Is the keypad supported in Home Assistant? It would be really nice if you could trigger automations if you enter a certain code when entering the house.
I've had one of these locks for about 3 weeks now. One useful hack for multipoint locks is to add a magnet to one of the multipoint latches and then place a window sensor (may need to remove the housing) in such a way, that when you lift the handle, the reed switch is "on". This allows you to create an automation to lock the door whenever the handle is lifted (I use HA). Works really well.
Just a word of warning to check the Ts&Cs on your home insurance policy when fitting a smart lock. Some companies (eg Aviva in the UK) want to be notified when any changes are made to the door locking mechanism.
Integration with home assistant needs some work, shame that the hub is required for matter functionality. Also no offline matter is crazy, hope its just a bug
Have 3 of the original locks integrated via bluetooth proxies. Have been working extremely reliably (and responsive once I installed a proxy with antenna close by) for more than a year. Only feature missing is the the emergency unlock feature, which is only available via the switchbot app. The main benefit og the lock pro in my opinion is the design and AA batteries. Not enough for me to upgrade, at least not until it gets Home Assistant bluetooth support.
I tried a Nuki ultion lock a few months ago. Had to return it. I think the torque wasnt enough to turn the lock. I hope this one has the extra torque. However, it doesnt list ultion as a compatible lock type. I’ve contacted switchbot to see if it’ll work
can i opened the fire from distance without the hub just using the app? i have installed everything but i don’t use matter: do i still need the hub connected ?
In Spain we have tripple bolted security doors with no handle. The door can only be opened with a rather large key which needs 6 full rotations to lock or unlock, plus another quarter turn to actually physically open (click out from) the door frame. Another thing is that if the key is left in the keyhole on one side, it blocks another key from being used from the other side. Thus not only should the Switchbot rotate the knob/key up to 6 times, but it should also have a straight line movement to pull the key half way out of the keyhole when not in use, and wise versa. Does a lock device exist that can do all this?
Hi - how since you used the double tape to install the lock, how did you manage to retain the lock cover (escutcheon) on the outside? Since you unscrew the section on the inside, doesn’t the outside lock cover come off? I spent 2 hours trying to screw in the installation plate but the screw placement did not match my lock and I could not do it…
Hi, if by chance the keyboard doesn't work, don't open it via the app again. What is the contingency plan? normally the cylinder does not open when both keys are plugged in (internal and external);
I have the previous one, it works but... Jams every now and then - requiring to be re-calibrated, gets "unavailable" on bluetooth and matter under HA (a bit less under matter but still) so during that state you cannot control it. I hope the Pro version has those problems solved. Seems to be a good product with under-developed software.
Can the switchbot lock pro be installed in any position, I mean upside down if necessary? I see some installation has the bolt or the part you turn in the upper part and some in the lower part, so it seem they just turn it but in their page they have two version the uk and the US and they show each of them like if the only difference is that the turn it vs the other or not sure if there is a real difference between the 2 version. I will appreciate any help
I bought the switchbot lock pro. It works very well, but the magnetic door position pod does not really work for any locks more than a couple of inches from the door frame.
Great video and product review, would like an update when HA BLE is working. Out of interest what BLE reliability issues did you see with the previous model with HA?
Same here, seen lots of people mention this lock but I'm holding off until home assistant is available especially after hearing what little info you get via matter
A couple of times it would take multiple presses to work but the worst thing was the very slow response time on occasion. Mostly it was like 3-4s but occasionally you'd get a 10-15s one making you think it hadn't worked and pressing it again causing a double trigger
@@EverythingSmartHomeI found that setting up a little Atom Echo about 3m away as a BT proxy fixed those issues right up (my HA is upstairs so while the BT would reach it, I used to often see those 10 second plus delays)
What is the IP rating of them ?.. I have a garage door that I wish to lock.. BUT at an open state the inside may get open in the Rain for some houres..
I got the old one. Bunch of problems. Some kind of fails all the time. Jammed notifications when it fails to open the door. I changed my whole lock system for this because the engine is not strong enough to turn and old lock system and it opens very slow. So far I think YALE has the best system and it doesn't even need a hub system. It comes with it in the device so directly wifi connection. And such a strong engine it has , opens the door very quickly. So my advice is YALE as a switchbot owner.
Can i open it with a key normally when coming home? Kan i make an automation to auto open when i come home in case im carrying groceries and dont want to pick up keys. Can i make temporary keys or anything if my parents need to enter and im on vacation? So many questions unanswered 😁
Great review. I have one big issue with this smart lock, and that is the huge button which you said is neat to have when carrying stuff. This is sold as a Pro lock but does not offer Geofencing to disable the button when not at home, as otherwise when someone approaches the door, excited pets jumping up can open the door by jumping against the button. Also on your door it will be easy to open from outside using a hook shaped rod through the letter box. People will only know this is an option if using the keypad as this identifies its a Switchbot lock from the outside. As Geofencing is not offered it would be great to be able to at least disable this button on a routine when at work for example to ensure it does not get opened when no one is at home. Looking forward to seeing the Aqara lock which is due to release soon.
It's a good point about there being no geofencing, at least within the switchbot app. You can however completely disable the button which mitigated your concern there, just means you can't use it in a situation where your carrying things
I'm curious about the size. On the thumbnail for this video it's right under the door handle, and looks like it would get in the way. Is that a photo you took or is it from the web? Asking as I'm worried I'd have the same issue.
The best informatieve video so far! Great job - love your channel! Only thing I missed is if you need the new hub for matter integration for home assistant or will the original switchbot hub do?
My issue with Switchbot is and always has been communication. They work when they want to, they connect when they want to and they respond to commands when they want to. I should make a video comparing my office window which has an Aqara blind and Switchbot curtain 3. The difference in response time and reliability is night and day.

The rest of my switchbot kit works just fine using the Switchbot BLE integration and a few ESP32s being Bluetooth Proxies. I will likely just end up buying another August. :/
Aqara's M3 hub seems to have the same issue. Disconnect the internet and all the devices that are on the M3 seems to be unreachable. Anyway, this looks like it doesn't work with my lock. :(
I think it's only just became available on the US site so might take a few days to appear on the UK site, as soon as I can I'll get it added! But my contact at Switchbot confirmed the UK price so shouldn't be long

Especially considering the hub is nearly the same price as the lock and when you only have one switch it device it makes it prohibitive
Great video. I think I'm going to wait until Bluetooth is supported by HA. Do you know if use of the keypad requires the hub? Or if it pairs directly to the lock itself?

It is a battery powered device, so really only Zigbee and BT are viable. Honestly, with ESPHome Bluetooth Proxies working as well as it is, why do you not want Bluetooth?
Besides the magnet not working reliably this lock has a ton of issues not mentioned here! 1. It only registers opened/closed state ar the outmost point of calibration. Thats utter rubbish if you use the knob or key or have night switch which can be also opened via handle. So basically if i ever use it manually it doesn't notice. This knob is so slow i only use it manually, but then usually i just turn it until its open and use handle for the night switch as its fastest that way. Door doesn't notice. Also as the door never knows its correct state the auto lock/relock isn't working.. so you end up turning manually to close the lock and as it doesn't notice it shows open until it cranks up torque to relock from locked. 2. As soon as there is the slightest distraction like hub offline the auto lock/relock just doesn't happen. 3. The software integration with home assistant is a joke if used with night switch at least right now. And as long as 1. Isn't fixed nothing good can come out of it. Back in the box and getting a Nuki. This piece of shit simply isn't worth it. The hardware except the magnet thing is really good but the software is utter rubbish and why use a smart lock without geofencing? Buy cheap buy twice clearly the case if your door has night switch.
I think SwitchBot's main issue is Bluetooth and lack of integration... The devices I have of theirs do not work well with Home Assistant or Alexa, and I will not buy more until they sort this
They've completely stuffed the design, to be generic. Who wants a big shoebox on the swinging edge of their door? It's bot super-premium. For latches like yours it could have easily been a much lower profile. Sprocket on your shaft, worm drive to the side, tiny motor to drive it and another to drive cluch engagement. Hall effect sensor to keep state of the sprocket (which can be directly driven by hand or key). 18650 or 1S LiPo. LEDs for status. Small Esp board to drive. Saw something similar on here a while back.
thanks for the video, but I'm clearly not convinced, 1) the fixing with the double-sided tape, amateur hack ... 2) the battery system is hack ... (have to remove them to recharge them ...) 3) the price of the lock + have to add batteries, add a hub (should be included) I hesitated to buy but there, I had all the arguments not to take the step ...
In my opinion that would be a downgrade as you'd have to run a cable to the lock itself, and you wouldn't be able to keep using it while recharging (as the whole unit would die), where just now you can keep using the lock on one battery while recharging one in a more convenient location
@EverythingSmartHome let me introduce you to smart plugs. Bought Shelly TRVs specifically for that reason. Got a smart plug and a cable running to it, delivering power whenever it needs it. For me, it's not a downgrade but an upgrade. I'd run a cable to the door and have it constantly plugged into a wall. With BT, I can monitor the charge and can keep it at a comfortable 40%-80% once and for all. Cable can be fitted nicely on the door itself with little to no obstructions. With a tiny design difference, the engineers could've integrated USB-C charging into the battery pack and the unit as well (plugging the batteries into a male USB-C port hidden inside the unit, for example). I just don't like the idea of yet another battery-powered device that needs changing during the most inconvenient times. I'd rather just set it up and forget it with the minor inconvenience of running a cable once instead of having to change batteries or charge them all the time. :/
I am category against smart locks with two exception. 1) They are mechanically designed to only lock NOT to unlock. 2) I retain the ability to lock or unlock without interacting with the smart mechanism something very close to it. I am fine with smart lock locking my door if I forgot too but NEVER unlocking it or interfering with me unlocking form inside in and instant.
How does anyone talk about a lock without talking about the security of it? Often the security of these smart locks are abysmal. Please consider this in your threat model prior to buying this.
@@EverythingSmartHome Whilst you did mention security may be a concern, I can see why soneone would consider the video to not talk about security by lack of disvussion on security protocols.
Dear friend, I have the switchbot lock with the first-generation hub. I consider replacing the hub to the second generation Hub2 for adding my switchbot lock support to the apple home support. Also, I interested buying Aqara G4 Doorbell (which is also support the Apple home) My question is if I can combine both products to work together ??? I mean, the moment someone rings the Aqara G4 Doorbell, I will be able to get notification from the apple home app, watch the G4 camera & on the same Apple screen app to open the switchbot lock for opening the door ? I watched the Aqara promotional video and saw that there is an option on both Aqara products (Aqara lock u200 & Aqara G4 Doorbell). Here's the Aqara promotional video, at the 16-second mark th-cam.com/video/lWadY9hohJA/w-d-xo.html I'll be glad if know what you think about my idea Shlomi
Don't buy, the locks get out of calibration and jam. For me, the first time after 3 months. Now the lock is constantly jammed and every second use it has to be recalibrated. Support responds once a week, and the refund granted is just a constant promise that they will do it and then that they are checking what is going on with it and so on forever. If you get a copy from the 30-day return, you may have a problem adding the lock to your account.
A thief will just break the windows or pry open the door with pry bar A thief that have enough knowledge to hack your lock would probaply hack something more lucrative then hacking random normal people homes lol
no one is saying this is an 'anti thief' device.. it's a convenience one and automation one Mine auto locks my door everynight "in case I forgot" and also I don't need to fumble for keys when I leave/get back home. As soon as my car is in the garage and my plate is read, it unlocks
It doesn't work well. I have to recalibrate it every 2 weeks or so... recalibrate,recalibrate,recalibrate,recalibrate,recalibrate...zzz The technical service is giving me the runaround...
Dont buy it, it's jaming very often.I had to recalibrate it 15 times in 2 months and if you dont have a key with you, you'll stay out of your home for a looong time 😂.The after sale service is very slow and offer no answer then software updates with no solution what so ever.Very disapointing
Forget it, low quality lock! After a few months it jams and needs constant recalibration...even several times a day. Pitiful and ridiculous assistance. They respond after a week, and to have a complete discussion to understand each other it takes 2 months and all the videos they pretend and that never work well for them even though they show the problem! It is a battery powered device, so really only Zigbee and BT are viable. Honestly, with ESPHome Bluetooth Proxies working as well as it is, why do you not want Bluetooth?
“My knob is kind of wierd”… 😂
🤣🤣🤣... knob... Funniest video I've seen on YT this week! 👌🏻
High praise indeed 😂 thanks!
ABsolutely brilliant cheered me up
I think SwitchBot's main issue is Bluetooth and lack of integration... The devices I have of theirs do not work well with Home Assistant or Alexa, and I will not buy more until they sort this
Thank you.
Thanks Ron!
Its remains too big and bulky. There needs to be a narrow version for thin aluminium door frames.
I'm here for the pun-zooms.
😂🙏🏻
They've completely stuffed the design, to be generic. Who wants a big shoebox on the swinging edge of their door? It's bot super-premium.
For latches like yours it could have easily been a much lower profile. Sprocket on your shaft, worm drive to the side, tiny motor to drive it and another to drive cluch engagement. Hall effect sensor to keep state of the sprocket (which can be directly driven by hand or key). 18650 or 1S LiPo. LEDs for status. Small Esp board to drive. Saw something similar on here a while back.
thanks for the video,
but I'm clearly not convinced,
1) the fixing with the double-sided tape, amateur hack ...
2) the battery system is hack ... (have to remove them to recharge them ...)
3) the price of the lock + have to add batteries, add a hub (should be included)
I hesitated to buy but there,
I had all the arguments not to take the step ...
thanks honest review
Thanks for watching!
I was hoping for more knob jokes, like in the original version. Or at least some bloopers at the end. Not enough jokes!😂
More subtle this time 😂
It even handles a sticky knob, nice. lol
So they've basically created a NUKI 2, about 5 years later...
My biggest issue is the fact that it's not rechargeable itself. Only the batteries :/
I really wish that switchbot wasn't so in love with Bluetooth. I would much rather have it use zigbee or WiFi.
How many times did you have to refilm parts to cut out all the giggles? I cracked up at your weird knob.
My insurance says nope to that type of locks.
I've not had any insurance ask that sort of question, normally they ask is it multi point and is it key or knob on the inside
No one likes having a sticky knob. 🤣
I've experienced it myself once, wouldn't wish it upon anyone 🥲😂
How does anyone talk about a lock without talking about the security of it? Often the security of these smart locks are abysmal. Please consider this in your threat model prior to buying this.
So, you didn't watch the video then?
@@EverythingSmartHome Whilst you did mention security may be a concern, I can see why soneone would consider the video to not talk about security by lack of disvussion on security protocols.
I’m not sure I’d be comfortable with removing my knob, just to have a smart lock.
😂
True
Sadly this is one product that won't work for EU locks, since they have a different design than the average deadbolt one in the USA
Here's the Aqara promotional video, at the 16-second mark th-cam.com/video/lWadY9hohJA/w-d-xo.html
I'll be glad if know what you think about my idea

Don't buy, the locks get out of calibration and jam. For me, the first time after 3 months. Now the lock is constantly jammed and every second use it has to be recalibrated. Support responds once a week, and the refund granted is just a constant promise that they will do it and then that they are checking what is going on with it and so on forever. If you get a copy from the 30-day return, you may have a problem adding the lock to your account.
How many times did you descend into childish giggling recording that?... I'm not sure I could have managed it 😁
Definitely a few giggles were had 😂
A thief will just break the windows or pry open the door with pry bar
A thief that have enough knowledge to hack your lock would probaply hack something more lucrative then hacking random normal people homes lol
I agree!
no one is saying this is an 'anti thief' device.. it's a convenience one and automation one
Mine auto locks my door everynight "in case I forgot" and also I don't need to fumble for keys when I leave/get back home. As soon as my car is in the garage and my plate is read, it unlocks
And the shaft 😂😂😂
I know this isn’t Paul Hibberts channel but no shaft and knob jokes in disappointed
Couldn't they have made it a little bigger?
The knob 😂😂😂
😂
It’s way to large compared to competitor products
FORGET IT, really!
Terrible. its huge and loud. And it still, in 2024!, needs gate to work with homekit.
