At the end of the Der Film, in order to beat Alice, Miho and Maho use the Nishizumi style of advancing at all cost, in perfect order, and win. The scene where Maho hesitates to shoot the back of the Anglerfish is Maho fearing that if she pushes Miho to advance in the Nishizumi way, her younger sister might get hurt again. But Miho confidently nods at her to continue, signalling that she accepts the Nishizumi style and is able to incorporate it, but still puts her own flair to it in the end -- such as using the blank and letting herself be the sacrifice instead of anyone else. Love how its vaguely foreshadowed in dialogue that the match would be a showdown of Nishizumi style vs Shimada style. You are right about this show truly being better because of its refusal to have a "You were right, I was wrong" approach. I'd love to see you tackle the Nishizumi family dynamic more, such as what Shiho might be thinking or how Miho lacked the confidence to do what Hana did by expressing herself in words to her mother...how that created a distance that only allows them to communicate their feelings through actions (saving the Rabbits), proxies (having Maho fight Miho), and distant support (Miho's gift and Shiho's "there is no luck" line).
Honestly, I agree completely with your assessment on the Final Duel in Der Film, especially Maho's worry and Miho's confident nod. The whole match was in the end Nishizumi style vs. the Shimada style, and the subtle dialogue about that and how Shiho and Chiyo were sitting next to one another during the match was proof of it. The match was Nishizumi style vs. Shimada style, and the Nishizumi style won in the end thanks to the combined efforts and styles of both of the Nishizumi sisters. The way Der Film showed just what the match was, the final duel, and Miho's growth from fearing the Nishizumi style to embracing it and making it her own was truly one of the most beautiful and amazing aspects that makes Der Film so great. Girls und Panzer truly is an anime that knows how to write a great story without forcing everything upon us. It shows us what we see and let's us see what they subtly left for us. That's one of the many reasons why Girls und Panzer is that great.
GuP did such a good job with managing this conflict of interests. Tradition and Individuality don't have to be enemies just because they're on opposite ends. In fact, they can complement each other.
Who could've ever thought... that an anime where teenage girls are put into WW2 tanks has such depth... The next das Finale is coming out this year, really looking forward to it!
2:17, you know... when I first saw this scene, I thought, "Awesome! Hana made a tank-like vase, that's cute!" but a good while later (forgot how long later) someone told me, "Yea, but it's also an exploding tank", I had to look at the scene for a good minute before saying "Oh fuck, he's right" 💀
Your analysis is spot on. As an old grandpa "GuP" fan who has raised two boys and now has a bunch of grandkids to enjoy. I see (and also encourage) that same dichotomy too. Respect and honor the old traditional ways even when adding one's own flair to something. Once again, very well done.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! While Girls Und Panzer isn't specifically a kids show, there are a lot of really great themes for kids in it. The sportsmanship aspect is a big one. I don't have kids of my own yet, but when I do GuP will be required watching. (At least once they can read, since the subbed version is superior.)
Another beautiful analysis of just how amazing Girls und Panzer is. Thank you for this. Der Film really is Girls und Panzer at its best where we see the culmination of everything Miho has grown, done, and become up to that point. And during the movie, like you talked about, Miho tried to get everyone to go by the books with one plan and one unit, only to fail disastrously at the hands of the University team. But after being reminded that she shouldn't be someone she isn't and should do as she would, she understood how she should lead the team and let everyone do what they do best to fight and they eventually won thanks to that. Especially at the end where Miho sacrificed herself to defeat Alice in a very Nishizumi style fashion of always advancing no matter the cost. She took the traditions of her family and made it her own. That's why she succeeded in the first season against Kuromorimine and why the Ooarai Alliance succeeded here. And much like with Hana story where she blended her own family's traditions of flower arrangement, she combined it with Senshadou and produced something as a result. Her special panzer flower arrangement. Both stores really give perspective on how tradition should be viewed, at least to me. They are guides of how one should base who they are around, Miho became a legendary commander while Hana became a legendary gunner thanks to blending tradition with who they are as individuals. To me, traditions are chains in a way. They bind us, but also give us strength and a root to stand on. I'm very nontraditional in most of my life, but when it comes to things like holidays I'm very traditional because of the values they hold. Christmas and Thanksgiving aren't about the past to me. They're about what really matters to me. They're about family. And so I can relate to Miho and Hana more thanks to me blending my own values in tradition with who I am as a person. This isn't all that I relate with with the girls, but it's the one this video analysis is about. Tradition isn't forced, it isn't solid and rigid, it's malluable, it's what you make of it. And Girls und Panzer does a great job showing how both individuality and tradition can be mixed to form something beautiful, whether it be a magnificent flower arrangement or a glorious hard fought victory. And they did the right thing in not being disrespectful to trading as a whole. They never badmouthed it. All they did was show both sides with the mothers and daughters and the mothers coming to understand what their daughters have done, what they created for themselves, creating their own traditions. Thank you very much for taking the time to read all of this, I very much appreciate it. And I can't wait to watch your next analysis video on this beautiful and incredible anime. Until next time, Ascendant. Take care now.
Girls und panzer is quite possibly one of the best anime series ever despite having such a silly premise it has a very profound and well written story and handles family drama much better than Disney and Pixar

We said the same thing about learning important life lessons from movies about a Panda learning Kung-Fu. Looks can be deceiving.

Well she is a gunner, so making other tanks explode is right up her alley lol.
Oh fuck, you right

I am glad this popped up in my recommended.
Thank you for watching!
One other thing is that Maho is the elder sister and presumably the heir. She's under a lot more pressure to conform and carry on the tradition.
This actually what being Asian is, you can have career, education, be anything you want to be but never forget your roots.

Hana’s tank flower arrangement reminds me of videos of Russian tanks blowing up in Ukraine…💥
Nice, never thought of that
cant wait for the next film
underrated
SUPER NICE
I’m gonna be honest, despite everything that happened, Shiho…seemed to be overly strict on her kids. And that’s not healthy.
What other anime have this kind of balance?
