You know for the 3,000 years of the existence of the Covenant it would be pretty interesting to have some stories of those day like the Covenant could have encountered a small machine faction that had a couple solar systems led by a Artificial defense system network that destroyed it's creators like Skynet did in Terminator and that would be a bigger reason why the Covenant restricted AI and the legend of Mendicant Bias would have set this incident as a example of what would happen if AI was created to those who had doubts of AI uprisings within the Covenant population.
It's also possible they got fragments of Mendicant Bia's betrayal and fall to the Flood and opted to minimize their use of AI citing this "cautionary tale" as the reason. Though a independent AI led machine race would be interesting to see, maybe even a anti-skynet where the original organic species uploaded themselves to AI simulations as a desperate last act against some calamities they otherwise wouldn't have survived
@Quiet Wanderer The Covenant definitely did at least partially understand Mendicant Bias' betrayal, as the grunt Deacon in Contact Harvest is shown to have knowledge of an AI betrayal. As he is just a deacon (still a rather low rank), it seems to be fairly common knowledge in the Covenant.

Reminds me of the Dark, Middle & Renaissance age with our religious reformations from the Catholic Church due to the corruption. It mirrors alot of it in the Halo universe. I wonder in our universe, it's universal across countless civilizations in our galaxy that astrobiologist & other scientist are'nt asking the hard questions of spirituality, faith & religion in a cultural contents of a civilization. Many assume when a civilization gets technologically advance, we abandon it, I personally believe they don't. Life with purpose must be the very common universal thing.
Hey 00 can you cover the science of space engagements in halo. Is it true that the range is virtually unlimited or is it always a knife fight. Also what about boarding actions? Hopefully it’s not out of your range but this topic has confused me sense reading the fall of reach & watching the movie
Space battles are an interesting subject actually. Especially when you consider the weapons primarily being used on ships in the Halo-verse. In short, yes, it generally has to be a CQC "relatively speaking" battle between ships simply based on the weapons. But this is a very interesting topic. So, I shall cover it. Expect it soon.
Though I believe that in real life with current technological advances it would be drastically different then Halo, and mostly coming down to who can detect/see who first and also hide the best. These conflicts would almost always occur at very long range range, using intelligent missiles as a primary weapon. Armor would be pretty non existent too.

In other words from my perspective, The Great Journey was meant to be *A War To End All Wars* and to prevent any other wars from emerging into the galaxy.
But they didn't follow for faith. They were subdued. And it could even be argued that the Kigyar were never fully converted either, given their nature of piracy

But the whole reason the covenant waged war with humanity is because the prophet's needed to keep the humans identity as reclaimers a secret from the larger covenant hierarchy adopting a human goes against what the entire covenant stands for
Wouldn't it be hillarious if the Covenant actually succeeded in beginning the great journey? Imagine amassing all of that power and success just to willingly and ignorantly yeet it all away with the press of a button.
Yet another amazing video! Honestly would love to see a video on the few San Shyuum that remain. Like the one studying the decendants of the sangheili who refused the writ of union
I always thought the Prophet of Truth knew the great journey was BS because in H3 during the mission “Covenant” when Sgt. Johnson is captured and Truth attempted to use him to light the rings, Johnson says: “what, can’t start your own party?” And Truth replies: “I admit I need your help, but that secret dies with all the rest”... which I always took as clear evidence that not only did Truth falsely justify the war against humanity, which he did...but also by that point (maybe by interrogating 343 Guilty Spark), knew the great Journey was false and by keeping the myth a lie until the moment the Halos activated it would erase all of his lies. It’s as if he was so deep into his own lies at that point it was best to just kill everyone and end it all.
He still believed that using the rings was a way to transcend. But from the books he and his 2 other buddies Regret and Mercy ran into Mendicant Bias on the keyship and came to a misunderstanding. They had tools to detect Forerunner artifacts. When they ran into humans they noticed that the tool recognized humans as Forerunner. When the 3 prophets awakened Mendicant Bias his first task was to take the keyship to lead the reclaimers to the ark and aid them in seizing all Forerunner tech. This was stopped. The 3 prophets believed Humans to be Forerunner and decided that this fact could never be known because it would destroy the Covenant. They also took an opportunity to seize power and ordered the extermination of the Humans so no one would realize what sort of connection humans had with the forerunners while slowly gaining more authority. There is another line from H3 from truth to Johnson that shows this more clearly. He says to Johnson,"Your forefathers wisely set aside their compassion.....steeled themselves for what needed to be done. I see now why they left you behind. You were weak... and gods must be strong."
@@lolturtle13 Those were the good ol' days, when humans were direct descendants of the Forerunners. Instead we end up with a mantle obsessed hothead that looks like the love child of Jason Vorhees & Predator.
Sonething that ive always wondered (tho I’m not sure if this can be covered by the channel): what would’ve happened if the stoics beat the reformists, and then (presumably centuries later) met the sangheili? How would first contact differ, and what kind of covenant would be created from that union?
Who’s to say that say when the rings were fired the remaining forerunners in the defence fleets holding the line were uploaded into the domain perhaps something put into their combat skin to compose them.
I was hoping more for the actual Origin of the religion, like why did the San’shyume believe in "the Great Journey"? Where in the world did they get the idea the Forerunner used the halo rings to transcend the physical world? They clearly found out about the Forerunners and the Halo rings from a Monitor or some other AI left by the Forerunners, so it must have told them the Forerunners were dead, not transcend.. and the Halos were weapons, not some portal to another dimension... Did some San’shyume find some Monitor and then invent a religion around it to gain power over the other San’shyume?
I still don’t know where they got the idea of the “Great Journey” religion from. It’s only ever mentioned in a terminal with a transcription of a convo between the Didact and the Librarian on The Ark in Halo 3. The Didact is mocking how the Librarian practically worships the idea of Humanity becoming a space-faring race again, reclaiming the lost knowledge and technology of the Forerunners and ruling the universe after she would (and did) save them from the imminent event of the Halo rings firing off, before chasing her down and trying to kill her and the Humans on Earth. The thing about this is the Covenant never found The Ark before the events of Halo 3 and even if Mendicant Bias, whom the prophets Regret, Mercy and Truth found years prior, had the convo recorded (which he likely did) that was still long after the Covenant started their star crusade in the first place. So where the hell did they come up with a “Great Journey” especially out of the context of a mass emergency suicide and humanity becoming the sole superpower in the universe?
From reading contact harvest recently, it seems like the Covenant didn't know. Because to them the Forrunners are the makers of the universe, they ascended to Godhood. Also to me If they knew of the Precursors I don't think the Covenant would've lasted as strong as it was as long as it did.
Basically, the Covenant thought the Forerunners achived what the Ancients actually achieve. Seems like those pesky Humans are always doing the impossible, don't ya think?
