James Garner is the real deal when it comes to Johnny Cash tribute singing. And he tells stories about Johnny Cash in-between the songs. My friend, Marty Stuart, was astounded at James Garner's knowledge about Johnny Cash.
I've seen James Garner's "Cash Tribute" at least six times and I never get tired of hearing that big baritone voice. His band of Denny Colleret on lead guitar, Ric Duncan on bass, and Nick Auriemmo on drums are simply the most polished professionals you'll find anywhere. The four of them recreate the Cash sound with such feeling that if you close your eyes you'll swear you were listening to Cash himself. To keep things interesting Garner changes things up just a bit from concert to concert so the show is always fresh and vibrant. If Johnny Cash was alive he'd be a fan of James Garner.
Well put, we've seen them a couple times as well. I like the stories about Johnny and the songs during the show as well. They are true fans, and the reverence for the material is very apparent.
Very good! So respectfully done. Thank you for this. Now...on the silly side...If I were 40 years younger I'd fall in love with this man. I would like to see a June in this act but it's great even without.
I recorded this at his concert on September 18, 2015. I tried to upload just one song I recorded and I got this after uploading. Really enjoyed the concert because he does sound and Johnny Cash.
I listened to johnny since i was a little boy in Grants Pass oregon in the 70s. so johnny does live on :-) I would like to see james live somewhere. you know my cd just broke two weeks ago on johnny :-(
I watched the Johnny Cash Tribute show on Public Television and it was excellent; hope he continues his work. Walk the Line album was special to a former employer in 1971; and after he recorded the one song, my boss gave me he album. He ended up marrying his Oak Ridge, TN love that he recorded the "Walk the Line" song for and became a soccer coach for his daughters and their friends, wanting for a son still.
I've seen this before and believe me when I say the live version is a lot better than this recorded version. When I was there, I was the youngest one. (twenty-four, very recently) with my dad and I was looking around seeing all these fifty (and above) some year olds thinking am I the youngest one here that enjoys Johnny Cash? At the end, he started singing "A Boy Name Sue" Me:*Shouts*:Yes!
Not bad, but no-one, that's no-one, could do Johnny Cash as good as Johnny Cash - and thanks to TH-cam we'll always be able to check out Cash as long as the internet exists!
The video mash-up is terrific, but it doesn't include the stories that Garner tells between songs that add flavor to his performance. I suggest that the producers of this video put out something that parallels what Garner gives the audience in a concert.

This is about as close to Cash as any I've ever seen.. not cash himself but pretty darn good..
sounds a little more like johns brother tommy
I've seen many claim that they're the best Johnny Cash impressionists and end up sounding NOTHING like Johnny, this is not one of those
Where is Rockford?
Johnny Counterfeit was the best!
Shoulda been in da movie
He's new to me but he's good isn't he.
No
Are you cool or what! You are so accurate to Cash! The thing you to do is the raising of the eyebrows.
Fishy
Not quite Johnny, but mighty fine all the same! Not hard to look at either!

Almost but lacks charisma and the feeling when singing but got the looks and music down
Plenty of charisma. If James put more "charisma" into it he would just be accused of overdoing it. No, James is as real as he needs to be.
