It's perfectly fine to ride with a completely sideways stance, you're foot doesn't have to angle at all if you don't want it to. An expert rider will not have a single static stance that always remains the same, he will have a dynamic stance that changes and pivots depending on what he's wanting to do or the feel he wants. When I ride sometimes I have my foot angled, but sometimes I'm complete sideways. Sometimes my feet are wide apart, and sometimes they are close together. When you're completely sideways the feel of carving is completely different and very enjoyable. You can do different things and expand your style quiver. A good rider can do all kinds of variations with his stance and shift his weight accordingly. My recommendation would be for people to practice riding with an angled front foot, but also with a sideways front foot stance and to actually practice rotating your front foot between the two stances while riding and carving. Then practice changing your rear foot angle mid turns, etc. Then work on going up on your toes and the ball of your rear foot and laying down your rear knee, and other fun stuff. There's so much you can do with your stance. Don't be a static rider!

Very clear pointers: start on grass, think about weight shifts from front to back foot and bend knees etc. I could not see the weight shifts until explained
Thanks so much! It's the Mako board, we've been developing it over the past year and is available to buy in Bali now :) You can check them out here if you're interested: makosurfskate.com/surfskates/

Thanks for your comment :) Wiggling can be the easiest way to start moving on the Surfskate but it’s not functional for surfing. You can’t generate speed on a surfboard by wiggling so if you do that on the skateboard, you can actually create a bad habit which can then be tricky to overcome. Also you can generate even more speed on the surfskate by avoiding wiggling and using the right technique… so we would definitely recommend trying to avoid the wiggle as much as possible!

So it's mostly like riding a motorcycle.
"mostly" might be a bit too much - but a little bit!
Misstake #1. Buying a surf skate.
why is that? i would say Mistake #1 is not buying a surfskate sooner!
