! So what does THAT tell you? And YES, I know Lucas didn't direct Episodes 5 and 6! So just consider that.
I met Dave prowse once. He had a small business selling weight training equipment down Marshalsea Road just down the way from borough station. He was still doing weight training then. Must be over 25 years ago. He was still huge and had massive forearms. He was quite the salesman. He tried to get me and my friend to purchase Olympic style weight training equipment. We were only young but he gave us the full spiel. Can't believe Darth Vader tried to sell weight training gear to me. Lol.

I like that before and after Vader is completely defferent guys and Vader himself is mix of the two others. Like there's burned Hayden befor Sheev putting on him mask, 20 years after it when he putting it out it's Shawn, and in the middle it's Prowse with the voice of Jones. I don't mind other changes in Special Edition, but replacing force ghost on Hayden really damages to this thing.
What an awesome man. Sadly missed. Has or had a fitness town in Surrey where I was born & I was born on Neeson's 20th. My only SW claim to fame. RIP, sir.
His explanation for why his voice wasn't used as Vader is BOLLOCKS. His voice was never intended to be used, all the cast members referred to him as "Darth Farmer" (a nickname thought up by Carrie Fisher) and if James Earl Jones didn't end up voicing Darth Vader than someone else would have done the job instead. Point is, Lucas always intended to replace Dave's voice for the movie.
I was very lucky to sit down with David Prowse in 2004 and receive signed Vader pictures, plus take a photo with him. A really down to earth person , and fortunately didnt mention I was working as a security supervisor at the time for G.lucas...lol
nathan900130 yeah but the Bristol area accents are terrifying. I’m from near there and if you’re welsh you don’t want to be that close to the English. (No disrespect to the English mind some of them are great)
I've met Mr. Prowse a number of times. More than 20 times in fact. He has always been very kind to me and my children. He also has a great sense of humor and engages with his fans. For me he is Darth Vader. I don't care who else dawns the masks in future films. David Prowse is Darth Vader.
To be honest, I think they made the right move in using using James Earl Jones for Vader's voice. David has a lovely voice. But it's too light. There's no gravitas to it. Then there's his beautiful West Country accent. It doesn't really say villain (I will add I am from that neck of the woods). But...I honestly think it should have been him when Luke removed Vader's mask.
It’s always enlightening to hear from the man himself. The story gets embellished so much, it’s commonly reported that Dave didn’t know he was replaced until the premiere. He has a great voice and his accent isn’t too strong for the predominantly American cast... but it’s impossible to imagine Vader without James Earl Jones

Only Jones would have known the real line.
charlie moth Well, I mean, Mark Ruffalo did kind of leak the ending of Infinity War.
Bullcrap... see I’m your father documentary
RIP you legend of a person and an actor and a bodybuilder and a MBE and the green cross code man. You have entertained, saved lives and much more. Thank you 🖤🖤
I just got a text from my dad saying that David Prowse died! RIP to this legendary man.
Should've been the unmasked Vader.
Paulo Pereira that's rude
Paulo Pereira 😂😂😂😂
Hazzball Gaming ???
Paulo Pereira It sounds like you said it cos he isnt a good looking man anymore haha. Unless you did mean it like that than that was very funny but hurtful haha
No, I just think his should have been the face that was revealed since he'd been the one wearing the suit all along (aside from any doubles). Also, having the kindly, benevolent face of Sebastian Shaw be the one under the mask was a bit much. Prowse's face would have been more believable.
Anybody here after his passing? Rip Sir. Darth Vader would not be here without you.
Wasn’t he also the muscle bound caretaker of the crippled man in A clockwork Orange?
yes
Also was the monster in Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell, with Peter Cushing. That was Vader and Moff Tarkin before Star Wars was even wrtitten.
They should have given him a small part in the new trilogy, even just as an extra, it would have been nice to see him up there again on the big screen with the original cast members
Why? Hes in bad physical shape. Stop imposing your wants.
so was Peter Mayhew ...and still he had a "part"
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT YE, AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL!
THE GOSPEL (which means the Good News) is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him.
John 1:1,14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us,
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
John 1:10 KJV
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.
John 20:28-29 KJV
And Thomas answered and said unto him, MY LORD AND MY GOD. [29] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Are you saved friend? If you died tonight will you go to heaven or hell?
Acts 16:30-31
What must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Luke 24:47 KJV
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 4:12 KJV
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Thanks for giving us a great character.
Rest in Peace David.😔
My grandad used to weightlift with Dave. R.I.P David prowse x
The way Lucas treated this poor man is just shameful.
He is a big fat jerk that’s what he does he probably has more asshole of the year awards than anybody.
You do know that David Prowse spoiled the original Trilogy right?
@@danielmcguire6687 Doesn't make what George did right. They just dubbed over his voice and while they never actually intended to use his voice they never told him. He just saw it and there it was, new voice. All of this, they never told him. He just acted and then they back stabbed him
@@yuri7885 So? his voice wasn't good. Plain and simple. Its a blockbuster. He just doesn't understand how movies work. Shit like that happens in movies all the time. Also, he knew he was going to get dubbed, George didn't just do it without telling him. He was aware. Prowse is just unconscious.
@@sharkluxry Still doesn't really make how he was treated right
The walk, the way he stood holding his belt with his chest out, the aggressive finger pointing, towering over everybody.. he was perfect for Vader, james earl jones voice was the perfect choice too. A character like Vader needed to be perfect with no imperfections for it to be the masterpiece it is today.. if it took multiple actors then so be it.
1000% I admired them each for their roles...and their combo made them more powerful. The movie score gave them their platform.
Rest in Peace David Prowse 1935-2020 💔😢
David was a nice guy.very sad he pass a way.so happy to meet him.xxxxxx
Work on ur grammar
I can’t believe this man is gone He is gone but not forgotten
Absolute gentleman and legend!
The reality is his voice would never have had such an impact as James Earl Jones voice did. Prowse voice is to light it lack the deep cadence.
My Condolences to his family and Loved ones!!!
Such a decent man! Gentle giant! RIP Dave Prowse.
He was in Clockwork Orange as the author's bodyguard post-attack from Alex and his Droogs...
James Earl Jones is the voice of Darth Vader. This man IS Darth Vader
Met this guy so genuine and got his book what a nice guy
RIP may the force be with you
What a great guy he's awesome as Vader playing him physical his body language he will be truly missed by a lot of people.
Great man great performer
Guy was a beast in his younger years.
He's simply just a Legend
Rip David Prowse. Not enough people realize his importance.
Great man.Mr.Prowse excellent in everything he did.RIP.
What else did he do, besides "Star Wars" and "Clockwork Orange"?
David Prowse is a great man and he is right about the force awakens, it was such a disappointment.
yeah, making 2 billion dollars is such a disappointment 🙄
Magneto Rex Money doesn't equal quality.
except we aren't talking millions, it's billions
Magneto Rex, By this logic you must be thinking that michael bay's transformers movies are masterpieces. Especially revenge of the fallen.
Timepiece80 yeah
R.I.P. David and James
His voice wasn't right, end of story.
Valiant Thor ya
Valiant Thor easy to say that now after you are used to James Earl Jones
MattsVlog For a villian like Darth, JEJ's voice was the right one. Low and mysterious in a way. Creepy
EXACTLY
for a character so dark, he's such a very nice guy. :(
Just try to thonk about this: Everytime you remember Vader, David Prose was the one there.
The funny thing is that David Prowse looks more like Anakin than the actual face that they showed at the ending
Why was David prowse not under the mask in return of the Jedi?
Story goes that he was all set to do that, then he revealed the ending to Return of the Jedi, Vaders face reveal and they fired him and replaced him!
Someone leaked the ending of Jedi and David was blamed. Now it's known he didn't leak it but bridges burned.
Paul Choccy T the least George could do is apologize
King Josiah David did film the unmasking scene...but was not told Mr. Shaw filmed it as well.
He reveled the ending of esb before it came out so George just had him play the role for Rotj and then he fired him
That was a lovely interview. He's a good man.
He sure Aged a LOT, in ~40 Years! Damn!
RIP, sir.
Rest in Peace.
I sure miss him. I met and spoke with him in 1999. Very sweet and down to earth
Rest In Peace David :/
His explanation for why his voice wasn't used as Vader is BOLLOCKS. His voice was never intended to be used, all the cast members referred to him as "Darth Farmer" (a nickname thought up by Carrie Fisher) and if James Earl Jones didn't end up voicing Darth Vader than someone else would have done the job instead. Point is, Lucas always intended to replace Dave's voice for the movie.
Thanks for everything! :D RIP Mr. Prowse
Seems to have changed his original reason for why they picked Jones.
Alex Gregg lol
Elucidate ye!
Alex Gregg
lol
alex smith James Earl Jones when said a darker voice not by ethnic, by attitude and tone of voice.
I was very lucky to sit down with David Prowse in 2004 and receive signed Vader pictures, plus take a photo with him.
A really down to earth person , and fortunately didnt mention I was working as a security supervisor at the time for G.lucas...lol
They should've used his voice. There's nothing more evil or menacing than a Bristol accent 😂
Have you ever heard Prowse's voice in the behind the scene in a New Hope?
nathan900130 yeah but the Bristol area accents are terrifying. I’m from near there and if you’re welsh you don’t want to be that close to the English. (No disrespect to the English mind some of them are great)
In that case they should have used Michael Caine voice it has more power
I'm bristolian. And as it happens my dad knew David as teenager's. They all grew up in the good old area I was raised in....southmead😊
Adrian Jones
Well back in the 70s his voice was really different from now
I've met Mr. Prowse a number of times. More than 20 times in fact. He has always been very kind to me and my children. He also has a great sense of humor and engages with his fans. For me he is Darth Vader. I don't care who else dawns the masks in future films. David Prowse is Darth Vader.
Story is: Lucas thought his voice wasn’t as intimidating as he wanted so he wanted someone with a deep voice
His voice for Vader was absolutely terrible compared to James earl Jones, that's why they changed it
He never got the voice over chance, hard to act and do voice st the same time on set.
@@johnnymarlin819 no its cause his voice isn't menacing enough
Yea I wouldn't be afraid of an English Vader
Now everybody say they prefer the black guy instead of the white one, yeah... right.... ! Well at least they agree on something with their wives
I like David, but his voice wouldnt have the same impact on the character as James. The voice of Vader is the most intimidating factor by far
The loveliest man god ever put breath in may he rest in peace!!!
what I'm saying thank you to is not only for him playing Darth Vader-Fantastic performance as him-I'm also saying it to that he's not defending that "nice" movie. Like him at the end I was like oh that was a nice movie, that comment was leaning towards the action. As far as the story I was disappointed as he said. The make up-like "reskinning" the Empire and the Rebels, there name that is, I'll give it credit for the creative name of the First Order rather than saying New Empire but not the Rebels, (Resistance? Honestly I felt more power just saying Rebel Alliance). A few of the characters contradicting themselves, mainly Finn, or making stupid decisions (Kylo Ren chiefly) reusing story plot of original and the stupid way of killing Han Solo-if he was killed another way I would've been fine. I just don't see why many try to defend that movie. The only part I liked about it slightly is the mystery of Rey's origin. Do not like how she can pretty much use Jedi mind tricks and can beat someone who easily should've out classed her without receiving any training so I don't like her much as a character but slightly. Anyway Mr. Prowse is great God bless his long life!
Always a gentleman. I had the privilege of being David’s liaison for theee days when he did a Chicago convention back in 1995 and he was one of the nicest celebs I’ve ever met.
lol, he didn't think there was enough action in EP 7 . I love david prowse but that movie was packed with action
Jacob Bastian I think he got it mixed with the Phantom Menace... old people you know
Jacob Bastian yh but it was shit.
Rest in Piece to a true legend. The force is with him. Always
This was the interview that had him cut off from conventions.
Kayle M why
