Why am I just getting hip to these guys! Jesus!! This is art! Not only can they sing, they can swing too! Oh and their instrumentalists as well... my goodness
The new freshmen are fantastic and I can't tell the difference from the originals. How wonderful to have them at this time of life. I've been a fan since 1952.
Terrific! The guy pickin' on the bass is really good! I have been enjoying The Four Freshmen for years now, I never got to see them in person because I was also a working musician, but I'm really enjoying all these recordings. The harmony here is, I think, one of the better Four, but they are ALL so talented, I don't know how the new voices can keep the same style as those before them many years before, but they do! Acute hearing and perfect pitch, I'd guess! They're really on their jazz kick on this song!
Crazy isn't it? If I don't have fret markers on my guitar/banjo? I'm lost. This guy looks as if he is reading the menu on the wall while he plays without a flaw.
There really is noone like them, sublime musicality and great feel for a lyric. No wonder, whenever I am down or sad, I think of Day By \day or There Will Never Be Another You and the sky in my mind lightens.
OMG! OMG! OMG! I heard the originals 1956 at the Univ Of Mississippi. These guys are great. Monstor bass player and how he plays all that and keeps dead pan face I will never know! 5 Stars.
A fabulous jazz quartet and I love their precision. We saw a previous iteration live 3 or 4 decades ago.... they sound the same here! Incredible talent.
Another You...What complex delight, how they play with a song, I do love the memorized original tunes but I am in awe of the modern versions as done by the current FF young pups , I am 70 and have been a solid unwavering fan since I was 10, saw them in Kelowna, British Columbia maybe 5 years back as they taught high School jazz musicians at the Interior Jazz Fest, what a huge experience for me, clutching my last remaining album cover FF and Five Trombones
Got to see them at the Lionel Hampton jazz festival in Idaho some year's ago. Could have listened to them all night. Was disappointed when their concert was over.
These 4 are my favorite, everything about them is so inspiring, hope the world is blessed by the magic forever more, and what an honor would it be to be apart of them, here's to my possibility and dream of becoming a freshmen :)
Fantastic. i had not seen/heard this particular version with the outstanding bass and trumpet solos - not to mention the singing! Just delightful. Thanks.
The performance, the visuals, the sound are all just incredible. The vocal balance is just supreme I can hear clearly all the parts. They used to say that a great balance is when it sounds like one voice, well it sounds as one but with the added beauty of clearly hearing ALL voices, just stunning guys. The filming is so great, how good does it look? I have a feeling there may be a DVD in the mix somewhere down the line--if there is, PLEASE put your fantastic version of Surfer Girl.
A taste in jazz incorporates all the players - singers, instrumentalists, arrangers etc. The 'Freshmen' were pretty good jazz enthusiasts and gave out that message. I suggest you broaden you horizons and learn, Ricardo.
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF THE FOUR FRESHMAN AND SAW THE ORIGINALS IN MEMPHIS MANY YEARS AGO. I WISH THE NEW GROUP WOULD COME OUT WITH A VERSION OF THIS BEAUTIFUL LOVE SONG AND SING IT THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SUNG. SORRY ABOUT THAT!!!! ---BUT THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL!!!
local time is 12:35 am,April 16, 2022 in Kiryat Tiv"on ,Israel. It's the first night of pesach or passover in the jewish calendar. I was about to sleep when i saw this. Amazing!Where are they now?
THIS ITERATION , WHICH # I HAVE NO IDEA-------WAS THE VERY FINEST 4 FRESHMEN OF ALL-TIME. EVEN BOB FLANIGAN SAID SO, & HE WOULD KNOW. L TO R : CURT CALDERON --------VINCE JONNSON--------BOB FERRIERA, THE LONGEST LASTING " FRESHMAN ' OF ALL-TIME, & BRIAN EICHENBERGER. THESE 4 WERE PURE VOCAL MAGIC , & THEY ARE GREATLY MISSED. -----------------------MJL, 77 Y/O
THOSE WHO ARE LEFT WOULD. NOT SURE IF BOB FLANAGAN IS STILL LIVING THE GROUP I SANG WITH (LETTERMEN) WERE ON THE SAME CARD SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE FRESHMEN IN LATE 70'S EARLY 80'S
It's hard to believe any grouping could match the original four (who first entranced this listener 60 years ago), but dammit these guys re-create the sound, and they're excellent jazz instrumentalists as well. Wonderful to know that the Freshmen live!
The "horn" solo appearing in this video is a flugelhorn, definitely not a French horn, which is held tucked toward the right arm with the right hand supporting the hand by placing it in the bell. The flugelhorn is played much the same way as a trumpet or cornet, except that it has a much more mellow tone to it, making it sometimes mistaken unseen as a French horn.
Why am I just getting hip to these guys! Jesus!! This is art! Not only can they sing, they can swing too! Oh and their instrumentalists as well... my goodness
that's what i'm sayin

Top notch singers, harmonizers, instrumentalists, simply real entertainers. Outstanding!

I love how he scats along with his bass!

These men really could lay a foundation for other people to put together more groups that like to sing and play music like this. This a lot of fun!
The Beach Boys had fun and made millions of dollars
This group was perfection

They could all play instruments as individuals but retain their close harmony.they are fabulous
You are right, examples of gifted musicians.

It's a flugelhorn
Excellent! Four Freshmen born again, but new and improved!
4 master musicians. They keep amazing you as you listen.
Awesome Curt And Vince!
Loved group 22 especially Curtis Calderon on trumpet and flugelhorn.
I'm back at the Crescendo on the Sunset Strip when Group 3 sang this. Thanks.
I went to the concert of the original Four Freshment in London in 1958. This is a very good "Freshmen" performance. Excellent musicianship.
Got to see them at the Lionel Hampton jazz festival in Idaho some year's ago. Could have listened to them all night. Was disappointed when their concert was over.
Truly the sound of heaven!
Ahhhhh....A blast from the past and as good as ever!!
Vince Johnson on bass is an amazing talent. Honored to know him back in the day in San Luis Obispo.
This is just absolute magic. Thankyou guys!!
These 4 are my favorite, everything about them is so inspiring, hope the world is blessed by the magic forever more, and what an honor would it be to be apart of them, here's to my possibility and dream of becoming a freshmen :)

There will never be another group like this!!!!! Motto Gracie!!!!!!!!!
F A N T A S T I C . . . ❤️☝🏽😊 !
i love these guys even more after hearing that we've lost Ross Barbour last August. Now everything they'll sing will be monumental.
I sing this for my kids when they graduate. I thought we sung it at graduation in 1969. I was amazed to hear that the Beach Boys did the song.
breathtaking :)
Group 22 is the best group so far!
GMeyer
Masters!!!
SHIT.... Drop dead fantastic as always.
A taste in jazz incorporates all the players - singers, instrumentalists, arrangers etc. The 'Freshmen' were pretty good jazz enthusiasts and gave out that message. I suggest you broaden you horizons and learn, Ricardo.

i can see how they taught the beach boys !! fantastic musicians/vocalists that they are brilliant
It means their fine musicians.
WOW!!!!
Superb flugelhorn work, reminiscent of Clark Terry's fluidity of phrasing.
Their influence on the Beachboys-who admired them-is evident.

Wolfie, your Dad & Mom were followers of the original 4 ?

Très bon
What make and model electric upright bass is this guy playing? It sounds great and it sure beats carrying around an acoustic instruments.
MAY CURTIS AND HIS HORN LIVE FOREVER!
He's back in his home town of San Antonio Texas
Anybody knows if there is also a live performance of them singing My One and Only Love?
what can I say no PICNIC. PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS JAZZ IMPROVISATIONS AND SANG TOO... AMAZING.. INCREDRIBLE 4 PARTS HARMONIES.M
What the hell key is this in? is the audio tuned up? The bass player is obviously playing in A Major. But it sounds like Bb. I wonder if he retuned...
+Neal Perrine It is in Bb. I think they just played it in a key that worked for their voices :)
"The boys'-a-been practicin', Ma"
Los Beach Boys aprendieron con ellos!! The Four Freshmen "there sill never be another you"
NO CONOZCO A ESTE GRUPO. QUIENES SON? TAMPOCO SON NADA DEL OTRO MUNDO!
3:06 the best part
Bro, Salute to Major Holly!
Yeah, and Slam Stewart too, smart ass!
