LETS GOO EMPIRE TIMELINE! Also, about the current pop system, I heard it's causing alot of lag because the game is treating them each like a seperate entity needing their own calculations each day, which is causing alot of lag. I'm wondering, why do you need to calculate the pops every day? Why not every week or month?
The problem is the sheer number of individual pops that need to do calculations sequentially. Reducing it to "pop groups" should be a dramatic change for performance. Victoria 3 has a similar problem - because of the way pops are created for every workplace (atleast 3-4 pops per building) it means that the longer the game goes on the worse the performance. Adding just one extra culture to a state also doubles the number of pops.
Like others said, it's every month...but, you have to realize: there's thousands upon thousands of pops in the galaxy by mid to late game, not just composed of empires (including fallen ones) but also by pre-sapients and primitives / pre-FTLs. And as for why calculations need to exist, well...the pops have to have their happiness, ethics, and faction affiliations taken into account which directly affects production on the planets (and unity gain for factions), and they also need to be able to immigrate or shift around to other jobs in different buildings. It's not really a simple fix at all, which is why they're going to use the workforce solution instead
I love this game and am super hyped for the update :) What I really wish for though, is a rework of internal politics to make your government form and ethics more impactful - maybe that’s already worked into the focuses - but maybe also through adding specific events or more impactful decisions in events, (customisable) ship/ army/ pop/ leader designs, truly special buildings, more (positive or negative) consequences for decisions that don’t fulfil your political direction (for example having a weak fleet as militarist, giving power to the people as imperial, or taking power as democracy) with the options to renew these forms if necessary (like in the emperor origin) etc.
Love what's cooking right now, especially the optimization. I would ask that energy not be replaced as market currency as having either trade or generator worlds to produce energy creates some options for diversity that I quite like.
