They definitely are true mouse click triggers yes, it isn't just that they are 1.5mm. I'd say the Scuf Reflex's triggers maybe feel very very very slightly shorter so maybe like 1.25mm, but they are both mouse click absolutely.
@SixtyFourBlades Yeahh it's definitely pricier post-Kickstarter, can't disagree there. I think the justification for that price now is that "you don't have the risk of needing to buy again cos of drift", but even then, it's a lot to drop at once on a controller for sure.

Question what's the life span of a single charge on this thing? I didn't hear you mention anything about it and I know the one on the dual edge is trash.
@Spike9819 I should have definitely touched on this if I didn't, oops! 😅 I believe it uses the same battery as a regular dualsense, and from my experience, it lasts about the same amount of time on 1 charge as a regular PS5 controller would. Absolute worse case for me is it's maybe about 30 minutes less due to the extra features and buttons the regular controller has. However, if you go for the hall effect joysticks, battery life might take about an additional 30 minute hit due to how they work. That's more an educated guess if anything though as I have the regular sticks on mine. Regardless, it lasts a good bit longer than the Edge. The issue with the edge is that it's not only got the additional hardware, but to fit it in, they physically shrunk the battery and thus it has a lower capacity. Here, it should still be using the normal dualsense battery. 👍 Thanks for watching 😊

@NEKOMAI-MIA Are you sure they are adaptive triggers it switches to? So the ones that have a full resistance effect and motor in them? Not just full range analogue switches, there's a difference. From what I can tell online, they aren't adaptive triggers in the envision but just mouse click that can switch so standard. But yes fully agree, it's awesome to have that option there, even if not adaptive. Hate having to choose!
@@Motornationz I thought this was the case! I'm certain the Phantom is the only controller that actually does this. Thank you for watching and confirming 😊
For sure! The early version i was sent has certainly surpassed my expectations and as I said, it's my go-to controller now and am confident most others will feel the same. Thanks for watching!
@thekings_hand The pricing now it's launched is definitely a bit of a jump. In addition to those 2 extra buttons on the back, it's also got the mouse click triggers (which are still adaptive) and much more, which i all cover in the video. I also go into detail in the video about how it's immune to stick drift - there are 2 options you can go for. One ensures it never develops it at all, the other allows you to immediately fix it for free in the event that it does so it's never an issue. So whilst it is more pricy, at least you are guaranteed it will last and you won't have to buy another one or more sticks.
Outstanding review, congrats! I currently own a DualSense Edge and have bought countless stick modules in recent months that started to drift within 1.5 months. I bought a Nacon Revolution 5 Pro just yesterday with Hall Effect sensors but had a really bad experience: the sticks drift quite a lot right out of the box, and these Hall sensors are nowhere near as precise as standard sticks to me. Has anyone tested the HEX Hall Effect controller? How does it compare with standard sticks regarding precision and feedback? Looks like not a single creator received the Hall Effect version... Little corcening tbh, but I'm quite tempted to get one asap.
according to the kickstarter, phantoms with HE sticks will ship two weeks later than the regular versions, the latter of which will be going out end of aug 2024. it was also only recently that HE became a pre-order option for this controller, probably after all of these review units were sent to content creators. it's probably best to wait a month or so for now if you want a verdict on the HE variation.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you thought so! I'm really sorry to hear about your drift experience with the edge, that sucks. I haven't got my hands on the hall effect version of the Phantom unfortunately as they were still perfecting the tech when they sent me my review unit in June (yes I did say June; they wanted to ensure I'd used it thoroughly before reviewing haha which I love). Dont think they bad any hall effect controllers ready until late July, early August. HOWEVER, from speaking with Hex and knowing about the tech in general, the precision and feedback should feel excellent, and even if you don't think so from the off, then they include all the tools needed to calibrate them to get them feeling PERFECT. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting to try it. I know Hex wouldn't ship it if it didn't feel perfect too. Hope my opinion helps aha and thanks again for watching 😊
@expcake Yeah, unfortunately Hex were hard at work on the calibration kit/tool for the hall effect controller and didn't get it perfected until quite a bit after my review. It's great to see that they have now though and deem it ready for market, I can't wait to try it 😊
As explained in the video, there are 2 options 1: 1. Regular potentiometers. Yes, these develop drift. The catch here though is the controller has a tool that is capable of reversing the effects of developed drift by countering it essentially. This will be effective at an extremely high degree; you won't ever, ever naturally develop drift that can't be resolved with this. 2. Hall effect sticks. Drift in 99.9999% of cases are caused by wearing mechanical parts in the potentiometer system. This completely eliminates that risk. However, yes, you are technically correct. Hall effect controllers could still see drift as a result of severe physical damage (only the kind that could be caused by some sort of impact, not regular play), or magnet misalignment. In the event it's magnet misalignment, they provide a tool that let's you recalibrate the system to counter this and ensure the stick is as responsive, accurate, and driftless as possible. TLDR; yeah, you aren't technically wrong, it *can* develop drift. BUT the point is that it won't ever, ever naturally develop drift that can't be resolved by yourself with ease for free. Thus, it's rendered a non-issue and you are "immune" to having to buy a new controller or sticks as a result of drift. Apologies if you didn't feel this was clear enough in the video. I wanted to cover the point that most consumers need to know, which is that drift won't ever be a problem with this controller, rather than getting into the technicalities for too long for the 0.0000001% that would listen 😅
I get it can add up to quite a bit with all the options but discount codes can help as well :) Tbh, I personally also see it as having that extra value knowing that drift won't be a problem ever, so in a few years, it won't be worthless and will still be good as new. 100% still get pro controllers like this are pricy though! Regardless, hope you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching. 😊💙
@Tiller2G I have the scuf too and the Scuf does not have the same trigger system. With the Scuf, you get to choose between an adaptive trigger system OR the mouse click trigger system - you can't have both. The Hex controller let's you switch between both easily, so you don't have to lose adaptive triggers if you want mouse click.
@@Octorious oh the ps5 one doesn’t switch that’s crazy I got the xbox scuf and I can switch thru both types of triggers. Does the hex gaming controller come in Xbox version?
@Tiller2G Let me further clarify, the Xbox controller doesn't have it either. The PS5 controller has a special type of trigger on every controller, labelled as "Adaptive triggers". It enables developers to be able to add physical resistance to the trigger system to simulate different feelings, or even introduce completely new gameplay mechanics. They are great for this and immersion when used well - the Xbox controller does not have this. The Scuf allows you to switch between digital triggers, and regular triggers like you have on an Xbox controller. So you fully lose the adaptive trigger system in the controller with a scuf. The HEX on the otherhand, allows you to switch between digital triggers, and the PS5's proper adaptive triggers so you get the choice between both systems without missing out on anything in any games. Parts of Astro's Playroom are unplayable with regular triggers pretty much for example, and it's great to have them for feeling the tension in the web in Spider-Man etc. And yes, they do Xbox controllers as well, but not specifically the Phantom model. 😊
Why does no reviewer of this controller hold it up to the camera and show me wether I can cover all 4 buttons simultaneously with 4 fingers like I can on the elite series 2 or not ?
@@randomgamer19170 Please watch the full video 😅 I show this thoroughly exactly as you have described and speak about how well placed they are for this reason
Thanks for show this, I’ve looked through so many reviews on TH-cam in the last 24hrs on this controller that I’m scanning through videos and missing stuff. The bottom buttons appear to me to be a bit high and you look like you have to hike your holding position up higher than normal to cover all 4 especially the bottom 2 . I’m so close to pulling the trigger on the kickstarter before it ends today so I can get one but the only thing holding me up is whether the back buttons will be comfy or not 🥵
@randomgamer19170 No problem! I always try to make a review whilst thinking about being the viewer which helps make sure I cover all the things I'd personally find important. As I said here, I do truly think they are perfectly placed, at least for me. I don't feel as though my fingers are in different positions to normal, though because of that, when you first use the controller I did click them accidentally quite a lot because they are where I'm used to sort of holding down. After an hour or so that went away though which is why I didn't think it was worth mentioning in the video itself and cut it whilst editing. If they look like my fingers are in a slightly different position, it may be because the controller itself isn't in the exact same part of the frame perhaps 🤔 They do feel very very similar What I can say for 100% certainty, is out of all 4-button pro controllers for PS5, this is easily the most comfortable configuration and it's not even a competition.
@randomgamer19170 I have! I'd say they take the number 2 spot to me and I do prefer the paddles over mouse-click buttons for back buttons , but fully regarding placement, they are higher than where my fingers naturally rest, not by much, but they are. I've then tried all other HEX controllers, all extremerate attachments, both edge configurations, the scuf, AIM's controller and I believe that to be all the ones I've currently used for PS5. It's different for everyone of course though as grip, finger length and general hand size are all variables that'll change between people. 😊 So whilst I find the Phantom to have slightly better placement, you might not. Though I should say in that last reply, I was only considering stock pro controllers and not attachments. That one is definitely good competition for the back buttons tbf.
What funny is the way you think you hold the controller and the way you a actually look when you use it are to different things, test it out hold the controller how you think then play the game and look down it’s completely different
Well yeah, I was given a product of value for free in return for a review, so legally that box gets checked 😅 I never agree to review anything though unless I get complete creative freedom and Hex wanted me to be honest and stuff here. I've denied several products before when they've asked to review the script and make changes to things I say etc before which most people won't care about. I know there's no proof I'm being truthful here but I hope you can trust me. My priority is creating content that's useful to the viewer, rather than useful to brands. 👍😊
Yeaaah it ain't cheap but no well-made pro controller is unfortunately :( Discount codes can help as well :) Tbh, I personally also see it as having that extra value knowing that drift won't be a problem ever, so in a few years, it won't be worthless and will still be good as new. 100% still get pro controllers like this are pricy though! @@mjesticbeats7097 Fair enough! I still use my edge for some games, but for double the back buttons, fully digital triggers without also losing adaptive triggers & the fsct that it won't ever get drift so I won't have to buy new sticks or controller, make it worth the little extra to me. Thanks for watching 😊
Is it better though? The edge is my 2nd favourite PS5 controller still, with build quality being a big factor. However, it's easy to pick the Hex over it thanks to the 4 back paddles instead of 2, and also the clicky triggers which the edge doesn't have at all. Plus, whilst it hasn't been an issue for me yet, the edge can develop drift. Whilst it's cheaper initially, it won't be overtime if you have to buy extra stick modules (which are also always out of stock 😅😭). Definitely a steap entry price on the Hex, but I pick it up substantially more than my Edge now.
@@Octorious Every controller can develop drift, at least the edge can be repaired by the customer. Edit: after posting I read about the new tech preventing drift on the more expensive model of this controller.
Not only that, but on the base model, customers can fix drift for free if it does develop. I show how that system works in the video. Essentially, whichever version you go with, drift is never going to be a problem with the Hex which I think is a major selling point.
The people not liking a controller that will last you many years and won't stick drift just because it's expensive, obviously didn't do well in school.
@n64slayer whaaaa how? I have to disagree with you there! Do you just not like the thumbstick arrangement? I'm curious as to your actual reasoning Literally everything else about this is significantly ahead of any regular switch or Xbox controller, even ignoring personal preferences 😅
@@Octorious I mean it is trash but that's not the reason, third party manufacturers just make better controllers for dirt cheap something playstion controllers will never have
@n64slayer The only ones of these I've ever had experience with are ones from places like AliExpress which have always arrived with very poor build quality, many completely lacking back paddles. Not to mention lack of haptics, adaptive triggers etc. The ONLY thing I've ever actually found decent with one of them, which was still nothing like they claimed, was a better polling rate and thus latency. If you want cheap playstation controllers, you can get extremerate's mod kits which are easy, and for less than $40 you could get back paddles, and clicky buttons, you just have to do it yourself which is quite simple for the most part.

@@Octorious The Envision Pro doesn’t have the haptic triggers. Just goes from super short mouse clicks to regular triggers.
@@Motornationz I thought this was the case! I'm certain the Phantom is the only controller that actually does this.
Thank you for watching and confirming 😊
Great video bro, what a controller boys all in on this one
Thank you! 😊 And yeah I'm definitely still impressed by it :)
I’ve checked it out, and from everything I’ve read, it looks like the best alternative to the PS5 DualSense controller. Pretty promising, right?
For sure! The early version i was sent has certainly surpassed my expectations and as I said, it's my go-to controller now and am confident most others will feel the same. Thanks for watching!
How is it immune to stick drift? And this is more then the PS Edge!!! For two more buttons...
A really intriguing controller, you got me sold 😍
@@Cinogard Glad you like the look of it! I really am impressed by it. Thanks for watching! 😊
@@giovannivincenti8400 can’t even find any modules near me smh 🤦🏾♂️
according to the kickstarter, phantoms with HE sticks will ship two weeks later than the regular versions, the latter of which will be going out end of aug 2024. it was also only recently that HE became a pre-order option for this controller, probably after all of these review units were sent to content creators. it's probably best to wait a month or so for now if you want a verdict on the HE variation.
It's great to see that they have now though and deem it ready for market, I can't wait to try it 😊
Does it have haptic functions like the dualsense?
Yes of course 😊 And they feel great! :D
Great review! That controller looks amazing
Thanks so much, and yeah I love it! 😊
Can you program the sticks to back buttons L3 R3
I’m sold in the clear version, reminds me of the ps2 and n64
@Greyman2046 yeah I do love the look of it! Transparent tech needs to make a proper comeback.
Thanks for watching 😊
Bruh mine got stick drift in 3 weeks and the tool didn’t work I’m gonna stick to the edge
BS
por ahi dicen q es muy bueno preciso para fps, es cierto?
Great for pro gamers but im just a casual gamer so not for me for the price.. oh what about battery life?
the stickdrift part is just absolutely wrong. It can develop stick drift although its more durable than the potentiometers
As explained in the video, there are 2 options 1:
The way it looks dont bother me its just a tool
I think all the colour options look great tbh, just not fully sold on the grey used for the grip on the white, that's all. 😊 Thanks for watching!
@@Octorious The Grey version is dope!
Will it turn on the PS5?
Looks like a really good controller awesome video
Thank you! Glad you like it :D
At $250. No way. Not even if it makes me a hot pocket.
Have fun dealing with stick drift.
You sound broke.
@@Boltbacker83 haha sure guy, sure
Hot burning hole in pocket
Bro forgot the scuf exists when he was talkin about the mouse click triggers lol
@@Octorious oh I see thanks for the clarification man. I’m gunna have to check out the Xbox controllers from hex
Will this be compatible with pc ?
@@RyanSmith-do7zr Yes! It works super well with PC 😊
No stick drift??
If they look like my fingers are in a slightly different position, it may be because the controller itself isn't in the exact same part of the frame perhaps 🤔 They do feel very very similar
What I can say for 100% certainty, is out of all 4-button pro controllers for PS5, this is easily the most comfortable configuration and it's not even a competition.
I doubt you’ve tried the Beloader Besavior 4 back button dualsense then
@randomgamer19170 I have!
That one is definitely good competition for the back buttons tbf.
i think i wil get HEXGAMING PHANTOM xcontroller
I hope you like it if you do! :D
@@Octorious they still dosent ship it to europe ...
@naapsuvaimne740 It's coming! Should be within the next month I believe.

I mean it’s a paid ad…
Well yeah, I was given a product of value for free in return for a review, so legally that box gets checked 😅
I never agree to review anything though unless I get complete creative freedom and Hex wanted me to be honest and stuff here. I've denied several products before when they've asked to review the script and make changes to things I say etc before which most people won't care about. I know there's no proof I'm being truthful here but I hope you can trust me.
My priority is creating content that's useful to the viewer, rather than useful to brands. 👍😊
WAAAYYY TOO EXPENSIVE!!
Yeaaah it ain't cheap but no well-made pro controller is unfortunately :( Discount codes can help as well :) Tbh, I personally also see it as having that extra value knowing that drift won't be a problem ever, so in a few years, it won't be worthless and will still be good as new.

Great price????? Best value???? Its 229$ man, the edge is cheaper than that and its an original, I'll pass
Gyro?!?!
It makes no sense to me, in this space there is already the edge controller which is cheaper and better.

Literally everything else about this is significantly ahead of any regular switch or Xbox controller, even ignoring personal preferences 😅
