I think the heaviest smallmouth I've had in WI was ~2.5 lbs, largemouth was 4-4.5lbs. Nothing very big, but very fun. Over 30 years waiting for something bigger.
@@ancientfishing alright, but i got a spot where an 8 pounder lives, go on the trail until you get to the pipe, use topwater, if you are lucky, it might just hit it. (its on beckman lake, thats where most pike and bass are too)

Nice fishing. Is that a public pier I have never fished there. All my catfish this year have been downtown usually at James Madison I was catching them over twenty pounds but now I only get usually one around fourteen pounds either on shrimp or cutbait bluegill if I have time to catch some.
Are shrimp better than cutbait bluegill on Mendota in your opinion? I have been using cutbait bluegill a lot and have had lots of success at the warner park boat launch.
@@elwoodzion so far this summer I haven't really noticed a difference. It's cheaper for me to buy a bag of shrimp and split it up than to spend time walking to Lake Monona and catching a few bluegill and using them for bait I have tried a zillion times using cut up gills on Lake Monona and have never caught a catfish. I have heard of others catching them but I think that they think that bullheads are channel cats. I have been so tempted to dump catfish into the river between Mendota and Monona over the last twenty years but I don't do it. I always wondered what would have happened over the last twenty years if I had done that? Has anyone ever caught any channel cats in Monona?
@@earflapjetpackfpv I saw a guy at a bus stop last Friday with a big rod and catfish paste. He said he was fishing there. I guess at the end of the river flowing between Mendota and Monona the river didn't used to be in a straight line like it is now.... Anyways where the river used to enter Lake Monona there is a deep hole that you have to fish out of a boat. I have been told that is maybe the place for catfishing Monona at certain times of the year.
Awesome fishing 🎣🎣🎣💯
I love your videos. Some nice catches there! Cheers from Beloit.

You gotta do some catch, clean, cook videos!
I have a golden bass lake in southern WI, Cadiz springs, in Browntown, WI. Make sure to use frogs.
I have a video in Cadiz from years ago. There are monsters in there. Haven’t caught one though.

@@ancientfishing also you caught a little bass, i just watched the video there.
Never heard of a sheephead being called a sadfish although they do have that look of uncertainty! 😢
@@rivercatch8216 they look sad when you catch them.
If you fish the county park on Castle Rock Reservoir you are guaranteed a sheepshead every cast if you use nightcrawlers

Have you had any success at Maple Bluff during the day in any season?
Never tried.

Yeah, it’s more of a swimming pier but it’s a public park.
