The fifth iteration of the famed SBD Dauntless, the SBD-5 was the Navy’s primary dive bomber during the Second World War. By the time the SBD-5 was developed in 1943, the Dauntless had already distinguished itself in the Pacific Theater. These dive bombers sank four Japanese carriers at Midway in June 1942 while being relentlessly harassed by Japanese Zeroes.

A relative of mine actually flew the Dauntless. He was featured in a Time magazine article on Navy Dive Bombing and the article called him the “Best in the Fleet”. He sadly was killed in action at Okinawa, but I’ve always had a strange connection with the Dauntless, and now to see one available in Lego is simply heartwarming. Thank you Brickmania, for the set of a fallen hero.

Some facts about the SBD Dauntless. In the air, when attacked, the SBD had a kill ratio of 3:1. SBD stands for Scout Bomber Douglas. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, two SBDs sunk a Japanese sub. They were involved in the sinking of the Yamato. One Japanese ace attacked a SBD thinking it was a wildcat, and he payed for the mistake by getting hit in the face by a built.
You forgot to mention the sinking of 4 Japanese carriers at Midway

Also SBD stands for slow but deadly because the bombers were slow but did a lot of damage to there targets
hecc in the battle of coral sea A sbd shot down 3 a6m2 zeroes and they used sbd as a fighter to protect lady lex
Awesome aircraft. These are what destroyed the Japanese carrier fleet at Midway. 👍
And through out the rest of the war until the were replaced.

They totally should, but it would be more expensive b/c it is a bigger airplane. Did you know that TBD's were involved in the first carrier based night operations of the American Navy in WW2?

There was no folding wings to make the plane more rugged, and to save weight. Not an expert, but I suspect to get the wings to fold, and also hold up in dive bombing it would take too much away from the payload.
I agree, plus A wing that could fold for storage would also probably fail and buckle in a 300+ mph dive!
The SBC2 Helldiver, replacement of the Dauntless, had folding wings, but you're right on the lack of folding wings on the Dauntless due to structural integrity.
Its a sbd 5. The sbd 5 does not have folded wings.

Woodfield Mall in Chicago still have some T 72s left. As for the Blitzkrieg book, it might come out on black Friday but don't take my word for it.

I can't make any promises about a new kit, but we are restocking the Mark V Signature weapons pack that you can use with our Great War instruction book and your own parts to build that one. That's one option.
