I'm Scottish, lived in the outback for a year, I was thought so much from proper hard men and played a big part to making me the man I am today. One day I will return to the red sands and muster cattle. My fondest memories in life. God bless that great nation of Australia, your ancestors drew the "short straw" when getting deported from Britain...but by God did they end up prospering for there children in that golden sunshine.
Hahaha im an aussie and so many of my friends from the coast dont understand why anyone would want to go to the outback. They dont realise people like yourself from all over the world come to experience the magic.

@@diablo666541 yeah it's funny the different kind of "one off" people who come to Australia and then go way out into distant places. I'll tell you an Irony going the other direction. There is a friend of my brother from NZ, a Maori guy, he does consider himself black. He went to live with an Aboriginal mission in NSW. Another Maori guy has gone the other way, he works in Hollywood and he played many Latino and South American characters.
In the Johnny Depp movie "Blow", even Pablo Escobar himself is played by this Maori actor.
No Aussie could ever tire from this song. Seriously considering listening to it for 24 hours for a TH-cam video

I got absolutely blind drunk when I was 18 years old, living in Tamworth. It was country music festival week and my housemate gave me a case of Bundaberg rum.
I came to and this song was playing, I was in the middle of the Tamworth entertainment centre and I had NO IDEA where I was, I had been completely blackout before that point. Good song, good memory, was cool seeing you even though I still don’t really know who you are.
Crazy what Tamworth and some Bundaberg will do to a person.

I',m an old Tamworth bloke. I remember my mates and I would knock off from working all day on the farm and drive to Sydney, stir the city slickers up a bit then drive home and then go back to work the next day wondering why we were knackered. lol to be young again.
I was involved in the County Music awards back in 81-84 and I had the pleasure of knowing Ray Kernaghan, Slim Dusty, Slim Newton, John Minson , Shorty Ranger, Tex Morton, Buddy Williams, Smokey and Dot Dawson, Arthur and Berice Blanch, Brian Young and Stan Coster. I worked for the Northern Daily Leader at that time and performed at Cathy's Tavern in Somerton on Saturday nights. Great days and sadly so many have passed away. I might live to see Christmas 2022 myself if the cancer doesn't take me first.

I've lived in far away parts of the world, like voluntarily. And every year got more homesick, without knowing what it was wrong, really. One of the things I didn't know was - I missed the sound of Australian music. When I finally made it back home, and heard Slim Dusty and Lee Kernaghan again - Oh my gosh, I'm home again, thank God!

I really like this song. I know it's an old classic, but not being from Australia and only being 30, this is the first time I've heard it. Lyrical content is obviously 100% Aussie with lines like "cullin' our roos", but what an interesting accent for a country song. It feels almost exactly between Australia and Tennessee, and it sounds surprisingly natural as a fusion. I wish Keith Urban would sing like that instead of neutering the Australian identity completely.
The sad part is i know the song word for word at 15 lol
I saw Lee's dad Ray run his jet powered truck 'Waltzing Matilda' down the runway at Albury airport when I was a kid. Fastest truck in the world at that stage. Ray was a C&W star at that time.
