  • The behind the scenes making of Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron
    It showcases some amazing stunts from George Miller's movie.
    Synopsis: Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film of George Miller's Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order... There's Max, a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And Furiosa, a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

    Working on vehicles myself, acknowledging the amount of time, resources and cost to not only make these vehicles but to have multiple versions along side turbo and supercharging them. To do that required extensive tuning across all vehicles that had forced induction.
    They covered so much of this and really want to give praise to everyone for their hard work.

      Yep. I had no idea they were real. Onya fellas!!!

    • @Beany2007FTW
      @Beany2007FTW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As I recall from other things I've read about the vehicles, the twincharged (turbo and super) vehicles like the gigahorse were absolutely supercharged, but not actually turbocharged - the turbos were blowthrough dummy housings, because twincharging is actually really hard.
      But the gigahorse engine was a functional supercharged v16 (two v8s joined at the crank) because it was useful to have that sort of power to get up to filming speed. But the Turbo charging was a step more than they really needed, and could very easily be mocked up with no real downsides.
      That so many of the hero cars were either turbocharged or supercharged for real shows in the sound design and editing, however - there's nary a whine or blow off missed.
      The editing and especially sound design in this film is, to be blunt, some of the best ever put to the screen. Find me *any* bad gear change, any wrong engine speed, any example of, say, a lorry based platform sounding like a car.
      That level of detail is flat out jaw dropping and is a perfect example of just how seriously Miller took what would likely be his last chance to make the most technically comprehensive big budget film he's likely to make.
      This is the definitive (at least technically) chase movie, and it'll take something pretty fecking spectacular to top it.

CG is great but it's best used to enhance effects shots or to create something that would be otherwise impossible (like the sand storm). CG is overused and audiences can sense the fakery. It takes you out of the out of the movie every time. That's why T2 and Jurassic Park hold up so well all these years later while scenes in T3 look absolutely ridiculous.

      Most of the cars you see being used are old beaters of random brands. If you go watch some of the recent block buster movies like the Transformer movies, look at all the random traffic cars and a lot of the hero cars, they'll mostly be of one brand because automakers give them a payout and basically sponsor the movie with their cars in exchange for featuring their brand cars in the movie. Go watch the second Matrix movie, damn near every car in that movie is a Cadillac or other GM car. Crap like that is really obvious to me because I'm a car guy so I pay a lot of attention to stuff like that and it kills the movie for me.

However, I don't really think you could throw in product placement into a film like this, after all, if in this universe, apocalyptic events started in the 80's, product development for the most part would cease for obvious reason. So you couldn't really throw a 2017 Ford gt into the film, as cool as that would be or have them drinking Monster energy drinks because those things simply never existed in this universe. I suppose they could like throw in them discovering a run down Walmart and be like "Wow I remember the great deals I used to get shopping here!" or something cringe inducing like that if Walmart paid them but that's about it.

He's deeply attached to the Australian Ford Falcon -- ever since the tail end of the first film, that car was his identity in a sense, and he felt "lost" without it -- and even in the Wasteland there are bound to be a few more of them lying about someplace. The car he had in Fury Road wasn't even the same one from the first two films; he cobbled it together from scavenged parts. That's another reason why the Warboys caught him so easily in Fury Road -- this wasn't the Super Pursuit Special, it was a mere shadow of that car.

    The love and craft in each of the vehicles is truly amazing. They are each their own character and the sounds are all genuine gut churning horsepower. Two V8s mated to a driveshaft. .....lol...turbos...and they each have their own name....what a riot. The making of is just as entertaining as the film. Miller makes another great movie and smartly avoids the trappings of the modern CGI age. Well done.
